Being at Broadripple was much less of a pain in the neck, he even started enjoying his time there. The first days were a nightmare, but not entirely. Crawling out his comfort zone was the toughest task he needed to face and although he was still struggling with that part, he noticed a small but satisfying change. He wasn’t as scared of every person he was crossing paths with and he was already beginning to form some humble friendships.

Theo would say that things turned out to be not half as bad as he imagined, however, when he was on his way to Massachusetts he had no clue what was waiting for him upon his arrival. Thanks to his parents who probably viewed him as an unforgivable sinner, leaving his hometown felt more like being sent into exile. He wasn’t missing home as much as he thought he would, that he could admit.

Having some time to kill until choir rehearsal, his steps were leading him to the library, his safe haven. He intended on doing homework, but knowing him and how prone to give in to distractions he was around books, that wasn’t likely to work out. Gripping the strap of his satchel, his pace quickened as the distance between him and his awaited destination was getting shorter. With his undivided attention directed at his target, he almost ended up bumping into another student walking down the hallway.

Coming to a halt, it took him a while to notice it was Asia. They got to chat mainly — in not only — in biology class, but sentences they had exchanged still were revolving around the subject. “Oh, hey.” In an instant his absent expression was enlivened by a courteous smile. “Where are you headed?”

Things were...well, not exactly good, nah, Asia'd be lying her ass off if she'd been saying that, but things were okay. Things were aight, for now, and that meant Asia was pretty okay, all things considered. 'Course, other things still had to be finished, Lit papers still had to be looked over, but on the whole? For once in her existence at Broadripple, she finally felt like she had the tiniest bit of breathing room. Not enough to really get excited about, nah, but enough for her to continue on her way with back held straight and head held high.

At least until she almost bumped into Theo. Yeah, that certainly wasn't as smooth, but she kept her face perfectly neutral as she nodded along to his apology, listened through his question. Even if Asia wasn't exactly in the mood to deal with people, Theo was at the very least less of a stuck-up brat than like 80% of the school's population, which meant that Asia kind of had to get along with him by default, especially when he'd been plopped into her Bio class at the start of the year. Not that was meant to be like any shade towards him, but it still remained quite sudden.

"Studying in the library," she replied back, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. A smile appeared on her lips too, if only a slight one. "And you?"

She could chit-chat. She could do anything.

Damian blinks, unsure what’s so worth brow-raising over an innocent question. He isn’t sure if he should answer or what, so he waits and thankfully patience pays off because the girl before him answers eventually and he nods. That’s all he wanted to know. Get familiarity in some way. He isn’t sure what it is about House Keough, but he’s come to find that one way or another, students from that house have a tendency to make his life difficult. He’s hoping that isn’t the case with this member.

“I’m Damian.” He decides to introduce himself despite knowing that his name isn’t an unfamiliar one around here, especially with his very public ‘incident’ not too long ago. He dusts his hand of crumbs before he extends it to her. “Whole captain thing?” He echoes her words, pressing his lips together in though a second after. Does she mean House or Swim? He’s captain of quite a few. Nevertheless, he shares that, “Well, it’s quite a responsibility but rewarding in its own right.” It certainly sums up the experience quite well in a few short words. 

“Are you interested in earning captaincy at some point?” It’s without his control that he starts thinking of this girl as captain of Keough in some imagined reality. It’s certainly unwise to judge someone off of a few short moments of knowing them, but he could definitely see Keough benefiting from her edge and playfulness in some way.

Mmm, maybe she was giving Damian a little too much credit on the whole common sense thing. Like, okay, he certainly had a little, but like, all these trust fund bishes evidently didn't know how to really keep on the down low, so maybe it was just a lil bit optimistic on her part. She was making an effort, though, reaching out, speaking out, all that inspirational-ass shit she'd spout with her heels and sash on. The parentals would've been real proud to see her acting all like this.

"Mmm, I've heard your name," Asia replied, little quirk of the lips upward. "But nice to finally talk to you." 'Course, he had to go say who he was, 'cause all of those kinds of people had to, tell them who they were, all about them, how their grandfather had died in the war or whatever, but she could smile, keep on the sort-of happy face. Did it now, did it all the time, although he seemed to think he was also overambitious and overachieving like that. Well, yeah, she wanted to do shit, and this place was meant to help her get to places that'd allow her to do that shit, but she wasn't about to go spouting off like that.

"Nah, though," she said with a rye grin. "I think they’re probably looking for people with a little more...family history."

Damian is fully aware this leisure activity won’t go unnoticed by the rest of the student body. In fact, he’s aware just how uninteresting it is and how easy it would make him a target. But luckily for the Fenwick captain, he’s related to Alexander Spencer, which means he’s more than prepared to handle a ‘friendly’ comment or two. 

“Just for an hour or two, yeah. My reward for winning Bingo,” he quips back with surprising ease, so used to the idea that someone will poke fun of him that he’s oddly prepared. It’s been brought to his attention more than once that he has a lot ‘old soul’ hobbies. It doesn’t bother him. Or rather, Alex has made fun of him so frequently for it that he hardly finds the energy in him to care at this point.

The Fenwick captain regards the girl, head to toe, wondering who she is but knowing that he’s seen her around. He knows she’s not one of Gwen’s so that means she falls into either Melleray or Keough. “Correct me if I’m wrong but you’re… one of Sofie’s…? Or Louisa’s?” He doesn’t mean to word it in that way – as if people aren’t anything but the subjects of their house captains – but when Damian is in a relaxed state, his wording tends to become a lot less polished.

On one hand, it was probably good that Damien was able to snark back. Like, not to be a bitch, but a not-so insignificant portion of the school would’ve had that shit fly right over their heads, so it was probably a positive that he got it. Probably. Even if he was still the human embodiment of white bread.

That good thought was quickly chased off after he continued talking, though.

"You asking what house I am?" Asia sniped back, not with much venom in her voice, but with a raised eyebrow all the same. Call her crazy, but it wasn't as if she really appreciated being regarded as being under someone else. Didn't have to open a history book to know the unfortunate connotations there, mmhmm, but she wasn't really in the mood for squaring up. 'Sides, he did swimming and shit, and was also a house captain and white and shit, so trying to start something now really didn't seem like a good idea. Just another stupid thing swept under the rug. Like always. But yeah, yeah, back to talking and whatever. "I'm not Sofie's anything, nah, but I am part of Keough, if that's you wanna know."

She pursed her lips, continuing to look straight down at the other guy. "How's it like, then? The whole captain thing."

Life has been rather turbulent for one Damian Fitzgerald lately. He feels as though whenever he makes a smidgen of effort in the right direction, something happens to come knocking down his already short tower of blocks. Faith, Eliza, Kat, Gwen, swimming… It’s been a while since he’s simply felt… at ease. Peaceful? So he decides to do something about that on Friday afternoon. Instead of tending to his homework once classes are over, he heads into the small kitchenette of the boys dorm and starts tearing up a slice of bread, letting it all build into a small mound in the center of his cotton kerchief. When there’s nothing but crumbs left, he claps his hands over the cloth and ties it all up, pocketing it in his blazer before he heads out into the courtyard.

It’s not the most traditional activity. Perhaps it’s even meant for someone much older than Damian, but he’s finds some peace in it. It’s not too lazy. Sure, he’s only sitting, but at least he’s doing his part to feed the friends of mother nature. The kerchief of crumbs sits carefully on the hand that rests above his thigh. Minutes come and go and he just… feeds the slow-growing flock in front of him. It’s not particularly exciting but Damian is a bit tired of things happening. They’re always just happening and happening and happening. He just wants nothing to happen for a while. For the next hour, all he can stomach is another pigeon joining the few in front of him. Just the sounds of pigeons cooing, the sprinkle of crumbs to the ground, and Damian being completely and totally unbothered.

The sun was up. The sun was shining. It rose up there, big and bright in the air like it just didn’t care. As such, Asia didn’t really care ‘bout it either. Sure, it was up, but she still had a shit-ton of work to get through, a shit ton of things to soldier on through and get done because she was not about to get her shit revoked right before she was set to go to Columbia, and so musing about ow the sun was or was not doing did not seem like an especially great way to spend her remaining time.

'Course, if she spent any more time within her dorm room, Asia felt as though she was about ready to kill a bish, and so it seemed more prudent to instead take a short walk outside to center herself. Wasn't as if she got many chances to do that back home, because like only idiots and crazy people would just go out and do that, so it made sense, she thought, taking a deep breath of some sweet sweet scentless privilege. Like, okay, maybe that was more than a smidgen rude, but over her year and almost a half here, it wasn't as if Asia had found a cause celebrè, as it were. Nothing to really grind her gears, get her going, just more and more of the same old bishes, day in and day out.

Like Damien Fitzgerald right over there. Mr. Goodie Two Shoes not so good anymore, apparently, but definitely a fifty-year old man within a teenager's body. There was no other explanation for why the hell he was feeding birds, so it'd be good to just pop by and say her things. Just courtesy.

"Hey," Asia said with a smile, looking right down on Damien. "They let you out of the retirement home?"

It was getting mighty close to the moment where Eric would just pack up his things and go back to his dorm, saving himself the wasted time sitting on the ground, his back against the wall, waiting to see if they all got the clear to proceed with swim practice or not. While he didn’t like to call people liars, the whole rabbit, bear and bone trilogy seriously needed to be laid to rest. It was just starting to get annoying. Especially when somebody thought it would be funny to call a false alarm in the pool bathrooms, alerting staff and causing nuns to flood from all directions.

The problem with a false alarm though was that while the staff searched high and low for something that didn’t exist, Eric and the rest of the swim team got to sit, locked out of the pool, missing their practice time like this prank was somehow their fault. If Eric hadn’t given so much of a shit about being in that water, he might have found the whole thing funny. Instead, he found himself wondering when it was appropriate to leave and do something else with this time because he was sure the second he got up, would be the moment all was in the clear and Fitzgerald would wave them all on inside. Besides, he was starving.

Alas, Eric proceeded to sit, bored out of his brains, and jealously watching other students pass by to their morning activities. “This sucks.” He voiced plainly. “The worst part is there isn’t even another rabbit, someone’s just being a tool.” Bold of a BBC boy to be calling anybody a tool, but here they were.

Water and Asia weren’t exactly best friends. Really, they probably weren’t even friends, more like acquaintances who once in a while said hello to each other and just tried to dance around each other ‘cause shit got awkward otherwise. Asia was cool with that relationship. Comfortable with it, even, 'cause it wasn't as if there were any pools back home for her to swim in, other than the shady public one where she was sure someone got murdered. Didn't change the fact that she was still standing around, camera 'round her neck, apparently trying to do a job that'd already gotten turned up sideways.

Well, it'd first gotten flipped the fuck around 'cause she was not the one meant to be doing this, but some bish cancelled last minute when she was meant to take photos of the swim team for practice, and so, being the responsible human being she was, Asia was here to pick up the slack. That couldn't happen, nah, not with another idiot deciding that tryna get a lough out of their idiot friends was all that important. Instead of being in there and getting shit done, she was out here, as time ticked away, as another jackass who thought he got it all goin' on was running his mouth about how bad this was.

Asia turned her head to face the guy, Emmett or whatever-everer. "And like," she replied back, verbal eyeroll seeping through her words. "You sure it wasn't one of your buddies?" Was it rude? Maybe, sure, yeah. But that didn't mean that she was spouting shit, and if it was true, she was right. And if she wasn't, whatever.

Probably deserved it anyways.

ABOUT/PERSONALITY

The daughter of an ex-con (now amateur rapper and motivational speaker) and a harried postal worker, Asia spent much of her early years under the care of her three older siblings as they tried to make ends meet in their crowded Mattapan apartment.

So, yeah, yeah, life was hard, but they got by, and Asia quickly found herself the darling of many of her teachers due to a natural gift for academics - even if her frequent backtalk meant that her standing would often rapidly shift. It was hard, but it was fulfilling, with classes like English and Social Studies the ones where she was most able to put forth her passion.

So, Asia’s life continued like this, pretty chill and all, until her father ended up becoming the victim of a drive-by shooting because one of this former rivals back when he was in the game decided to try and take him out once and for all. This wasn’t fatal, thankfully, but it did result in the hospital bills stacking up, and with only one reliable income source, Asia and her siblings had to turn to an...unconventional way of making money.

PAGEANTS. While an off the wall choice, Asia’s competitive nature lent itself quite well to the world of pageantry, although she chafed under the regulations as well as the experiences of girls with much more wealth than hers. She applied herself diligently, though, and found herself coming third at Miss Teen Massachusetts at 15 years old. This, combined with her exploits in debate, helping her underfunded high school gain prominence state-wide in competition, helped convince her parents that she would flourish in a more competitive environment, and so it was with heavy persuasion that they convinced her to apply for a scholarship to Broadripple for the start of junior year - and she has been there since.

Not that she’s exactly enjoyed her time here, though. Sarcastic and honestly somewhat rude above all else, Asia generally doesn’t have too much fondness for her fellow students, viewing them as either spoiled trust fund kids or people with egos bigger than their brains. Generally approaches all situations with a layer of snark, but if you break through, you’ll find a reliable friend. Still not a super pleasant one, though.
