mythology aesthetic ★ – — thanatos and hypnos ( greek )
and there the children of dark night have their dwellings, sleep and death, awful gods. the glowing sun never looks upon them with his beams, neither as he goes up into heaven, nor as he comes down from heaven. and the former of them roams peacefully over the earth and the sea’s broad back and is kindly to men; but the other has a heart of iron, and his spirit within him is pitiless as bronze: whomsoever of men he has once seized he holds fast — and he is hateful even to the deathless gods.
favorite mythological relationships ♦ – — fenrir, skoll, and hati ( norse )
fenrir, a monstrous wolf who is tricked into being bound by a forged chain presented to him as a game by troubled gods who deem him a threat, goes on to father skoll and hati, two wolves who continuously chase sol and mani through the sky in hopes of devouring them one day. it is said that they will finally succeed at ragnarok, throwing the world into darkness and disarray.

aleaghxla:
— “Is that true?” She can’t help but ask, unfamiliar with that particular saying. None of her people have ever said such a thing, luck rarely playing a part in determining their fate. “I thought we determined our fate … but perhaps I was wrong. I did overhear a woman tell another that Lady Luck is smiling down on her … ” At the time, she questioned it — but if those dice really did have something to do with it …
“it’s just speculation at this point,” sin said, shaking the hand with the dice in it — as if to imitate the beginning point of the roll. “lady luck, you say?” he tsked resignedly, then casually pocketing the dice, he offered the dark-haired woman a knowing look. “makes sense, if you think about it. women can be such ... contrary creatures.”
potniaxtheron:
“Fate can be … complicated,” were the first words out of her mouth. The Moirai were once known for playing with people’s lives. She doubted that had changed much even if the sisters were longer in charge of fate. “Certain things do happen that are out of our control, but I’m still of the impression that we, for the most part, determine our own fate … What about you? What do you think?”
“you said it.” he glanced toward the cloudless sky, a placating expression gracing his features. “she said it, not me!” he called out to the entity titled fate, amusement coloring his tone. because if anyone should accept the punishment of dubbing it complicated, it should be the one who’d said it in the first place.
then, dark gaze returning to the pretty woman’s face, his smile turned a shade boyish, and he shrugged. “me? i’m on the fence about it. on the one hand, i like being in control. but on the other hand, it’d be nice to have something to blame when the decisions i’ve made lead to disastrous results.”
“some people say your luck is determined by the roll of the dice.” his fingers closing around the dice he nearly always kept on hand, a crooked half-smile grazed his lips. “what do you think? is our fate determined by these tiny, insignificant things?”
impavidcs:
❛ THERE IS NOTHING REMOTELY BEAUTIFUL ABOUT SIN, ❜ He counters soberly, absently placing folded arms on top of the table as he considers the stranger’s word with all the seriousness they are due — but then he forces a congenial half-smile for the sake of politeness. ❛ AND YET IT STILL MANAGES TO SLITHER ITS WAY INTO EVERY SITUATION IT CAN, ❜ If anyone would know, Achilles would — or at least he likes to think so.
He doesn’t know what to make of that last comment. Is he being serious, or is that not meant to be taken with a grain of salt? ❛ WAS THERE EVER A TIME WHEN SUCH A THING WORKED? ❜ As a warrior, a winsome smile was rarely part of his armory.
“so you say — but the thousands upon thousands of sinners will tell you otherwise,” he replied with a casual shrug, not at all bothered by the man’s dour personality and even dourer outlook on life. “and why do you suppose that is?” sin cocked an eyebrow, finding that he enjoyed conversations of this nature. “maybe that’s because sin is in such high demand.” and in a city regaled for its nightlife and entertainment, was it really that surprising? “but fret not! for every sinner, there is a saint.” they just weren’t as much fun.
“for me? always,” he added, flashing a winsome smile for added effect. “for you? not so much.” but would a smile every now and then kill mister dour-faced?
unseeliexlinnea:
“Few people would disagree with you if the opportunity presented itself.” She was one of them. She’d found over the years that she was more capable of getting what she wanted done if she let others lead and persuading them to take her opinions as her own. Her gaze followed his to the bottle, and responded, “If I can make it back to my hotel room. Though I might get distracted.”
only the fools would, and contrary to popular belief — deity belief — not every mortal harbored a fool within. some could be downright cunning and smart when the situation called for it. “the way i see it, you’re your own person. no one has the right to try to control that ... or you.” gods know, the mortals tried. being under their thumb, while not the worst experience he’d ever endured, had wracked up there pretty high on the list of never-again’s. “need help? i would hate the thought of you distracting yourself right into the back of some nutcase’s car.” and since they’d shared a few words, he didn’t feel right leaving her to her own devices.
