I have never been very good at resisting the wind. I tend to let it decide the direction, trusting that there is something to be found in every place it carries me. Perhaps that is why I have always loved reading and writing—they are quiet ways of wandering, of stepping into lives that are not my own while learning a little more about my own in return.
I find a certain tenderness in being looked after with gentle thoughtfulness—not because I cannot stand on my own, but because kindness has always seemed like one of the rarest forms of intelligence. I think there is something beautiful about remaining soft in a world that so often mistakes softness for weakness.
