So quick update before I start this story: I got a new job at a dealership. Okay now story time!

So I get emails from customers asking for appointments on certain days. Well, it's nearing winter up here so we're pretty busy. So busy that we're booked up for the next two weeks. So this woman asks for an appointment next Monday.

I email them with this: We are fully booked up that day and our next available appointment isn't until November 5th at 9:00 a.m.

The reply: do you have anything next Monday?

...

No? I just said it won't be until November 5th. I don't...I just...okay. let me just repeat what I just sent you.

I quit

So I quiet my job as a cashier. Thank Christ. The amount of stupid I have to put up with in one shift is insane. Even on my last day there, I had a bitchy customer complain to my supervisor because I had started putting her things through when she wanted to watch me scan every item so she can see the price.

I absolutely hate people who do this. The receipt is there for a reason.

Anyways, so she complained to me about not listening to her (I never heard her say she wanted me to wait in the first place) and then she demanded I go back through the entire order so she can watch. When she asked what was priced at $10, I said it was probably her coffee because that would have been the most expensive item. (Shouldn't you already know since you insisted on double checking the prices in the first place??) So she doesn't like this answer and tells me she's going up to customer service to complain. Alright, have a nice day. Its my last shift so I don't care.

Retail is literally the worst job anyone could get. Sadly, people don't have many choices when starting out.

Had a lady claim that next time she came into the store, she was going to flash her tits to the cashier to prove her age. I asked her for her ID because she wanted to buy booze

An over reaction, I'd say

So I was up at Customer Service when I over heard my supervisor talking to a customer. She was saying that our new ATM machine wasn't allowing her to do a deposit (backstory: we got a new bank for our store card so we had to switch over the ATM and the card). So my supervisor told her that she'd have to actually go to the bank to deposit money instead of coming here. So she says "well I'm glad you told me that!" And then proceeded to crumple (I repeat CRUMPLE) her bank card up and threw it at the floor before storming off.

Lady, it isn't that big of a deal to go to the bank instead of coming to a freaking ATM. Calm the shit down.

Uncaring bosses are the worst

So my friend is at the hospital right now because her throat was closing up and she couldn't breathe properly. They think it might be strep so she's just waiting for results right now. She's already called in to work saying she won't be able to come in because of this and work just said "you're still coming in, we'll just put you on scan and go." I am so pissed off right now. Strep is so freaking contagious it isn't funny and we work in a retail store where children come in every single day and they're forcing her to come in. Its infuriating. And apperently they've done the same thing to another cashier who had strep.

A declined card is not the store's fault

So I had this older gentleman come through my till and tried to pay by credit card. The card was declined and when I told him this, he had this really annoyed look on his face. So I asked if he had another card he could try and he asks "why would it say it's declined". I shrugged and told him that we aren't told why, we just get a message saying declined. So he pays by cash and just as he's about to leave he says "someone is going to hear about this" in a really threatening voice like he was going to go to management about it. So I looked at him and told him if a card is declined, it's a problem with the bank. Not the store.

I'm actually amazed at how many people are quick to blame the store/cashier because their card was declined.

Fishy ad replies

LOL okay so I just had someone reply to an ad I posted about my old phone. The entire thing was a red flag. First she says she can't view the pictures because her app "keep hanging often" after telling me she looked over the ad and saw nothing wrong. Then she asked me to send her the pictures to her cell phone which had an out of COUNTRY area code. Then she finished it off with "I'm a very serious buyer and am ready to pay now".

Be safe kids. Check your facts before you agree.

Don't tell me how to do my job

So I had this one lady ask, in a really condescending tone, if I was trained to push the button that movies food down the belt. I had to look at her and get her to repeat herself because I couldn't believe what she was saying. Apperently she was made because I wasn't moving her items down fast enough and everything was "piling up". So I told her there was a button on the other end so she could bring them down too. Not only that but she put her bags right on the end of the belt so if I moved her items down even more, her bags would have fallen and I KNOW that she would have been just as upset if that happened. Like, fuck you lady. Don't tell me how to do my job.

When you just have to shake your head

Had a lady come up to customer service wanting to exchange a package of hot chocolate for 3 different ones. So I put then through and gave her the total. She calculates it in her head and says it's not right.

Her: I'm exchanging one for one and getting another one.

The price on the 3 she wanted was buy a limit of 2 for 2.98 and the third one was 4 something. So I guess she thought it would be a direct exchange or something even though the product was different. So I explained to her that the price of what she returned did come off but she still had to pay the full price of the third item she wanted. But she just would not accept this. Kept saying she didn't want to pay that because the returned item should just pay for one and she gets the other one at the same price. Well that just DOES NOT HAPPEN. EVER. So one of the other cashiers said just do it as the sale price. So I turn around and start putting it through and I shook my head because I just could not believe how difficult this customer was being. Well the customer noticed and just flipped her shit saying she didn't know how long I've been in customer service but that's not how you treat customers and she was glad I did it in front of others. I just looked her in the eye and told her the price and she left. Afterwards, the SUPERVISOR said it wasn't my fault, she was on the warpath and wanting to take it out on something.

That's the kind of support I need.

You work here, you know the rules.

So the place I work at has the thing on every week. You spend a certain amount in-store and you get a free item. HOWEVER you cannot get the free item if you use our points card and the amount you're paying goes under that certain amount. Everyone who works at this place knows that.

A few days ago one of the employees is going through the till ahead of me. At the end of her order she asks if she qualifies for the free item and then says she wants to use all her points. Well, the cashier informs her that if she does use her points, she can't get the free item.

Her: yeah I do. It counts as payment towards the item.

Me: *just so happened to here this* No it doesn't.

Her: yeah it does. I wouldn't lie to you about this. If you don't believe Me, call customer service.

So the cashier does that while I continue talking to the other employee.

Me: you've *never* been able to use points towards the free item. No one is allowed to do that.

Her: I swear I'm not lying about this.

Meanwhile the cashier gets off the phone.

Cashier: they said you can't get the free item if the points put you below the amount needed.

This employee looked so embarrassed and tried to blame it on the supervisor who was working that day. I guess she told her mom that they could do that and somehow thought she'd be able to lie her way through to actually getting it done (to a cashier who has been there for years. Way longer than this kid) when she knows that is not how things work. At all. In training, all cashiers are told points don't go towards the free item. End of story. I don't know why she thought it would work. Even if the cashier did take her points off, the people at customer service would have seen she didn't pay the full amount so they wouldn't have let her get away with it either. I just had to shake my head at this girl.

I love to argue with customers

Was working scan and go when this woman comes up. We have our own points system and when you start up scan and go, it asks if you have the plus card, the financial card, or a mobile version of the card. So the woman presses financial and then calls me over. I ask her what's wrong and she says she pressed the wrong button, she wanted the plus card.

Me: You're holding our Financial card though so you pressed the right one.

Her: No I have a plus card.

Me: *points to what our plus card looks like* this is the plus card. You have a financial card.

Her: No this is a plus card. See, it has plus on the back.

Me: it's still a financial card. You can't scan a financial card if you press the plus card button.

By this time the machine timed out so I had to clear it. So she starts it up again and presses the plus card button and then tried scanning her card on the scanner.

Me: Ma'am. You can't scan the financial card as a plus card. This is a *Financial Card*.

Her: but they told me it was a plus card. Why would they tell me its a plus card?

Me: I don't know why. But it's not.

Her: but it says plus on the back!

Me: that doesn't make it a plus card. The plus card is completely different from the Financial one.

Finally she accepted what I was saying and went on with her transaction. Jesus Christ lady I work here. I know the differences between cards.

It's the law!

Okay! So I still have people who are surprised we have to ask everyone for ID when they buy beer or wine at the store. Sure, okay. This is your first time doing it. But don't argue with me when I ask.

I had this guy today who did that. I asked for ID and he gave me this look like he was asking if I was stupid and then took his hat off to show he was balding. I told him that didn't matter, I still needed his ID. So he got all pissed off and said this was ridiculous. To which I replied it was the law. He said no it wasn't and I, not feeling good and really fed up with people who do this, said in a really "OMG you fucking idiot" kind of voice that yes it was. I'm so glad my superior didn't hear me even though she was right beside me. Anyways, he argues it isn't before walking away and then giving me this really dirty look as he's leaving.

Dude. We are not a friggen liqour store. Yes it IS THE LAW THAT I HAVE TO ASK YOU FOR ID. If you would calm the frick down and let me explain instead if just firing off as soon as I ask, maybe you'd learn something.

Crank calls

So I've been working customer service for a few months now but this is the first crank call I've had to deal with. I actually didn't think we got crank calls tbh since it's a grocery store.

Anyways, this guy phones saying his name is Gilbert and he's calling in sick for the next day. So I ask him what department he's in and he doesn't really give me an answer. So I say I need to know what department he's in so I can transfer to the right person and I list off front end as one of the departments. He quickly jumps on that saying he works in front end. Red flag goes up right away. So I say okay I need your last name. He gives it to me and I ask him to spell it. Goozib and then a few other letters I can't remember right now. While he's talking I can hear someone in the background feeding him this information. So I ask if he's really Gilbert because if he's not, then the real Gilbert has to call us. This guy says he is so I say I can hear someone telling him what to say in the background.

Him: oh that can't be right I'm home alone.

Me: really? Because I can hear a woman in the background telling you how to spell your own last name.

Him: that must be my dog or cat

Me: Mmhmm. Well, like I said, the real Gilbert has to call us and let us know he won't be in.

Him: I am Gilbert.

Me: Alright then. When do you work tomorrow?

Him: *mumbles something* till 4. *hangs up*

I stood there for a second looking at the phone then turned to my supervisor and said I don't know what just happened.

Had a woman scan our system twice in one day

This lady comes up to customer service saying her items came up the wrong price. So I said okay we'll refund the items and put the through the right price. She also wanted Scanning Code of Practice so whatever. Sure.

I refund the items and then put them through as the price the shelf said and then did a SCP on the fixed price. She comes back saying I didn't do the SCP on her items. And I told her yes I did, I put it through as the shelf price and then did the SCP on that price. Then she started going on about how that was wrong, she was supposed to get the price she paid for. So I told her I had refunded the items before I put them through at the fixed price so she got that money back. Well for some reason she refused to understand what I was saying. I had to repeat myself three times before she finally got it.

So some time passes and she goes through another till, buying some more items. Big surprise, she comes back up to customer service and says the prices are wrong, she wants the Scanning Code of Practice, yadda yadda. And AGAIN she refused to understand the fact that I REFUNDED HER ITEMS BEFORE FIXING THE PRICE. By the end I was practically yelling and ready to cry from frustration because I was so frustrated.
