Ang cute nitong Orashare mini fan. Last year holy week pa yata ako nag-own ng handheld fan. Nawala kasi in under a month noong holy week. In my mind, kung bibili ako ng panibago, mawawala lang din.
I hope hindi agad mawala ito. I bought this one because it’s tiny and lightweight. When I last travelled, nakahiram ako ng Jisulife from a friend. It was so heavy! Feeling ko I’ll hate lugging that thing around. It’s the same weight as my phone, and I hate holding my phone!
Anyway, I hope this fan stays with me for a long, long time. At least a year sana.

Slapped my brush around today while in a meeting. This helped a lot kasi I’ve been struggling through the day with a really bad headache.
Malatang 🍲 A Visual Guide
I love Malatang. Creamy with a numbing spice—sobrang addictive lang. 😣
Personally, my preferred brand is Sichu Malatang.
This year alone, 1-3 times yata ako nag-malatang per month. Lagi akong nagugulat kapag napapasobra ako ng kuha, so here’s a visual guide of my perfect bowl!
Type and Spice Level 🌶️
Usually, nagkecrave ako ng malatang kapag maulan. Fan din ako ng spice pero gusto ko pa rin ma-savor yung creaminess ng broth. So naturally, I choose malatang (soup) with spice level 2 almost every time.
Mushrooms 🍄🟫
To be honest, sobrang mushroom-forward ng perfect bowl ko.
I prefer getting mushroom na may bite and won’t get lost sa super daming broth na binibigay nila. Top victim nito ay enoki mushrooms. Masarap! Pero lugi ka kapag naghiwa-hiwalay or di mo na mahanap.
My top picks are:
Shiitake
Wood ear or white fungus
King oyster
Meats 🥩
I used to get really fatty meat for maximum flavor. However, fat turn into oils when cooked.
Now, I only grab 1-2 small fatty pieces to add flavor and go ham on the lean beef and pork para filling.
If it is a special day, I throw in a couple intestines or stomach. I just love the texture! 😋
Seafoods 🦑
Merong squid, mussels, scallops, and shrimps sa Sichu. I loved scallops when I added them once, but they are super hard to find in the broth! Maybe sa malapan or malaxiangguo?
I personally add squid lang to my malatang and I do so rarely. One big factor is that they’re cut quite big, so they are a hefty addition.
Vegetables 🥬
Personally, I like a mix of leafy and crunchy veggies, so I like adding lotus root and napa cabbage. Both of these are pretty bland and doesn't really change the flavor.
I also prefer cabbages over lettuces because older lettuce may have some mild bitterness.
Hotpot Balls and Tofu 🍥
Balls and tofu are pretty dense. The weight adds up so much! Kaya now, I stick to the ones I like and stopped experimenting after the first few times.
To not end up with a full kilo of balls, I add 1 each of things I moderately like and then 2 of the one thing that I love. My hotpot ball selection are:
Seafood bun ⭐
Crab claw
Fish roe roll
Golden Cheese ball
Also, I stopped getting big tofu altogether because tofu skin taste best with malatang anyway!
Noodles and rice
Sichu Malatang offers 1 bowl of free rice for each solo bowl when you dine in.
I also add knotted yams. Dip this in a peanut-based sauce and enjoy!
Sauce 🧄
I make two sauces: peanut-based for mushrooms, balls, and vegetables and sichu vinegar sauce for meats.
