@ask-burgerworkers
For every 💭 I receive, I will write one thought my Muse has had about yours.
Skye rarely went out to fast food joints, but today was an exception. She walked through the doors and went to the closest worker possible. "Could I have two burgers, please?" She asked, they weren't for herself, she just wanted to give her father figure something in return. - @ask-fortnite-skye
Sizzle poked her head up from behind the counter when she heard Skye enter. Since their move to the new island, they hadn’t received as much traffic as usual, but that never kept her off her feet. Upon seeing Skye, her cheeks turned a light shade of pink, but she immediately got to her order.
“Coming right up!” she chirped in a cheery voice.
Upon seeing the other girl, she quite literally perked up. It was rare to see others around her age on this island, too bad she probably wouldn’t see the other often. “O-oh uh- Thanks.” She choked on her words, her own cheeks going a light shade of red.
As she waited patiently for Skye’s order to be prepared, she tapped her fingers along the counter anxiously. Peering around to check if she was clear, she leaned over the counter.
“What’s your name?” She asked suddenly but excitedly. She equally had never seen someone so close to her age on the island, and had really never met one either.
She waited, her gaze looking around the building. There was a lack of people, wasn’t this supposed to be one of the most populated food joints?
“My name’s Skye.” She responded, finally looking back to the other. “What about you..?”
Sizzle’s face lit up at her own question being returned, even if it was the most logical followup.
“My name’s Saria! Saria Ross! Though, most people call me Sizzle. It’s a nickname I picked up from working here! I’ve been working here a long time. But I’m okay with it-” she suddenly cut herself off.
“I’m sorry. I talk too much.”
Skye was enjoying the other ramble, it reminded her of a few people she knew. She herself, used to continue talking without no stop, so she really didn’t mind. “Oh it’s okay.” She smiled at her. “I do the same a lot-… How long have you been working here for?” Skye suddenly asked, curious. She’d been working at the agency little under a year, and she was only 15.
“I’ve been working here for about-” She started counting on her fingers, although it didn’t seem like she was actually properly counting anything. “Six months! …I guess it isn’t as long as I thought. But it’s felt like forever!”
She continually peered behind her to check for the progress on Skye’s order. It was taking an unusually odd time, but she was okay with that, mainly because it meant she got to talk to Skye longer.
Skye hadn’t noticed how long it had been taking, but she wasn’t exactly complaining. She got to talk to someone new, so that’s that.
“How’d you even get into a job like this so young..? Is it like… family business?” She paused a couple of times, trying to get her words outright. No education was rough on her vocabulary at times, but she could work it out.
Sizzle didn’t seem to mind Skye’s pauses at all and waited patiently for her to finish her sentences.
She nodded no, “The working permit on the old island was 15. That’s how old I was when I started working. I don’t know if it’s different here, but I suppose it doesn’t matter now.”
“So.. you’re older than 15?” She didn’t even mean to ask so many questions, but her curiosity got the best of her. “I have a job because I pestered someone too much.” Skye sighed. “Don’t even do it for the pay either-”
“I turned 16 about three months ago,” Sizzle explained, “But I don’t think a lot has changed.”
“Oh, I don’t do my job for the pay either. Well- somewhat- part of it is to support my parents. The other part is just because I love it here so much.” She paused, “Do you like your job?”
She thought for a moment, she had mixed feelings for the agency.. Was it the best idea to tell Sizzle where she worked?
“I guess..? My job helped me from not being homeless, but I don’t exactly fit in well-”
Sizzle frowned out of empathy. She grabbed Skye’s hands into hers gently and looked into her eyes.
“I know how it feels. Like I said, I started working here to help my parents… A lot of my coworkers find me annoying, but that’s alright, I suppose.”
She flinched at the sudden contact, letting her guard down was one thing she tried to avoid but sometimes it got the best of her. “I-…Me too honestly.. The other agent-” She cut herself off. “The.. others tend to get annoyed at me too-” Skye sighed.
Immediately as Skye flinched, Sizzle let go. She guiltily brought her hands up to her chest
“I’m sorry. I know how it feels. It’s hard being one of the only teenagers on the island, isn’t it?” she smiled softly.
Skye nodded, returning a slight smile back at Sizzle. “Yeah, but it’s okay at times- Not the worse thing ever-” Well, that was kind of a lie.
“At least it’s not all bad.”
Sizzle turned behind her as one of her coworkers handed her the bag of Skye’s food. She frowned for a moment, but then her face lit up.
“Here-” she grabbed a napkin and a pen from inside her apron and scribbled on it for a moment, then tore a portion of it off and slipped it into the bag.
“It’s my phone number! Call me if you ever feel like it, I’ll answer as soon as possible, okay?”
She watched whilst she scribbled on the napkin, tilting her head a little bit. The action was foreign to her, people either had her phone number or they didn’t.
“Oh- Thank you.” She smiled. “Yeah, I’ll make sure to once I get back- got to give these to friends first though.” Skye giggled a slight bit.
“I’ll see you round?”
Sizzle nodded excitedly, her cheeks turning a bright shade of pink.
“Of course! It was lovely to meet you.” She contemplated hugging Skye, but considering her reaction to hand holding earlier, she refrained, not wanting to risk scaring her off.
