Grey wanted to say no. He really and truly wanted to. He was happy enough that his best friends came for visit but wasn’t overly excited about them picking this location. It wasn’t bad as such, it is just wasn’t nothing like him.
They could hang out in Opal, that’s his place after all. His friends didn’t have the same opinion obviously as they heard from one or two people that simple pleasures is where all the fun is.
Hoping that one of them will get sober and it won’t be necessary to intervene, he just went to the bar and got himself drink. It was a bit harder to recognised her with so little clothes on, but it was definitely her.
“It looks like it’s quite busy here tonight. If you see three dopes trying to get on stage, they are unfortunately my friends. How have you been?”
Asha had already worked two sets on the main stage and the night was still young. She'd found that tonight was a winner. The amount of money that she'd already collected from her two main stage dances, a few private rooms, and the VIP section was crazy. She was clearly on fire tonight and it might have been going to her head a little. Just a little. After all, she knew she was the shit with out without the attention.
Making her rounds near the bar, she spotted a familiar face and grinned. She adjusted the girls in her bra and snapped the string of her thong against her hip before she found herself making a beeline for Grey. "Well, well, well..." she giggled as she slithered up next to him. "This is new for you," she pointed out as she placed a seductive hand on his arm. She was still at work after all. She had to play the game even if it was Grey.
Her eyes flickered towards the stage and she spotted the group of rowdy men and smiled. "That's why it's so crazy tonight," she laughed. "Well, tell your boys they can absolutely keep the money train flowing and there's some girls that would love to give some private dances," she batted her eyelashes at Grey.
"I'm doing well," she dropped her hand to his knee, giving him a pat there. "Can I move you and your friends to the VIP?"

Despite the fact the back and forth between the two was incredibly draining, Laurie knew he would never truly stop fighting for Asha, not until there was no chance left for them, but he knew deep down he wasn’t at that point yet. He’d been told all his life, if you love something it’s always worth fighting for, and that’s exactly how he felt about Asha. He could tell she had a lot on her mind, it wasn’t often they sat in silence together, he knew she spoke her mind but this time was different, she was hesitant.
He kept his hand linked with hers, his teeth pulling his bottom lip in between them as he glanced over at the woman, concern filled deeply in his eyes as he let her take the lead. “No actually.. You didn’t.” He spoke softly, hoping his voice would have some comfort for her, make her feel safe and all that jazz, despite the fact he himself felt out of his comfort zone. Her quiet demeanour already told him it wasn’t something she liked to talk about, but he hoped she trusted him enough to share. “Before you do, just know I’ll still think the world of you, regardless of how or why.”
Resting her head upon his shoulder again, Asha grew quiet once more. His words were comforting to hear, but she still wasn't dead set on spilling all of her dirty little secrets. She gave his hand a squeeze and lifted it to her mouth, kissing the back of it. "That's very sweet," she said gently as a tear gathered in the corner of her eye.
Closing her eyes, Asha shook her head softly against his shoulder. Why had she never dealt with any of this before? The option for therapy was right there. Yet, she decided just pushing forward was the brightest idea. She was strong. She could handle it.
That was the issue with the strong black girl trope. They never get a chance to be vulnerable and fall apart because they're the ones expected to always keep everything together. The weight of the world on their shoulders.
Well look at where it had gotten her.
Inhaling a deep breath, she just said it, " I got pregnant at 17..."

bravery is a newer addition to her list of wants and things to be, something that certainly shows and while it isn't as if dealing with overly drunk customers is a new experience for her, dealing with them alone is a little more... fresh.
of course, applying what she'd seen the likes of tyson and the other men that worked at 'poshed and sloshed' doesn't hit quite the same when her voice shakes and she isn't quite as tall, but hell, aylin tried. she'd even raised her voice, threatened to ban them and even grabbed her phone to call her brother to come to the rescue and definitely do a better job that she had. but in the end, she'd needn't call for back up, because back up had already been there.
coming back into the bar wringing her shaking hands, aylin plasters on a smile and takes a breath, happy to hear the familiar and settled buzz of her family's business again and not the shouts of a bitter drunk.
"um... thanks for backing me up," she chuckles awkwardly. "i thought i was gonna have to chase him out with a bar stool or something. could you imagine?" a pause, long enough to giggle to herself. "i'd never be able to live that down."
Asha wasn't very tall or seemingly intimidating at first glance but looks were very deceiving. She was a force a nature - always had been. Always would be. Small but mighty was a term she heard often. Though it had been a while since she'd had to use her powers when she heard Aylin trying to regulate from her spot tucked away in the back of the bar, she knew that she had to help.
Asha had probably terrified those guys have to death with the way she'd lost it on them but that's what happened when you missed with her friends. She wasn't afraid to set the world on fire just to create warmth. And that's what she'd done for Aylin. She doubted those jokers would ever show their face at Poshed and Sloshed again.
Now sitting more visible incase someone attempted to come back, she looked up at Aylin as she returned. She was the sweetest thing and didn't deserve those asshole drama. "Of course," she smiled softly, taking Aylin's hands. "You know I always got your back," she chuckled, "though a visual of that will not live rent free in my head."
"and a happy pride to you!" he chuckles, pulling asha in for a half hug around the way she held onto him the best he could. he tips his cowboy hat, pushes the sunglasses back up his nose and puts a grin back onto his face, reminding himself that this is fun milo's night out and not tired, exhausted milo.
"oh, well now you're really spoilin' me, aren't ya?" milo grins, leaning up against one of the kitchen counters. "if you want to. i'll only pocket everything and make a run for it otherwise. i'm a growin' boy, and all that."
"Thank you, thank you!" Asha grinned. These days, she wasn't quite sure how she identified. She'd only ever been with men of course but that didn't stop her from looking at women and getting tingly feelings. Maybe one day she'd get the balls to explore that a little deeper.
"And what kind of mom would I be if I didn't?" She asked him with a laugh. She began opening up various foil pans and scooping food into Milo's plate, snatching a few bites for herself here and there. Turning to him, she handed him the plate and stuck a plastic fork in it before she announced. "Now drinks!"
"nah... i just, have a lot of responsibilities..." milo mumbles. or old ones, perhaps. the sorts that had followed him all the way to fairford without a show of mercy, not even once. of course, he's got no one but himself to blame for some of the debts still chasing him. the rest would fall on his aunt. but she wouldn't do anything about that, would she?
still cleaning up after his dad, he supposed. even now, with the man equivalent to ashes in the wind.
but, as she could so naturally do, asha pulls milo from his thoughts with the simple pet name, only to deepen the red in his cheeks. "ya know what? i think i'm alright beggin' for tips," he says awkwardly, clearing his throat as he began to fiddle with his beer bottle. he couldn't tell if it was an embarrassed heat of sorts scolding his face, or if it's the shame. "i like my body bein' my own again."
milo sits still in his fidgeting long enough to tilt his head and allow asha the room to wipe at his face, his teeth gnawing at the inside of his bottom lip. "thanks for sayin' i'm cute, though."
"Oh," Asha said softly. Something about that response was unsettling to her but she made the conscious decision not to ask more questions. If Milo wanted to tell her, he'd tell her.
Picking up her glass, Asha drew a long gulp from it before she chuckled at the way Milo turned red. "Don't worry about it babe, it's not for everyone," she told him gently playing her hand on his arm. "Though, I could ask about you getting behind the bar or being a server - both make good tips and you'd be working with Thadd."
"I mean, you're the cutest Milo." She grinned. "I know you know it too. I see you way you be eyeing people and they be eyeing back."
"It is important, Ash." Harper sighed and pulled up the bar stool to sit beside her sister. "I came to find you. I was gonna explore more once we've checked in. And you're not doing good, girl. Where did that bartender go? I...Ash, I'm worried and don't know if this is the right time and space, but we need to figure out this whole...Laurie.." she whispered, her eyes scanning the room for other knowing Fairford residents. "You're drunk...we should, we should go home." The younger Dean's voice increased with worry.
Asha rolled her eyes at Harper. Here we go. The little sister trying to be her savior. God, for a while there she'd forgotten how annoying the girl could be at times. "To get me another drink," she explained with a toss of her locs before her eyes rolled again. "Laurie, Laurie, Laurie, Jesus, not everything is about him, Fuck!" Pulling away from Harper, Asha reiterated. "I've only had 3 fucking glasses of some extremely watered down whiskey. I'm not even close to drunk," she eyed Harper up and down, "buzzed? Maybe. Drunk? Piss off."
Asha was currently reeling with a lot of misplaced emotions and Harper was the poor unlucky soul getting the raw end of the deal.
"If you want to go, we can go but please miss me with the lecture and the deep conversation about feelings and fucking Laurie. I don't want to talk about his ass, I'm over it, I'm done. Let's go," she all but hissed at Harper before she hopped off the barstool and snatched up her bag. She gripped the edge of the bar to steady herself for a moment before she dug through the purse for a few bills. She tossed them on the bar before she whipped her head to look at Harper. "C'mon."

If Laurie was honest, he wasn't sure why he had stuck around for Asha all this time, it was plucking away at his heart but he just couldn't leave. She was incredible, everything about her had Laurie in awe and even when he was trying his hardest to stay away she still managed to draw him in like a moth to a flame. It was infuriating yet he was head over heels for her, the angel on his shoulder telling him to cut things off but the devil pushing him closer only made him want her more. He swallowed down his feelings in this moment, as he grew older he was learning to listen better, think more and that's all he wanted to do for her, be there and listen.
Laurie wasn't sure what to expect, her sister had pushed for them to talk, a moment he had reeled off so easily in the comfort of his own home alone but now it's as if the words had just vanished, he didn't know if he had it in him anymore. His head nodded as she spoke, he wasn't going to push for anything from her, he had realised pressing her for answers or an explanation had only built a wall higher between them. "You don't have to say anything. It's fine, I'm here." He squeezed her hand softly, his thumb stroking her smooth skin as he took a deep breath in.
Studying his face, Asha could tell that all of this was weighing on him. It weighted on her too. Clawing at her back constantly. There was just this unbalanced scale of emotions, that she felt was mainly on her part. Sure, Laurie had played his part early on but these days it was definitely her.
Laying her head on his shoulder once more, she grew very quiet as her mind wondered. She was battling with herself. Tell him all of her trauma or continue to let him live in the shadow of her past. He deserved to know why she often held him at arms length and pushed him away any time he got too close.
Did this have the potential to ruin literally everything? Yes.
Was she willing to risk that? She wasn't sold.
"Did I ever tell you why I moved to Fairford?" She found herself asking him despite all of her reservations.

The feeling Laurie felt when near Asha was something he would never be able to explain properly, as much as things were not always easy between them, he knew she just understood him and he didn't have to pretend to be anyone else or be that guy everyone had high expectations of. The idea of not being in Asha's life didn't feel like an option for Laurie, he cared so deeply for her and although it sounded dramatic or extreme even, he wasn't sure he would know what to do with himself. Asha was always on his mind.
He finally let go of the breath he was holding in as she spoke, his teeth pulling in his bottom lip to stop himself saying anything more than what he needed to in this moment. He wasn't expecting her to close the gap between them, let alone rest her head on his shoulder, it took him back a little but he stayed put as he just embraced how close she was. It toyed with his mind though, one minute she was knocking on his door for sex, the next she was avoiding him at all costs, asking for a clean split and space and now here they were sat next to each other, both closed off yet so vulnerable at the same time. Laurie stayed quiet as she spoke, he wanted to let her do the talking and if he was honest, he still wasn't sure what she wanted to hear from him. "Here we are." He whispered, his hand moving slowly to place it on top of hers gently.
Asha knew she could be a walking conundrum. She was complicated in all the ways that mattered most. Still though, Laurie was there. Even when she upset him, hurt him, and pushed him away. He was there. He understood her on an unspoken level, even without knowing all the gritty details about her life.
He had patience for her. She wasn't sure if that was exactly the right word, but it's the one that she had in the moment.
She took a sip of her drink as he placed his hand over hers. Talk to him. The words were ever echoing in her head. The issue was, Asha never asked for clarity. What did Harper mean by that. Was she supposed to admit that she loved him, tell him about her trauma, or just talk.
Life was like Avril said why'd you have to go and make things so complicated? "The issue is... I don't know what to say," she tells him as she turned her hand up and interlocks their fingers. "So... we can settle for just... being here..."

For some reason, this felt ten times harder than the last time they split up, it felt more personal and the more Asha pushed Laurie away, the harder it was to pull himself back in. He knew he had messed up last time by letting the woman go, he was foolish and he liked to think he had grown up more now, yet here he stood with Asha still trying to deny him. His eyes glanced around at his surroundings as his heart was screaming for him to just talk to her, he had missed her presence so deeply and yet he so desperately wanted to respect what she had asked, it was draining the soul out of him and he wasn't sure how much longer he could cling on to the thread hanging between them.
Laurie shuffled on the spot as she patted the curb beside her, his mind running over her words as he let himself actually believe she wanted wanted to talk to him. "You sure?" He whispered, he didn't want to overstep and damn, did he feel vulnerable right now. Pulling his hands out of his pockets, Laurie took a seat next to Asha, close but not too close to disrespect her. It wasn't often he was unsure what to say to her but he found himself speechless, hands resting on his knees as he sighed softly, eyes drifting to catch her gaze.
That was the thing about them. She wasn't sure if he had this too but she could often feel his presence when he was near. Like a sixth sense, the fine hairs on the back of her neck would stand at attention. She could also, often times feel his emotions. Obviously it wasn't always accurate but she felt that she was pretty good at reading him. Afterall at this point they'd known each other for a few years and there was a time that they were velcro.
So, that said, she could tell that he was nervous. She could sense his hesitation and his push and pull of wanting to respect the boundaries that she'd put in place and his longing to be near her. It was a gift and a curse to be in tuned with him in this way.
"I'm sure," she breathed and when he finally sat down, placing a distance between them, she closed it and rested her head on his shoulder.
She sighed out and nuzzled herself into his side despite the stickiness of the summer air. "Harper said I should talk to you..." she admitted to him. "And I told her, hell no." Lifting her head from his shoulder, she looked at him. "Yet, here we are..."

despite her having never been to an actual drag show before, it's not like she's totally out of the loop --- aviva has no problem promoting them on her show and social platforms, even if just to spread the message. so when she finally has the opportunity to attend, it's a no brainer. it seems like it'll be a fun time.
"oh! definitely something sweet." a nod of her head in confirmation, standing up a bit as she decides. "i don't see how people can chug the most bitter tasting drinks like it's water. literally disgusting." definitely not a beer person, that's for certain. "i tried a barcardi white rum once, so good. though i'm not seeing it on here, so i might be shit out of luck." shrugs. it's not an entirely big deal. "what do you usually get?"
Sweet. Something sweet. That was easy. The were a plethora is sweet, sugary drinks. They'd surely leave you with a massive headache in the morning but they were damn delicious. Her mind raced with the options. "Oh!" she grinned. "Baby, look at the bar," she gestured towards the shelf of options. "You don't have to order something off the menu, you can ask for anything and they'll whip it up for you." Her eyes scanned the seemingly endless shelf of liquor before she spotted it. "They have it," she pointed with her long nail towards the bottle. "Ask them to spice that up for you."
"Me? I'm a whiskey gal. A bourbon baby if you will." She grinned as she thought of the dumbest saying, she still said it anyway. "If it's brown, we getting down." And she even offered Aviva a wink.
"fun, diner milo. the one that that doesn't hate his life," milo grins, closing the space between he and asha to let go of her hand and put an arm around her shoulder instead. "also, it's pride. so i figured, two birds one stone and all that. then i don't have to go and suffer the crowds at parade and i can scratch glitter off the hat onto thadd's bed or something as my gift."
because milo hadn't been able to afford anything else besides a pack of beers for the guy, and that, made him feel bad.
at the question, milo tilts his head with a shit eating grin and, before his brain could catch up and shut his already two beers in mouth, he says "because that's what good momma's do, right?"
"take care of their good boys?"
A grimace appeared on Asha's face as she eyed Milo more. "Okay..." she groaned out, thinking that he looked ridiculous. Sure, she was dressed like an animated bunny but that was the point. He just stood out - however, if he liked it then she loved it. "It is pride," she thought about it as he said it and she grinned, "Happy Pride Milo!" bouncing up and down on her toes, she gripped his arms and gave him a squeeze.
"mama?" Asha gazed upon Milo with an unreadable expression before she laughed out and said, "that's fair. I'll take it!" Holding his hand, she lead him into the kitchen and she looked over all of the options before she grabbed a plate. "Should mama make your plate?"
"oh... ya know, life and stuff." like the debt and the rent and the bills and saving for a bedframe because he at least deserved that much, didn't he? maybe a couch to shove in the corner and one day, he'd be able to justify a tv. maybe he'd even get his studio up and running enough that having people over wouldn't leave him dying of shame.
one day. when he'd worked hard enough.
but, it takes a moment or two for milo to catch on to just what asha's suggesting, long enough that when the bulb goes off, he starts laughing. "nah, i ain't got the body to impress anyone. i mean, i'm tryin' at the gym but i keep gettin' distracted. but if they're cool with someone moonlighting the bar? i could do that. fuck it, three jobs, why not."
the kiss to his cheek is unexpected, so much so that milo finds himself blushing and fidgeting all abashed. "well... i appreciate ya too," he mumbles, eyeballing his drink. "yep..."
"You mean to tell me you're making pennies at Opal?!" She was shocked. Opal was such a big club - were they underpaying their employees? That was really fucked up. Maybe she needed to go talk to Grey. At the very least, on Milo's behalf. She didn't really care about everyone else.
A smile stretched across her face and she shook her head at him. "Baby, I'm not talking about getting on the pole," she giggled. Her eyes looking him over again. "I'm talking about OnlyFans." Her eyes sparkled. "Scantily clad on your own terms and there's something for everybody. You're cute Milo, you'll have all type of women subscribing to see your scrawny ass."
"The best part about it is, you really don't have to even be doing anything sexual. You can just be cooking breakfast with your shirt off and people will flock." She was speaking from her own experience. Her own OnlyFans was mostly filled with pictures of her in a bikini and maybe some lingerie. Nothing crazy and she made money. "Think about it."
Seeing Milo blushing, Asha grinned at him, gently wiping her lip gloss from his cheek with a napkin.

"Y'all are delusional. If you must know - Laurie told me he loved me and I split because I don't feel the same. So, there you go. The truth of the matter."
