[[My mother's cancer came back- and in a much worse location- so the last few months have been very scary for all of us. But thankfully as of two days ago, she's cancer free AGAIN! It's a little difficult to explain, but the TL;DR is that it was the same type of cancer, she just had growths that persisted through the first rounds of treatment because they were past the blood-brain barrier. So once the docs switched her medication, they were successfully treated! She's in recovery mode at the moment, and we're going into preventative treatments now since there's always a chance it could come back again in the future, but she has 0 signs of cancer present atm and we're optimistic things are looking good. At the same time, though, my cousin has been in and out of the hospital a bunch these last few weeks, and my 90-year-old grandfather just threw out his hip for like the seventh time because my grandma refuses to do anything she doesn't want to even if it means helping him, driving all of us nuts. I'm too polite to scream at them but god I want to.]]

[[Work has been a mix of stresses, with my day job transferring me to a new area I had to learn from the ground-up, but ultimately I'm glad they did shift me over, because the area I was in just a month ago was grinding me into dust. For my side job as a comic line-artist, work has been picking back up on that front, so my art spoons have been going more towards my paid art than my Fun Art, which I'm hoping to balance nicely again soon ^^]]

I'm probably not ready to return to regular updates yet- real life has been pretty solidly kicking my ass, in many ways. My spoons have been teasing at dropping into the negatives- but I'm itching so much to get back into the crew, believe me!

So uh... did anyone do autopies on the corpses? (This is strictly because if Cyan was right, it shouldn't be impossible to find out, right? Not saying she lied but people... tend to make mistakes.)

[Red starts sweating when you mention this.]

Red: "Well- uh- yes... and no."

[Red fidgets, looking a bit nervous.]

Red: "See- when the whole event went down, and Cyan turned herself in, there was only so much we can glean from the individual bodies. Since we're trying to keep the whole 'one of our crew is an impostor now' situation on the down-low to not alert too many people high up in the association, the number of people we can reach out to for assistance in this matter are limited. The only people outside of our floor who we've told are select staff on the floor directly below us, for security reasons. As the crew doctor on the top floor, I'm the closest thing we have to a mortician and crime scene investigator. And the big problem with most impostor kills is..."

Red: "...there's really not much left behind. Impostors target the head, and often consume the entire upper half of the body, where the vitals are and the killing blow was dealt. The less there is remaining of the corpse, the harder it is to parse out the facts. The most I can glean from the remains is a few select bits of information. One- Blue died first, at least a day prior to Orange, maybe longer. Two- both victims were eaten, as the torso regions are severed via... teeth marks."

(there was a scene of when they were younger, and it got me curious)

Cyan: "...I do. My former family set back on Ania was very supportive, though the kids who grew up with me have all split off into their own circles by now. We don't really keep in touch. If you mean direct family, then..."

Cyan: "My parent, Teal, and our Cycat, Buggy. Teal is an engineer and physicist for the MIRA outpost on the Anian moon colony. I haven't sent them any messages since... you get the idea."

Red: "Technically, it's hard to give an example, since cuss words in our tongue don't really translate well? Hence why they come out like garbage noise- the Universal Translator can't find a single-word equivalent in your native languages for almost all of them. It's also considered impolite to swear profusely around total strangers, so we don't do it very often when on interstellar missions- at least until we get comfortable around new colleagues. Ever since we encountered humans, however, they seem to love engaging in behavior that incites our people to curse- for example, picking us up like children or toys. That's extremely demeaning, and most Beans would bark at them for it."

[Red snickers, despite themselves.]

Red: "I get it. We're 'cute' to you tall folk. Apparently that's WHY humans keep doing it. I've been told we sound like 'angry electronic squeaky toys' when we yell. It wasn't until I was shown a video comparison to pitched-up Cydog pup barking that I understood why it was so funny to them. And... Captain may not be very happy with me for that, buuuuuut..."

[Red looks around, before quickly and quietly turning off the translator in their MIRApad.]

[When they talk in untranslated Beantongue, it sounds like a brief set of electronic signals in varying tones with mostly high pitch.]

[Red turns their translator back on.]

Red: "That word was- I guess the closest phonetic translation for you humans would be 'kah-soh'? In short, to call someone a 'kosso' is to call someone 'baby-handed', or 'small-handed'. A grave insult in the workplace, that mostly says they're so incompetent that they might as well have baby hands, aheheheh~"

Hey Cyan!, sorry for disturb and scare you. But can I ask you an one simple question?

[Cyan ignores you for a little while. She studiously cleans the stains from her uniform and person, wringing out the towel into the sink once in a while. Over time, her suit loses the red, as the towel gains splotches of crimson tint. She rinses it out in the sink, causing streaks of red pigment to stream down the drain.]

Cyan: "...overpowered?"

[She ruminates on her answer as she cleans the mess, and chooses not to comment on the fact you so brazenly approached her in the bathroom.]

Cyan: "Compared to my fellow crewmates? Yes. Naturally. That's what makes impostors so deadly. We're built to 'overpower', to hunt, and their- our 'prey' is my family set. I won't stand for it. So, I hunt them instead. As for myself compared to other impostors... I don't know. MIRA's records on them are sparse, and I've been lucky to have only encountered very few imps in person. But I've killed them both, if that answers your question. Satisfied? Does trivializing my struggle make you feel better?"

[You have successfully infiltrated the top floor of MIRA HQ. It seemed ludicrously easy- no mandatory scanners or weapon checks. It's like they just expect you to slip in and eat as much as you want!]

[Your plan is already formulating in your mind as you slink through the vents, quiet as a moormouse. Like sitting at a hole in the ice, a polar bear waiting for a seal to pop its head out for air, all you need to do is be-]

"You smell of blood."

[...]

[What happens next is swift, brutal, and silent.]

[MIRA's top floor will, in a few days' time, discover the leftover stains and quietly clean up the mess, reporting the incident.]

Ŏ̶̱͍̝R̸̯̈́Ă̶̡͈̰͑͘N̸̬̙͉̆̉̈G̴͇͍̎̒̌E̸͉̰̋͘͘: "Cyan is an impeccable hunter. Even though I couldn't sway her to hunt alongside me, at least she continues being the deadliest organism I've ever seen. An apex predator that hunts other predators."

[You do not get an opportunity to say anything else, as reactive instinct kicks in.]

[Cyan springs out of the vent like a spooked animal, scrabbling for purchase on the tile floors for a second. When she gets her bearings again, having been badly startled by the unexpected entrance to her personal space, she shoots back to the vent entrance and yanks it open.]

[When she peers down into it, the vent is empty. She looks confused and frustrated.]

Cyan: "WHAT THE $#@% WAS THAT. How was someone else in the vents?! Do we have a new engineer?? If- if that was an impostor- why didn't I smell blood??"

[Angry and feeling blind-sided, she slams the vent shut again, pulling up Purple's number to send a possible security alert.]

[Cyan has exited the vents.]

Cyan, it… look. [sitting by the vent] Yes, you killed Orange. But it sounds like Orange would’ve done so much worse if kept alive. You kept your crew safe, even though it made everyone nervous. No matter what happened to you, bo matter what you were turned into, you protected your friends. And I think that’s pretty admirable, tbh

[...Cyan lets out a long sigh, even as she stubbornly remains mostly hidden in the vent.]

Cyan: "...your words are kinder than I deserve. I wasn't really... acting on noble intentions, when I did what I did. Admittedly I can't remember a lot of it, besides the deep anger. But I can't do anything about it, now, so... I guess sometimes intentions aren't important, as long as good is done. I only wish my companions felt the same."

[Mod: Hey ya'll! Sorry for the long silence- as mentioned before, I was dealing with the family health scare, and the serious diagnosis we were faced with. I'm happy to announce that things have gone from the scariest possible news, to the BEST possible news, and my family member is, as of a few days ago, free of the diagnosis <3 Once again, I'll put details under the cut if you're curious, but don't worry about it.]

[My mother was diagnosed with aggressive B-cell lymphoma, which we only discovered because she went in for what we thought was an extremely painful kidney stone- I'm talking "couldn't walk or sleep because the pain was so intense". The x-rays showed us that she didn't just have lymphoma in her abdomen, it was also around her lungs, causing breathing problems. It was spread pretty far throughout her body. But now, after six months of chemo and lots of heartache and money spent on treatments, a blood and bone marrow test told us that she's cancer free ;w; My mother was such a trooper, and she recently had surgery to remove the kidney stone she DID actually have on top of all of this. There's always the chance the cancer might come back, at some point in the future, and it's something we need to be vigilant of going forward. But these test results we just got couldn't be better, and I'm so happy and relieved. <3]

OOC: Update!

[Mod: Wanted to put up a text post since it's been a while-

Blog isn't dead! I have 50 asks (literally) in my inbox that I'm going to work through in time, I promise I haven't forgotten any xD There's a few quick answers in progress as we speak.

Let's just say... big plans are being made, and big things are coming :)c I have a couple larger update posts being planned and sketched out~

I'll be putting my personal life update under the cut, if you're curious. Don't click the readmore if you don't want to deal with heavy subject matter.]

[So... part of the reason I've been so slow on posting ask replies or any updates is because things have been rough at home. My immediate family received a very grim diagnosis for one of us, and it's been hitting us all very hard. My siblings flew home from out of state in order to be together and process this. The situation isn't dire yet, but it's not something you ever want to hear from a doctor to begin with. We've been taking this family member in and out of doctor appointments and surgeries for the better part of a month, now, and it's been very taxing on our emotions and mental health. We're all sad and scared, and wishing for the best while emotionally preparing for the worst. The treatments they've been dealing with so far have made it difficult for the affected family member to eat and sleep, and we've been helping them as much as we can. Needless to say, updating the blog kinda fell by the wayside, while we figure out a plan moving forward.

Again, blog isn't dead! I have a lot of ideas I want to put on paper, so to speak- it's just been very hard to find the energy, when I have to balance a full time day job with caring for a family member. Thank you for understanding and being patient with me <:)

[A sigh escapes the grate. Then the grate cover lifts with a faint creeeeeeeak. Cyan's hands emerge and pick up the tray of nuggets first.]

[Somber, Cyan-tist starts to eat the offered snacks from the visiting Cyan, Grey, and Black.]

"...thank you for the kindnesses you've given me. I- frankly I still don't understand why you're all being so nice to me. You don't really know me- and I don't really know what I'm capable of. I could snap one day and just-... never mind. I'll be sure to try all of these in due time. I don't know if I have the stomach, tonight, but I've been hungry enough to eat a Folorian horse, lately. I'll get to it. From what I can tell, the preferred foods of impostors are proteins of any kind, but fatty meats and other high-fat content foods are craved the most."

[Cyan throws the Black Bean nearby a skeptical glare.]

"I appreciate you trying to make me feel better- but I'm aware I'm one-in-a-million. Protecting my crew is my priority. I intend to use what I know, what I can learn, to help keep them safe. But I won't fool myself into thinking I can trust any other impostors. There are no records I know of impostors that don't turn on their own families to make meals out of easy prey, giving in to the instinct to hunt. I can't even rule myself out. My case is unique. I just have to hope it doesn't come to that."

Cyan: "Oh my stars- a real live kina urchin!! I heard these are a delicacy when cooked, though they're overpopulated- I can't believe there's one here! Its colors are beautiful, so many rows of ambulatory spines! I'll need to look up what it eats- the storage container is also a bit small, could use an expanded-"

[Cyan stops short, realizing in this moment exactly what she's done, and why she's suddenly holding a jar. That doesn't belong to her.]

Cyan: "Oh @%$# I'm so sorry- I don't know what came over me. I got really excited hearing what you said... do you mind if I borrow this, for study? You can say no, of course, but I'll give it back when I'm done!"
