Of course there was more beneath the surface; it was a dark pit, one spiraling down into chamber of secrets and knowledge heâd come across in his mere twenty years of living. Heâd keep them under lock and key though, for there was no reason to go about telling his life story or information heâs gathered over the years on select individuals. Why would he leave himself in the open like that? Spilling othersâ weaknesses were just the same as spilling your ownâŚ
âI have noticed a particular behavior of yours that I would like to address. One that you should consider mending.â
Despite the hair covering half his face, Hubertâs bright eyes were sharp and observant - even now, as he watched the careful movements of Byleth as she packed, paused, and shifted. She was uncomfortable, if that much wasnât obvious. Heâd pay no mind or yield none in his mannerisms; heâd grown far too familiar to the attitude & if she were truly uncomfortable, she would voice her concerns to him. Either way, it would be insight onto the type of character she was & how useful or not sheâd be to him.
âYou have taken a particular fondness to Lady Edelgard in your short time here - more so over other students in this class.â
Adjusting his gloves - an unconscious attempt to appear less threatening, perhaps - Hubert continued, unaware at how he might only look more intimidating that way.
âI would advise against developing any level of favoritism to her if you know what is good for you.â
This is...not quite what Byleth was expecting. Being threatened over Edelgard wasnât outlandish in regards to Hubertâs general demeanor. What was strange was that apparently, Byleth had been favoring her? And that was a bad thing?Â
She had not picked up on herself prioritizing Edelgard, if that were the case. She wasnât sure whether Hubert was noticing something she hadnât, or if the other was simply being too overly cautious of his master. She couldnât help but think it odd, though, that it was bad for her to take a liking to her, especially considering Edelgard had sung such high praises of her after the bandit situation...Maybe it was arrogant for her to think as such, but, it seemed like the other had deemed her an asset.Â
Perhaps the issue here was that Hubert simply didnât approve. If she thought about it, she did tend to speak to Edelgard more than the other students outside of class, but, it was because she was the house leader. It was only right for the professor to be more involved with the house leader than the others...right?
Regardless of all the theorization, she was plain confused. Bylethâs brow furrowed.Â
Well, what in the world was she supposed to say to that, actually? âIâm not playing favorites, youâre just delusionalâ?Â
                 âYouâre mistaken.
Iâm not âfavoringâ Edelgard over the other students, at least, not that Iâm aware of...
Could you possibly elaborate on where you think Iâm acting out of line?âÂ
She couldnât exactly âmendâ behaviors that she wasnât aware of, after all.
