If you’re not here to dance with me, get out.

Claire gave a meager shrug in reply. The past few days she’d just been going from one thing to the next, as if she had put herself on autopilot. Then again, that was how she’d been feeling for a little while now: running on autopilot while she waited to wake up from reality.
Claire leaned against the door frame and crossed her arms while she waited for her medication, which she hated taking but still needed in from time-to-time when she found it difficult to breath. Almost a year after the attack and Claire was still working her way back to recovery–though the trouble with breathing was a side affect to the damage to her vocal cord nerves.
‘Sorry, I didn’t mean to come down on your day off,’ Claire quickly wrote, after realizing what the Matron had said when she entered the room.
Asha paused to read what the girl had written and offered her a small smile. “Nonsense,” she assured Claire, gently--she knew that she couldn’t be as harsh with children like Claire as she was with everyone else, but Asha’s prickly disposition was not always so easily set to the side. Still, for the scared little girl’s sake, she tried. “That’s why I keep your medicine in here--so you can get to it any time you need it, even if I’m not working.” Asha retrieved the girl’s medicine and handed it over to her.
“Now,” she said, her voice still soft and gentle. “Do you want to tell me about what’s troubling you?”

‘I was just wondering if you had my medicine?’ Claire wrote, standing in the doorway.
Asha read the note and had the urge to scowl, but she reigned it in--Claire was a delicate sort of kid, one that Asha actually wanted desperately not to squash under her high-heels. It was strange, because most of the kids in the castle were completely under her radar, kids that she wouldn’t glance twice at, kids that she wouldn’t recognize in the corridors after she’d stitched them up. Claire was different. She was a mute. Totally mute, never said a word. It made Asha want to protect her, which was a foreign feeling. “Sure thing,” she muttered, gesturing for the girl to enter and have a seat on her bed. Asha kept Claire’s medication in her personal quarters because she wanted to make sure that she could get it any time she needed it, regardless of her own gut reactions. She made her way to the little drawers on her bedside table, rummaging for the medication. “Doing okay today, Claire?”

“It’s my night off and I’m not here to bandage your wounds.”
kyra-ofarrel:
“I really didn’t need it in the first place. It’s just a scratch.”
“It is far better to be safe than sorry, Miss O’Farrel, and I would much rather you wear the bandage than get yourself an infection. Now. Are you ready to tell me how it happened?”
“Now, keep that bandage on and you should be fine in a day or two.”
jonah-santos:
“I’ve really got to get going and I’m running late enough as it is–but shouldn’t you be eating dinner in the Great Hall instead of standing out here?”
“An entire hall of shouting children isn’t going to do a thing for this headache of mine,” Asha replied with a small smile. “But I do like to be close by when they’re eating--you never know when someone will choke or cut themselves on accident or have an allergic reaction and it’s really best for me not to be far away.”
albus-themiddlepotter:
Fuck! It was the only word that came to mind when she insisted that he joined her in the hospital wing. Grumbling under his breath, he did as she said and walked into the hospital wing. “What now?”
Asha gestured for him to sit down, looking at his eyes--he seemed fairly okay, but the fact that he was so disoriented concerned her all the same. She conjured some water into a pitcher and poured him a glass. “You’re going to wait here until the current class period is over,” she instructed. “And then you’re going to go to the Great Hall and have yourself something to eat, and then you’ll go and see what class you have next. For now, do you think a pepper-up would help?”
albus-themiddlepotter:
“For my defense it has been a stressful week.” Albus raised his hands and shook his head, “no really I am fine.”
“That was not a suggestion, Mr. Potter. Seeing as you have nowhere else to be right now--or if you do, you don’t know about it--I won’t have you wandering the halls in this state. In the hospital wing, now.”
albus-themiddlepotter:
“If I did not even know my location, do you honestly believe I would know what class I should be in? Bloody hell, I didn’t even know classes were taking place at the moment.”
“...and you expect me to believe that you’re all right when you don’t know where you are or what time it is?” Asha raised an eyebrow. “Come with me.”
albus-themiddlepotter:
“Odd place to be at this time,” he simply responded as he looked around confused on how he got there in the first place. “I’m still breathing so I take that as a sign that I am all right.”
“I agree with that, Mr. Potter,” she responded. “Do you know which class you’re supposed to be in right now?”
albus-themiddlepotter:
“Where the hell is everyone? Did I miss some big announcement? Actually where am I?”
“You’re just outside the hospital wing.” Asha regarded him carefully--something was off. “Are you all right?”
Yes, yes, come in.
lovemollyweasley:
“Yeah, Milo’s almost given himself a heart attack worrying about the first years on the stairs. It’s Okay,” she shrugged noncommittally. “Crazy busy, but that’s to be expected.” She respected Asha, but doubted that she needed to air all her personal grievances.
“Let’s hope that doesn’t happen--heart attacks don’t come around too often here, so I’m a bit rusty.” Asha joked lightly, letting Molly know that she wasn’t cross with her--Asha was just a bit rough around the edges. “Crazy busy? Yes, seventh year can be quite a challenge. But Molly... you’re allowed to have a bit of fun, too, you know.” She didn’t mention that she’d all but flunked out of her seventh year, herself, but she knew that it was possible to not be perfect and still be at least moderately successful in life.
Yes, yes, come in.

Asha offered a small smile–at least Molly was dedicated and worked hard, and the least she could do was show a fraction of how much she appreciated the girl. “If you’d like to inventory the Potions cabinet, that would be immensely helpful.”
“Of course!” Molly smiled, making her way over to the cabinet. “Has it been crazy around here lately?”
“Nothing was quite as crazy as our first evening this year,” Asha replied easily, writing reports as she went. “Everything after that has been fairly routine--first years falling on the stairs and scraping their knees, mostly.” She looked up at the girl. “How has your year been going so far, then?”
Yes, yes, come in.
lovemollyweasley:
“I’m fine with anything,” she shrugged. It appeared that Asha was in a bit of a mood today, so Molly just wanted to do her best to be helpful and lighten her load.
