Books are constantly rewritten to match the current ideology. Artifacts remain what they were on the day they were made, until the day they are destroyed.

Take a look at the history books in Russia and China. Or Canada. Or Turkey. Or, for that matter, America.

Every time you destroy a solid, undeniable piece of history, you make it that much easier for the government to deny the events which surrounded it.

Any real historian would know that.

Oh, you mean, like, you know… Books that have a LOAD OF pictures of architecture, sculptures, reproduction of paintings and so on? Books that, when they talk about specific parts of history when there weren’t any cameras yet, use artist’s rendition of what happen (including sculptures, might I add) to illustrate it to students? Books that, when talking about specific royal, warrior, any other historically important person, used their portrait/sculpture (that quite often was commisioned by the person themselves) to show how they looked for students? Books where history of art is treated as the ESSENTIAL part of the course?

Because that’s how I remember not only history books in school, but also a whole lot of books I would learn from at university (and my major was language/literature, not history or art). And I imagine that’s at least similar case in other countries, because you can’t learn about a history brushing off learning about culture, and about culture brushing off art.

So, my point is, even for the “efficient tools” like books, it’s crucial to have something to fill them with and saying anything else is very ignorant.
