Anonymous request: Imagine coming out to the Doctor as trans

Logically, you knew the Doctor wouldn’t react badly. He regenerated and could regenerate as a woman, a fact he had no problem with. So why would he have a problem with you being trans? 

All the logical thinking in the world of course could not fully assuage your worries. You still fretted over how exactly you were going to tell him and ran through a million different ways he could react.

The Doctor knew something was up with you, but he couldn’t tell just what it was and you dodged the question every time he asked. He could see your anxieties in your tense shoulders and fidgeting and he wanted to help, but there was nothing he could do until you told him what was eating at you.

When you were finally ready, the two of you were sitting in the Tardis as you hopped across the galaxy from one planet to the next. You watched him as he walked around the controls. You decided now was the time.

“Doctor?” 

“That’s me.” He said, poking his head around the center console, giving a smile and a wave. 

“Doctor I,” you paused and looked down. The Doctor waited for you, looking at you intently but not rushing you forward. He could tell whatever you wanted to say was important. “Doctor I think, no I know I’m trans.”

“Oh! Brilliant! Thank you for telling me.” He beamed at you, glad you felt comfortable enough to tell him.

“Brilliant?” You asked.

“Yes! Brilliant that you’ve found who you’re meant to be. You’ll always be my companion, your gender doesn’t matter. You know us Gallifreyans aren’t so picky about our own, why should yours be a problem?”

“Some people-” You began.

“Oh you humans can be so petty. There’s a whole universe of people and aliens and all sorts of creatures, but another human’s gender is bothersome. Bah.” He shook his head but gave you a wink. 

“Thank you Doctor.”

“You’ve picked a new name I guess? Or have you yet? Can I help you pick? I’ve always wanted a companion named Alonzo you know. So I could say-”

“Allons-y Alonzo!” You laughed. “Yes I know. I have already picked my name. It’s [Y/N].”

“[Y/N]. That suits you.”

“I haven’t picked a middle name yet, if you’d like to help me choose that.” You offered.

The Doctor’s face lit up at your offer. He was flattered that you were including him in your process. Of course his mind was already running through ideas, some he knew you would simply laugh at, some he actually rather liked for you.

“And, perhaps some fashion advice?” You added.

“Well, I don’t know if I can be as much help there, I have showed you some of my past choices.”

You chuckled, remembering some of his, questionable, styles.

“I can take them with a grain of salt.”

“There’s centuries and galaxies of fashion in these halls, we can go through all of it.” He offered with a sweeping gesture around the Tardis.

“Excellent. A fashion show for the ages it shall be. And you’re participating Doctor.”

“Oh no, this is for you I couldn’t possibly-”

“No no, if I’m going to try on centuries of fashion, so are you. We will be handsome no matter when or where we go.”

The Doctor looked at the determination on your face and knew better than to argue. It was funny, you were already more confident, just in those few minutes since coming out. He really was so happy for you.
