“I was able to get the egg back to the Hatchery, and it has been doing well, but it was only when I arrived did I realize the problems I would run into with this new body.”

I couldn’t believe what had happened. We never spoke a word to each other, but I could see a mix of emotion in her eyes; I could see trust, anger, disappointment, and foremost -- fear. I couldn’t quite understand why until I saw it.

A lone egg, laying just outside the nest, wrapped in a human garment. 

I quickly tried to yell after them, but when I looked back up to find them, all I saw were the dark clouds. 

In that moment I realized that the mother must have been aware of how often I visited them, and she took it upon herself to trust me with something more important than her life -- her unborn child.

I knew I couldn’t leave the egg there by itself. So much harm could fall upon the poor child, I had to take it with me. “At least until the parents return after the storm,” I told myself. I should have known better...

When I woke, I found my body transformed into a Ninetales, just like my Queen. My thoughts spun out of control in an attempt to suddenly adjust to what had happened.

I suppose I have the child to thank for me to snap back to normal. I was able to temporarily forget what happened and focus on the egg. Who knew it could happen so fast...

But I didn’t feel jealous of this mother. Instead, I was almost proud of her. A stranger experiencing such bliss, I couldn’t help but be happy for her, just like every other parent that comes through the hatchery.
