But im also sorta here to talk abt Ph-Ame relations?? at least my thoughts relating to it. this is just a ph-ame ramble thing
quick note: “Bobo ka” is “You stupid” in Tagalog, a language in the Philippines. Is it wrong? maybe. “Fefe” is Alfred’s designated Pinoy Nickname(tm). Does it sound anything like Alfred? No. That’s exactly the point.

I do know I’ve touched on this before in an ask, but it’s horribly outdated and makes me cringe cause I didn’t even scratch the surface of what I think their relationship is like lmao I’m going to admit, this is partially being made to clear my conscience because w o a h its bad. Now that I think about it, it’s sort of a weird split between Alfie being (one of) Phil’s best friends yet worst enemies, cause of course- there’s no denial that America had its influence on the country in the span of 5 decades, a large population of the country speaks English, fast food? love it. 10/10. The Philippines has even been one of the oldest Asian partners the USA has and is very pro-american. This sort of history thing is why I imagine that Phil would really like Alfred, coupled with some things relating to his own character.
Though there is also the flip side- yanno, at the end of the day, the Philippines was a colony, and there’s a 0% chance he got out of there absolutely fine. I think we all know that the USA in the past had a pretty interesting time with southeast asia, and the PH wasn’t exempt. I’m not going to go into the grittier details of what happened between them just yet, but here’s a quick fact; apparently the Philippine-America War can be called “The First Vietnam”, in some resources I’ve read.
Besides that war, there’s some ways that the USA has made its mark culturally in some Pretty Bad ways, which is a conversation for another day. But a small snippet from my own personal experience; English, a colonizer’s language, is/has been favored over languages that actually originated from the Philippines. Education and such are all taught in English, not in Tagalog. Like I said, just a snippet, and the trauma originating from American colonization does stretch more deep.
But I digress, back to Phil - as I’ve stated, he definitely didn’t come out of this perfectly fine, and he certainly has a couple of grudges up his sleeve against Alfred from various points in history. I don’t have this side of their relationship fully mostly because I don’t know how to explain that yet lmao but there’s. /lots/ of mixed feelings from Phil’s side stemming from severely contradictory opinions and things he knows. His admiration for Alfie is sort of a double edged sword - on one hand, there’s that amazement on how much he’s grown as a country in just roughly 3 centuries, but then there’s that underlying feeling of envy that absolutely plagues Phil each day that’s stumped his growth in self esteem (which was kinda bad to begin with, something I’ll prolly cover in another post lmao) that’s sometimes drove him to be “more like America” in small ways. Of course, it’s not as bad as he was back then, especially under American rule, and he’s come a long way in trying to shake off those ideals, but the road is still long for him.
Currently working on an updated relations sheet for ezequiel but also I’m revising my knowledge on certain relations (esp with the USA because h’oh boy) but meanwhile, here’s a weird thing that I remembered in the back of my head vaguely: for some reason. I have a memory reading abt how the philippines could’ve been renamed to the macarthur/mckinley islands?? And I don’t know why. where did this information come from.
I’m going to admit I’m not really good with deciding relations with historical figures akjfadjfn sorry
With some of the research I’ve done and can comprehend- I’m going to say that Eze didn’t know Rizal personally, but, especially after the revolution and Propaganda Movement, Rizal is one of the people he looks up to and is sure as hell thankful for the books he wrote!

ello everyone!! Sorry for the severe inactivity on my end ajkfnaksld mostly has to do with procrastination and also struggling to get any major inspiration to work on anything for a past while, but I’m feeling ~spicy~ rn so I’m going to try and kick this up a bit! Just some things i wanna say:
I’m currently revamping(? sorta?) phil right now, as in rereading my sources for PH history and sticking them into a doc so I both have his information as a character but also sources for history lmao
I’m going to make a proper promo... eventually...

*During the 19th century, there came a rise of Filipino nationalism which started the Propaganda Movement. Here, groups of Filipinos called for changes, and this movement was mostly lead by the national hero José Rizal. Rizal wrote two novellas; Noli Me Tángere (Touch Me Not) and El filibusterismo (The Subversion), wanting to cover Filipino society and call out corruption from the Spanish colonists.
The Philippines is one of the most biodiverse places in the world and has had some of the highest discovery rates in recent years. I feel like he’d really like discovering foreign species, etc of plants and animals! It’s really interesting to him how they adapt to fit their surroundings to thrive in them!
Also, here’s a lil bonus where I talk about an important animal native to the philippines:
The Carabao!
The Carabao is a water buffalo native to the Philippines (which eventually got introduced to Guam) and essentially the unofficial national animal of the country! It’s an animal very important to the agricultural factor of the economy and historic times where the Carabao population declined had even hurt the economy badly (the more recent time was when the Japanese attacked the country and tried killing the carabao population).
