When Amal surprised me by telling me she named her newborn after me, I felt like part of my heart had gone to Gaza and remained there ever since.

This part of my heart is now breaking. Amal, who's been on a poor diet because she can't afford better food, is unable to breastfeed baby Mina any longer, and is unable to afford enough formula to compensate, and now both mother and baby are weak and malnourished.

Amal is suffocating from the stress of having to provide for her daughters. Her husband Motasem is doing everything he can (recently, he was almost caught in a bombing while trying to get food) but they're both overwhelmed. I wish there was anything I can do for them.

I'm begging you to donate if you can and share if you can't. I want, more than anything in this world, for these kids to grow up healthy and for their parents to be able to rest.

last year, i met two families from gaza. amal ashour (@amal-ashour-new) was one of the first people i helped to fundraise for - she's one of the kindest and wisest souls i know, and she has shown me great friendship in the year we have known each other. the other, the shehab family (@danashehab), is one full of love and warmth, who would always bring a smile to my face with kind words of affection for her family as well as my own. it was a great delight to find out that they are also family to each other

their families are fundraising together for survival. they recently regained internet access after 50 days, in which they suffered extreme hardship. they were trapped by the occupation, unable to flee, and amal's husband moatasem was injured and unable to receive care for 10 days until the ceasefire was announced. they moved south for his care, as well as for amal's care, as she is nearing the end of a pregnancy made incredibly difficult by the genocide. you can watch amal and sahar shehab tell their full story in this video.

they have a joint chuffed campaign to support their families and gain necessary funds to provide moatasem and amal with the care they need to heal and remain healthy, as well as for the survival of the rest of the family. a ceasefire may have been signed, but the suffering in gaza hasn't ended. any amount you can spare, and effort in sharing and promoting makes a difference. their verifications are listed in this post here. please, make a difference in the lives of these beautiful families - if your places were switched, they would do the same for you.

Today is Eid Al-Adha, a time of celebration for Muslims around the world. This Eid is particularly important to us, and it centers around charity. Those who have the means have an obligation to feed those less fortunate than us, to take care of those who struggle to take care of themselves.

as of june 30th, my friend Amal's ( @moatasim-ashour ) campaign hasn't received any donations for two days. not only are 12+ people depending on these funds for food, water, shelter, and necessities, but Amal is currently in urgent need of treatment for kidney stones, which she's developed as a result of the enforced scarcity of water and nutritious food. although this is a common condition, Amal and her family's circumstances are not: given the near impossibility of securing more water and a better diet due to the blockade, she needs medical care as soon as possible to avoid running the risk of developing a more severe or even life-threatening condition like renal failure or rupture. according to cedars-sinai hospital, kidney stones are among the most severe physical pain a person can experience. please don't leave Amal to weather this alone—any donation brings her closer to receiving the care she needs and being able to recover in as much peace as possible. the Ashour and Shehab families' campaign is just $501 USD from the next thousand milestone; truly anything you can do helps!

With the New Year coming, I hope everyone keeps the Shehab family (@danashehab ) the and Ashour ( @amal-ashour-new ) family in their hearts and thoughts, and continue to support them through recovering and surviving through this genocide. However, they still need our help as the Ashour family has had a new daughter, Mina, and are trying to protect and raise her from the terrible weather conditions in Gaza right now, while Amal’s husband is still injured.
