Sri Guru Pranama om ajnana-timirandhasya jnananjana-salakaya cakshur unmilitam yena tasmai sri-gurave namah I offer my respectful obeisances unto my spiritual master, who has opened my eyes, which were blinded by the darkness of ignorance, with the torchlight of knowledge. (Translation: ISKCON)
Indian delights
We've been discussing mindfulness this week. Today I shared this quote with my 7th grade girls. “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them. Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud. Do not complain. Make every effort to change things you do not like. If you cannot make a change, change the way you have been thinking. You might find a new solution.” ― Maya Angelou, Letter to My Daughter
“What if our religion was each other “If our practice was our life “If prayer, our words. “What if the temple was the earth “If forests were our church “If holy water – the rivers, lakes, and oceans “What if meditation was our relationships “If the Teacher was life “If wisdom was self-knowledge “If love was the center of our being” ~ Ganga White ~
Om Namah Shivaya.
Happy Sivaratri.
On this day we invoke Siva, the creator, the destroyer, “the manifestation and emanation of transcendental, undifferentiated consciousness - the goal of all Yogis.”
People say that what we’re seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking…[W]hat we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so…that we have resonances within our innermost being and reality [and]…actually feel the rapture of being alive. - Joseph Campbell

Happy New Moon. (Photo and the below from http://www.kelleyrosano.com/2014/01/26/lively-aquarius-new-moon-super-moon/)
The Star card in the Tarot represents Aquarius. The Star guides you to your destination with the gentleness of her soft light. The Star fulfills promises and brings good fortune in general. She inspires you. The New Moon in Aquarius reminds you that you are the Star of your life. You are the Sun center of your universe. If your life is hard, look inside yourself and make the needed changes. Coach yourself. Be honest. Where are you giving your power away? What are doing that sabotages your success? The change you want to see in the world begins with you. Change your mind. You change your life. See your challenges from a different perspective. See your challenges as opportunities for growth.
Stewed Apples
Warm, nourishing breakfast or snack for the fall or winter months. Appropriate for Vata or Pitta as the fruits are cooked and easily digested.
4 peeled, cored, and sliced apples of your choice
a few dried figs, dates or apricots (soak overnight)
1/2 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger
4 cloves or small amount of dried cloves
1 cup of purified water
Place cut apples, soaked dried fruits and spices in water.
Cover pot and slowly cook until apples are soft.
Discard whole cloves.
Cool.
Savor!Â
* The Ayurvedic principles of food (ahara) suggest taking fruits separately at different times of the day. Improper food combining (virdudha-aha) may provoke indigestin, fermentation or gas formation.*

Annam Brahma raso Vishnu
pakto devo maheshvarah
evam jñaktva tu yo bhunkte
anna dosho na lipyate
The creative energy in the food is Brahma.
The nourishing energy in the body is Vishnu.
The transformation of food into pure Consciousness is Shiva.
If you know this, then any impurities in the food you eat will never become part of you.
"Meet together, talk together, let your minds apprehend alike; in like manner as the gods concurring accepted their portion of the worship. Common be the prayer of these assembled, common be the acquirement, common the purpose, associated be the desire. I repeat for you a common prayer, I offer for you with a common oblation. Common by your intention, common be the wishes of your heart, common be your thoughts, so that there be union among you.” -Final Mantras of Rig Veda, translated by Eddie Stern
