Adventures in Alola had been a fun learning experience and the island trials had been challenging, but for now Ashâs time in Alola had come to an end. Professor Oak had another task for Ash to do while he was thinking about where to go next, an important one to deliver a item of importance to Celestic Town in the Sinnoh Region; the Griseous Orb. An associate of Professor Oakâs had found it, but still needed to do research at the location it was found, and knowing how the Adamant Orb and the Lustruous Orb had been stolen in the past they wanted to put it under both the protection of police officers and strong trainers to ensure itâs safety.Â
Officer Jennys and her fellow police officers couldnât leave their jurisdictions, and Team Galactic Ash had encountered had been arrested and thought to be disbanded long ago, but in Sinnoh there had also been disturbances and sightings of the portals Ash and his friends had seen that looked like the same one Cyrus had entered in disappeared into another dimension. And so, a familiar friend was accompanying Ash back to Sinnoh that could cross jurisdictions and look into the matter, Detective Looker of the International Police along with another familiar face Ash had not seen in a long time. Salon Maiden Anabel of the Battle Frontier as a shock and a surprise to see, but she was no longer a Frontier Brain of the Battle Tower, now she was Lookerâs boss of the International Police. They had both been in Alola recently and when Ash asked why after their re-introductions at Professor Oakâs place, they couldnât comment and said it was top secret, but they could trust Ash to help them guard the Griseous Orb back to Celestic Town.
Once the Orb had been delievered, they had travelled to Hearthome City as the recent sighting of another mysterious portal had appeared there, and after they had established a base in their hotel rooms Looker had suggested Ash might as well go see the sights and sounds of the city until they finished their investigation of where the portal had appeared and if anything had entered - or left. Ash had heard there was a festival going on called the Winter Solstice Festival. Initially he and Pikachu went there to get something to eat and check out the sights and sounds, but he was really surprised to have found out not only was a Pokemon Contest going on there, but a much more familiar face was performing there he had missed a lot - Serena!
He had watched her performance, cheered for her and voted for her, but before and after he hadnât gotten the chance to find her anywhere around the contest area, as there were a lot of people and he couldnât see sight of her anywhere. The staff had said she had already left too, even after waiting for her to come out from backstage. Disappointed, Ash decided to take Pikachu out for a walk in the nearby Amity Square before heading back to the hotel.
The day had turned to night, and the bright city lights were coming on as Ash walked somberly through the park with his thoughts on Serena, Pikachu noticing his trainer was feeling down and giving him a affectionate nuzzle to cheer him up. âPiiiika!â Ash laughed and gave Pikachu a friendly pat in return. âItâs okay buddy, Iâm sure weâll see her again.â he tried to remain positive to both cheer himself up and booster his spirits for Pikachu, a peaceful moment between the two of them. That is, until from out of nowhere a glass orb on the end of a robotic arm closed around Pikachu and snapped shut, plucking it from Ashâs shoulder and retracting up to the unwelcome familiar sight of a giant Meowth balloon.
âTeam Rocket!!! GIve Pikachu back right now!â Ash yelled, Pikachu already Thunderbolting the glass orb but it was already absorbing electricity as the villains laughed in amusement. âPikachu use Iron Tail and break out!â Ash commanded, the electric mouse complying but the glass wouldnât even crack, as Team Rocket finish uttering their motto and made a quick getaway. âCome back here!â Ash grunted as he ran after them, the bad guys remarking he didnât even have any other Pokemon with him to stop them from taking Pikachu, Ash stuck with what to do as Team Rocketâs balloon rapidly began getting smaller and smaller into the distanceâŠ
Sylveon tugged at Serenaâs arm and drew her attention before pointing another ribbon skyward.
And up there was⊠a sight she hadnât seen in some time. A Meowth-shaped balloon.
âN-No way⊠It canât beâŠ!â
But the familiar sound of âNya-ha-ha-ha!â confirmed it. It was Team Rocket! Here, in Sinnoh! She was pretty sure they hadnât seen her yet⊠they were too interested in whatever they had in that glass ballâŠ
âSylveon, use Swift!â
The Intertwining Pokémon lept into the air, and a flurry of star-shaped rays flew from her ribbons and towards the balloon, threatening a hard smack against them as Serena stepped out into the open.
âTeam Rocket?! Donât you guys ever learn!?â she taunted them. Sylveon stood in defense, but in the performerâs hands were the balls of Braixen and Pancham, ready to act at a momentâs notice if Team Rocket tried to do anything.
