Excerpt from Art and Revolt, by Albert Camus, art by José María Sicilia
“ If to understand is impossible, to know is necessary and to remember is a duty” -Primo Levi
On 27 January 1945 Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated by Soviet troops. In five years of activity at least 1.1 million prisoners died there (90 percent of them Jewis), many of those non killed in the gas chambers died of starvation, forced labor, medical experiments and individual executions.
This photo was taken in the Jewish Museum Berlin, it’s the “Fallen Leaves Installation”: 10.000 faces punched out of steel distribuited on the ground of the Memory Void. Visitors are invited to walk on the faces and listen to the sounds created by the metal sheets, as they clang and rattle against one another.
“Consider whether this is a man, Who labours in the mud Who knows no peace Who fights for a crust of bread Who dies at a yes or no.” - Primo Levi
the music was good it was safe but on a night like tonight, it was lonely, too.
“In books I have traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own.” - Anna Quindlen
The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (via annabethisterrified)
- Primo Levi
Sometimes I remind myself that I almost skipped the party, that I almost went to a different college, that the whim of a minute could have changed everything and everyone. Our lives, so settled, so specific, are built on happenstance .— Anna Quindlen, Every Last One
There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.
Happy Birthday Jane Austen☕️ December 16, 1775 - April 18, 1817
Chiara Baldassarri
Please don’t expect me to always be good and kind and loving. There are times when I will be cold and thoughtless and hard to understand.

student: does state-dependent memory mean that if you show up drunk to every lecture, you should take the midterm drunk?
