Do you accept PurityGuyHateClub members? Because I want to join.
I liked Gwylan at first, but eh... I realized that their writing is more corruption of champion style where someone gives their OC too lengthy descriptions and railroads too much? Like temple was easy to ignore, but its kinda like giving me a bait and adding poison to it.
There are even Sans undertale moments? With wall breaking?
Like I get that he was excited, but the less is more sometimes.
I've been a very long time player and I kinda want Purity toned the fuck down. He is too much.
Anon you are so fucking real for this and we are always accepting members
Gwylan I do love but there does feel like there is something kinda lost with her since the update
One reason I absolutely do not fuck Gwylan is because all the LIs benefited and harmed the player. Like there were pros and cons for everything so it was balanced mechanically
Whitney increases your status at school (lowering your chances of getting assaulted) at the cost of your dominance and defiance / forcefully increasing your promiscuity / potentially pissing off Leighton and getting detentions / increase crime
Kylar can make you pepper sprays at the cost of your status at school decreasing (increased chance of getting assaulted) / having to be weary of having too many flirty or sexual interactions with other characters and running up his jealousy
Avery gives you money for Bailey's payments but you have to spend one of the only days you aren't busy at school to be with him, meaning you miss out on exploring / interacting with things outside of him. It's also a gamble as to how much money he gives you at first so the precious time you spent with him could've been spent earning more money then what he gives you and could fuck you over. Failure to spend time with him will result in a non con encounter and being beaten
Alex provides you a safe place from Bailey and a source of income at the cost of you pissing off Remy and getting involved with a little war
Great Hawk / The wolves / Eden all give the player a safe space to go to get away from Bailey but being gone too long can get you in trouble for skipping school + Stockholm traits + turning your PC submissive (which may not be a con to some people but it's a huge deal to me). They also abduct you for being gone too long so it's a balancing act
Robin is a quick and easy way to reduce stress and trauma by gaming with them but your payments to Bailey double
I haven't really played Sydney enough to say what the benefit of dating them is, but needing to keep your virginity in tact or else you get punished by the temple is the drawback.
I don't see the overall benefit of Gwylan. By the time I unlock them as a love interest, I don't need em anymore. Its just easier to date someone else, especially since I already like them more. Gwylan just feels overpowered to me, sorry. I liked it more when the characters made your life a little worse, actually
As someone who speedran to the Gwylan content I, personally, think that they kinda make my pc life worse in a sense that pc literally goes to jail/asylum/prison to raise their interest and romance them. And honestly, them being eh... Another horrible person who acts like a good one to gain pc trust could be an interesting angle. Or toning them down/making them more of an underdog.
But instead they are sans undertale like deity, who asks for consent most of the time but feel like that older person your friends feel uncomfortable around and is everywhere at once. Like their special item can block all the bad endings? But I dont really need it? And I dont need to go to school either? They should have either tone them down or make them weaker & more sympathetic or a bit more of a bastard. It just feels very eh.... Out of univerese? Like there is out of character and there is also out of universe?
I've only just started to interact with Gwylan in my latest run, but even before that, I had a lot of thoughts and feelings on the matter.
This is how I saw Gwylan before the update: Gwylan the shopkeeper was this small individual with mousy hair. They seemed a bit of a ditz! Things are unorganized and messy in the shop. It was hinted that Gwylan was a witch and possibly way older than they seemed. Definitely some sort of recluse, but has the occasional need for interaction so they have their shop. Lots of potential! Want to know more! They are mysterious! Why is their shop out here? How long has it been here? Potentially since the founding of the town! Not likely they played any huge role, just sort of along for the ride on the sidelines as it all happened. Someone who "was there when it all happened". I'm sure they'll come out with the content little by little and tease us on certain things and drop little tidbits and hints to string us along, and see how the players react!
How I see Gwylan now: There is no longer even an ounce of mystery. This mousy little witch is actually some deity? AND they played a HUGE role in literally everything everywhere? All of a sudden? We went from zero Gwylan anywhere, barely a greeting when entering the shop, to 1000 Gwylan in the everywhere and everything all at once. It's jarring. There's no more mystery. It's like a magician who showed you how every single trick was done at the beginning of the show before even DOING the show. Like, all of a sudden too! We went from an NNPC to a LI literally overnight.
I also share the sentiment that other LI have been sorely neglected (Whitney is my fave). When Alex's farm update happened it was a HUGE deal. Vrel said they'd wanted to finish out that area for a long time and then they could move on to focus on other aspects of the game. When Sydney was introduced I was genuinely surprised they had so much content right out the gate. A brand new LI with so much content! It was really nice, and I had high hopes that they would really flesh out all the others to round it out. But they didn't. Whitney still has a lot of unknowns. Robin seems "complete" but still feels unfulfilling. Kylar also feels like there's a lot of content missing. So for a nearly completely unknown NNPC to go from... Well, an NNPC that you can't even interact with in order to raise their heart meter, to a complete LI with full-blown EVERYTHING?
It's... A lot.
It feels like betrayal almost? Like... "I thought you knew me," kinda levels, yknow? It's like they don't even know what we want and it's all selfish and shallow. Like Gwylan was made for an eroge / graphic novel, where PC is just kinda... there. Experiencing their story. It's not our story anymore, it's Gwylan's story.
So far my interactions with Gwylan have been minimal and explorarory. I'm not completely avoiding them. But I'm not delving into their story either. I feel like I'm only using Gwylan to get certain information (right now for Wren <3). But, I'm not interested in Gwylan at all as a character anymore. Whatever whimsy and interest, along with the air of mystery I had before.. is completely gone now.
And all of that is fully outside of my feelings for PG.
Okay, so eh... This is awkward, because I do talk shit sometimes, but since the whole doxxing situation happened (was confirmed by 3rd party sources) and things got out of control instead of normal fandom freak out I want to somewhat clear the air, get it off my chest, and hope that original blog owner does not mind.
- I do think that Purity can write well, if they are given some limitations. Like IW was fire. Sydney writing is pretty solid. Great Hawk is cute and my fav. However when they get no limits Hopeless Cycle happens -- something I dislike from gaming mechanics standpoint and Gwylan. Who is fine tuned now and I hope they WOULD make them creepier at the very least. Also yeah. Not gonna lie I do not vibe with how religion works in game as of now.
- They should not have kept Gwylan a secret and just throwing them at people almost out of nowhere. Also smaller updates would have worked better and hopefully would have fixed some of their "gacha waifu" writing. I would love devs to lean into more creepy, immortal, out of this world, fae vibe Gwylan has.
- I am still "a bit" pissed at both sides. Yeah, I know what was meant. I also think that in current political climate it is the worst possible choice of words. (My government LOVES using that one, that's why it is personal issue for me).
- I am vehemently against no abortion politics in game. It is dumb. Yeah I just turn pregnancy off, but I HATE it. Also island. Fuck it. Fuck it. Fuuuuuuuuuck this shit.
- I am also against people making their personal fandom disagreements into doxxing and hate/dming someone, stalking them online or their SOs. Especially in the current political climate.
(it just got reblogged and some of my feelings on the matter changed over time)
