hi cassie! i’m so excited and thankful for his universe! what is one good quality and one negative quality that ash has inherited from his parents? even janus (step parent vibes)?
That's an interesting question because Ash's "parents" aren't exactly people you'd look to as role models.
What I think Ash inherits from them isn't negative or positive traits so much as qualities that are morally neutral. Those qualities can become virtues or vices depending on the choices he makes and the reasons he makes them.
Sebastian, for instance, is/was extraordinarily determined. He achieved some truly lunatic goals. Determination is an admirable quality in the abstract; it's what lets people persevere through impossible circumstances. But determination without empathy becomes selfish ambition, and that can lead to terrible things. Ash has inherited that determination — but we don't yet know where he'll take it.
The Seelie Queen is incredibly intelligent and politically perceptive. She understands power, people's desires, and how to influence them. None of those qualities are inherently evil; in fact, they're often the mark of a gifted leader. But she uses them primarily to control and manipulate others and she does not limit her cruelty. Ash has inherited her instinct for reading people and her strategic way of thinking. The question for him is whether he uses these insights to manipulate people or to understand them.
Janus probably had the greatest influence on the person Ash became. At one point, Janus genuinely cared for him and protected him in the ways he knew how, but Janus also believes that the ends justify almost any means. He wants Clary and he doesn't much care if she wants him back, or what he has to do in order to have her. He is also willing to use Ash in any way to get what he wants. Janus may have taught Ash some things about love, but all Janus' love is twisted up and eventually destructive. Ash needs to understand that love is an important good, but love isn't not caring about the other person's free will and agency.
Determination can become relentless fanaticism. Political intelligence can become manipulation. Love can become possessiveness. An interesting thing about Ash is that he's got nature, nurture, and magic all tangled up together as influences on him.
Dru showing Ash the most horrendous horror movie on the planet earth 🥰
POV: Clary and Sebastian get matching t-shirts.
(fun fact: both can be either Cain or Abel depending on the dimension they're from)
Just realized that Janus kidnapped Clary in the same storage room closet that Jace and Clary met in.
"You saved my life," she said. "Why?"
He looked down at her, something that was not quite a smile curling the edge of his mouth. "You'll find out," he said. "You might even come to hate me for it."

We know that Clary Fairchild found out about her secret identity as Shadowhunter, that she fought and won two wars, and even rid the world of half of her family (slay queen). But what else was going on in the States in 2007? Here's a list:
Bush was president.
Wearing a thousand layers was considered fashion.
Also fake tan.
Ugg Boots, flats, and sneakers (especially Converse).
Denim everywhere.
Famous Disney Channel shows airing included: Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and The Emperor's New School.
That's so Raven and Kim Possible aired their last season.
Phineas and Ferb, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Cory in the House aired their first season.
High School Musical 2, Enchanted, and Ratatouille came out.
More movies: Transformers, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, 300, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
Nickelodeon, on the other hand, offered: Zoey 101, Totally Spies, Lazy Town, H2O: Just Add Water, and Spongebob.
Icarly's first season aired.
Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Danny Phantom, Drake & Josh ended.
And then Cartoon Network: Ben 10, Teen Titans, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Ed, Edd n Eddy, George of the Jungle.
Some songs that came out that year included: "Umbrella" by Rihanna & Jay-Z, "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse, "No One" by Alicia Keys, "Don't Stop the Music" by Rihanna, "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne, "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood.

too wise to love
Thinking about how hard The Time of Two would have hit if the titles of TWP hadn't been released yet.
thoughts on the three novellas I've read:
The Time of Two - Clace:
I feel this is the one I liked best out of the three.
But, at the same time, I think it was too fast-paced. I wouldn't say it was rushed, per se, but it definitely could have benefited from a few more pages. Maybe cut the start where they (conveniently) walk in on Maryse and have the story start with Clace already set on looking for Max, and give those pages to Max.
Hate the double wedding.
Big retcon about Clary's powers because now apparently she can create runes at will rather than having to wait for the angel to send a vision???
And when Jace says he arrived in New York when he was nine.
Too Wise to Love - Sebastian x Seelie Queen:
I was the most worried about this one because I feared Sebastian might suffer from a violent character assassination, but I actually enjoyed this.
The Seelie Queen??? actually in love??? with Sebastian??? whatever did she see in him???
certainly not his personality.
The timeline of this is kinda weird considering their relationship lasted a month and a half at most.
faerie's deus-ex-machina time warping powers strike again, I guess.
sebastian knew about ash during COHF?????
This means Ash was born in january? maybe february?
shocked that Sebastian took the news so well. i expected he would be anything but pleased about it, if he ever found out. at least not at first.
The seelie queen's eyes magically go from blue to green after she gives birth.
Ash and Sebastian's births are awfully similar. Both labours are described as incredibly bloody and painful and, after the birth, both mothers refused their child, not wanting to touch or even feed them.
Which is odd because from what we see in Forever Fallen and QoAAD the queen did care about Ash. But here it seems like she always saw him as just a weapon.
And, apparently, Ash got his wings super young?? Because I always thought that they manifested while he was in Thule (hence Sebastian's: 'he is becoming more')
Who the Wolf Loves - Luke x Jocelyn:
Basically the story of how Jocelyn and Valentine got together and 'divorced' told for the third time. (and in a yet another version of it)
Yes, the Circle timeline became even more messed up.
Why did CC make LukexJocelyn about miscommunication???
CC x miscommunication is the true otp of the TSC universe.
Jocelyn having a brother was not on my bingo card, and I lowkey hate that it was added. I'm not even sure why, I just do.
This guy was not mentioned once??? In twenty books?? Not even the recent ones??
This story implies that Luke is one year older than Jocelyn (they both started the academy at 15, but Luke started one year earlier than Jocelyn), which is just not true because they're both born in 1970.
While in 'The Evil We Love', which takes place in 1984, both Luke and Jocelyn are already attending the Academy, and Valentine and Jocelyn have just started dating.
Jocelyn's father died???? in the year she and Luke weren't talking??? When it's stated clearly that Valentine burned both of her parents alive??? And that this is the man who handmade the infamous J.C. box when Sebastian was born??? in 1990???
Also, I think there was a criminal lack of Amatis mentions considering she is Luke's sister...
In Who the Wolf Loves, I think it's a typo, and instead of saying father, it's supposed to say brother. Doesn't it say that Jocelyn was held back a year because her brother was sick? I completely agree that there was a criminally lack of Amatis content!
Okay, I'll admit I didn't think it could be a typo 😅
About their ages, I'm pretty sure the story says they both were fifteen when they started the Academy. So, Luke must have been sixteen when Jocelyn started at fifteen.

Ok, wanna bet the Paris flat Jocelyn and Luke end up staying in (the one that was owned by some Fairchild ancestor) is Matthew's?????
Also, what if that is the same flat Valentine was staying in during The Wicked Ones'?? bc the thought of Valentine defiliing Matthew's property with his presence is honestly sickening.
