40 Shades of Rihanna

Hi Friend,

By now you’ve heard about Rihanna’s new makeup line called Fenty Beauty, all the reviews, the not so subtle shade from MakeUP Forever and other makeup brands scrambling to show their not so diverse foundation shade range.

Fenty Beauty took broke the internet with their 40 shades, their famous highlighter ‘Trophy Wife’, and their contour and highlighter that some have said that is how KKW Beauty should have done it.

Fenty Beauty has broken the lame excuse that many makeup brands have stated “Women of a darker shade don’t buy makeup” by selling out their darker shades as soon as they hit the shelves. Not only does Fenty Beauty cater to the complex ethnic shades but also caters to the lighter shades that aren’t overly popular.

Now, getting my hands on the product is another task on it’s on …

Human Crush: Tsakisani Mondlani

Hey Friend,

Aaahh social media, a place for memes, fake news and people whose pages scream goals. A lot of us have #WomanCrushWednesdays or #ManCrushMondays whether we know the person or not. We’re inclusive here friend so I bring a segment called Human Crush Day because we can appreciate anyone at time if we want to.

Our very first Human Crush is Tsakisani Mondlani, South Africa’s very own Golden Barbie.

Tsakisani is a 19 year old fashion and food blogger from Pretoria, she is currently a student at the University of Cape Town.

I started following Tsakisani during the days of #follow4follow on Instagram and watching her page grow has been one of those moments when you can’t help to be proud of a person as though they’re your child. Her Instagram page boasts with colour and has great balance of fashion, food, lifestyle and interior design – it’s a break away from the white feed that is dominating Instagram.

Tsakisani’s Instagram page embraces her individuality and shows us as her followers a glimpse of her personality by not being another white theme Insatgram page. Through this she has been able to work with brands such as Cotton On Africa, Edgars, various restaurants and clothing brands. Her blog (and Instagram) has pictures of amazing quality and shows us how she views the world, from a different perspective.

She’s our first Human Crush, not because her Instagram and blog are goals or how her life, she is our first Human Crush as she embodies what I want you to have friend, individuality – being okay with being yourself.

My Anime Goal

Hey Friend,

I love to experiment with different makeup trends in the comfort of room where nobody can see, so when I buy makeup products they never stay true to their original use – there’s always add-ons.

The Mac Chestnut lip pencil is one of those special products for; not only do I use it as a lip liner but I treat as a lip shade and a product that allows me to do the faux freckles trend that I’ve been really into.

I’ve been watching a lot of anime and I drew inspiration from one of the shows to create this look. 

When using the pencil to create the faux freckles, you have to accept that you won’t have absolute control on the size of the freckles. However, you get to control how dark they are and obliviously where you place them. Babe, if you’re like me and you’re always touching your face, please spray setting spray when you’re done… I looked like a hot mess after a while but obviously I didn’t take pictures of that (always have to look good for the internet).

As I said before, I used the lip pencil as a shade for my lips – I put the product over my entire lip and put a lip balm on top to give the look a sheer finish. Don’t use lip gloss cause the colour will move and it might make it sticky (learnt that the hard way).

What I love about lip pencils (this goes for many makeup products too) is that they are really what you make them and there are endless opportunities in terms of use.

I really want to be your friend

Isn’t it fascinating how our first encounter is through a brightly lit screen, all thanks to the wonderful yet dark world that is the internet. In all honesty, this screen lessens my nervous, since I’ve decided to put myself in this vulnerable position.

Okay, enough with the rumbling let me pitch myself to you as to why I should be your friend. Why we should be friends and have a somewhat trusting relationship.

Besides us having common interests (fashion, beauty, food, music, art and traveling), we all honestly have friends because we need people who are on our side through the roller coaster of life, people to give us advice and most importantly make sure we always put our best foot forward (well at least 50% of the time). And I can give that to you and so much more. How? Well advice comes from a place of experience, knowledge and a love that no-one can truly describe; advice on fashion trends, DIYS, where to shop, beauty, amazing food spots, music, art and how to scratch that wanderlust itch.

We’re all discovering ourselves (heck people at 50 are doing it too), and I hope this little digital haven I’ve created for you will inspire you to discover yourself with no limits. I really want you to be okay with learning, loving and being you. I really want to be your imaginary friend with a physical to it, that you can access at any time.
