Yes I'm TECHNICALLY aware that the sun x moon ship dynamic is supposed to be based off of "bright happy person who radiates and brings joy and life around them x calm reserved person who still brings life and joy but does it in a softer quieter way among the stars" because I'm blunt and autistic, not stupid

HOWEVER, AND BEAR WITH ME while I quickly rearrange the meanings of this dynamic because I'm a nerd and make you consider Sun Simon Iron Lung x Moon Ryland Grace

Simon is the sun, Simon will be alive whether people like it or not, because he is filled to the brim with spite and anger and combustion and the will to live. He can bring life and just as easily take it away, because it is his nature, not his choice. He glows and won't die no matter how hard people try to kill him, born and raised to kill so he can bring life to one magnificent plant. He's radioactive, and boiling alive, and he still survives till the very end. They cannot ignore him because he is the closest thing to a star they have left.

Ryland is the moon, ever so slowly drifting away from Earth with no way to come back. People talk of him, and thank him, and he's important to Earth's survival, but he cannot see nor know of what he's done for it. He doesn't glow on his own, he needs a light source for that, the stars he's already trying to save. He moves tides, and makes the nights glow bright, but he is but a speck in the sky. We reach for him and we try to travel, but never the less he moves farther and farther out of our orbit.

ive seen people point out the difference between how benoit speaks to marta and helen and how he speaks to jud and yeah there is a difference but not what yall been implying. no its not about adopting the woman and speaking harshly w jud bc he's a man, its about the difference in the cases and the people living it. marta and helen were so caught up and focused on themselves and the case, FOR A GOOD REASON, mind you, that they never got to know benoit, he was a tool through which they solved the case and came out victorious. there's nothing wrong w that, the situation in which they were in didn't allow them a space of mind to get to know benoit, and knowing him he preferred that, he wasn't there to be the main character, he was there to help them solve the case and nothing else. but jud is a priest and he's a good one which means he's instinctively interested in people, his reflex is to get to know someone's story and sympathize with it, even in the middle of his "trial", even w the knowledge that he could be arrested or defrocked, his first thought when benoit comes into his church is to ask about him, is to get to know his past and sympathize w it. that's why benoit treats him differently. bc for the first time (that we've seen) someone is interested in him and that someone is completely innocent (which benoit knows from the first moment that he sees jud, which is why he entertains jud question at all, leading to an actual true connection between them) and as the time goes on jud continues to prove his innocence, even when literally all evidence points against him benoit doesn't think even for a SECOND that he could've killed samson bc by that time he's come to know jud and he knows he would never ever do that. and i do think the scene where jud rejects benoits help and instead chooses to focus on being a priest, even w the knowledge that he could be arrested, is the point where benoit decides he's gonna save him no matter what it takes bc he KNOWS without a shadow of a doubt that only a truly innocent and good person would do that, i mean just watch his face when jud leaves him to talk to louise, he's not angry, he's STUNNED bc this has never happened to him before which only proves that jud is different and that's why benoit treats him differently. do you get that. does that any make sense to you

charged as hell moment thank you daniel craig but this is also one of josh o'connor's most interesting acting choices in the movie To Me bc he doesn't play it goofy or flustered and instead wears the expression of an ex boxer that got beaten to a pulp by an older man a few days ago and is extremely not in the mood to be cornered in the dark by another erratic man. his feelings towards his fellow man seem to exist on a scale between tolerance and rage and even after finding his calling in helping people as a priest he keeps being put in situations where he has to try so so so hard to tamp down on that rage. which is of course the message of the movie: stop stoking your rage and learn tolerance etc etc.

but there is also the unspoken layer to this character which is the Hot Priest of it all and the implicitly queer casting choice of josh o'connor. this character and craig's (somewhat) openly gay detective keep being put in close quarters and engaging in far more physicality than we are used to seeing between blanc and his companions. there's this elephant in the room in the shape of father jud's unmentioned sexuality - where does it lie in his aforementioned scale of tolerance and rage? of course him embracing blanc at the end and the "all are welcome" sign indicates that he is accepting and welcoming of others, that's not even a question. but this movie posits him as a guy that scared himself with the strength of his emotions and ability to physically harm another man and now won't even indulge in playing detective with one but instead seems to want to dissociate into divinity and priesthood and helping other people (and it didn't escape my notice that all his favorite sinners in this film, martha, grace, louise and her mother - were all women). and i'm just like man. this guy is so scared of himself he thought he blacked out and killed another innocent man. whatever tolerance he's able to extend to other people barely seems to exist for himself. and i'm not supposed to think he's queer?

cant stop thinking about this. in this scene jud is going out of his way to be kind in a way benoit wouldn't even have THOUGHT to be. thats what this face says to me. jud has a dying woman in his arms and his first thought is to get her to forgive grace and to let her hatred go. he's sending her to death by absolving her of her life long hatred. he's gentle but firm about it, this is important, not just for martha, but for grace too. for jud too. this is his first time performing last rites and he does it through forgiveness. benoit having grown up as catholic would know what last rites are and how the other priests usually do them and know that jud is unique in this too. the look on his face is so tender. he genuinely thinks highly of jud

The Conclave bit where Lawrence is told "His Holiness is refusing to get dressed" and 2 seconds later Vincent saying to Thomas "I was waiting for you to come" is driving me INSANE. Vincent wouldn't get dressed - wouldn't become the Pope - before getting Thomas's approval and understanding. He knew Thomas would come to him, he knew they would have to talk, and he would delay the WHOLE THING until Thomas came and Vincent told him his secret.
