This is your friendly reminder from someone who’s still pissed that it isn’t okay to make fun of Michael about this. At all. The fact that Abigail is receiving death threats over this song isn’t okay either, but the fact that she’s receiving hate for it is completely justified. What she did was disgusting. It wasn’t a joke. She’s pretending it was a joke now, because she’s back-tracking due to the enormous negative response, but it wasn’t a joke. It was outright cruel.
She wrote an entire song about how awful she thinks Michael is. She purposely made it painfully obvious who she was talking about. She wanted him to know. She publicly mocked his appearance. Said he looks like a drug addict. Mocked things about him that he can’t change, like the scar on his forehead.
She mocked the beautiful art that he has inked onto his body. That one bothers me the most. The To The Moon tattoo is the first one Michael ever got. It’s probably incredibly meaningful to him. Not only that, but once in an interview from forever ago, the guys were asked what they were going to call their first album and Michael said “to the moon.” Before he had it done on his arm. I don’t know exactly what that phrase means to Michael but it means something, and she publicly ridiculed it. This is not feminism. This is not the kind of you-go-girl spirit that someone like Taylor Swift brings to their songs. This was just mean and vindictive, designed specifically to hurt someone.
And Michael’s tweet yesterday? Confirms what we already knew (thanks to Luke’s reaction after the fact) - that he was hurt by this. And still is. He did a wonderfully mature job in the aftermath of making jokes and throwing shade and playing it off like it didn’t bother him, but it did bother him. Just watch this interview if you’re unclear on that. Watch as his real feelings slip through the tough act he’s trying to put up because men in our culture aren’t allowed to have emotions.
I am PROUD of Michael for sending that tweet yesterday. I am proud of him for not letting her get away with thinking she didn’t do anything wrong. I am proud of him for allowing himself to be vulnerable, to say, “you know what, yeah, I laughed it off at the time, but it did hurt me.”
What Abigail did was incredibly cruel. And Michael showed incredible courage in being honest about how it made him feel. Telling him to “man up” and get over it doesn’t make you cool. It makes you a dick.
SOMEONE FINALLY FUCKING SAID IT
But here’s the thing though, we all have different opinions on how people are. Abigail could think that he’s the bitchest person in the world because that’s her opinion. We have an entirely different opinion. And the last time I checked, you weren’t getting the dick, she was. And you can’t tell her to hide her feelings. That brings stress and stress is a killer. I know he’s your fave and all, but she got to date him and you didn’t. You guys are also at fault. You can hate me I don’t care. But I’m not gonna change my opinion.
I don’t even miss My Chemical Romance as much as you missed the point of this post.
