I am Elurin, Hello

I am Elurin, brother of Eluréd and Elwing. I suppose most of you would not know my brother and I, given we were long since thought dead. In short, we are not. The birds and beasts of the forest guided and protected us until we were found by some kind Wood Elves and they took care of us. We have recently found this...blogging thing and after some suggestion have decided to share some of ourselves on here. In that light. I am Elurin, the younger of us. I am the twin of Eluréd, of course, an I like birds. Therefore this 'blog' shall find itself with various images and tidbits of birds. I train them you see, for hunting and to be companions. Please feel free to ask me what you will

As he searched deeper in the matter, he understood that Imladris, the same place which housed the two Noldo elves he most detested, was in danger of attack. Elurin sent a soft smile to his eldest nephew before he leant back in the chair, crossing his arms and legs before he sighed. "I am..unsure. I too was approched. The dragon promised me all the birds. Every flock would be mine. I have to admit, that is a highly tempting prospect." He mused, taping his fingers agaisnt his upper arms

"On the other hand...they are not to be trusted. That much is obvious." He pursed his lips in thought. There is always the option to do nothing. let the two wipe themselves out and then we clean up." He said slowly, brow furrowing faintly. Anarin would be lost if that happened and he had grown to like the little Sindarian. 

He glanced over at Kalanor as he piped up. "It would be unfortunate should Imladris fall swiftly, where as a combined force could stand." Elurin nodded slowly, foot twitching a little. "True..."

That is a seahorse *smiles* It does indeed live in the water, yes, but usually in deeper areas so they can be hard to see. They are rather unique, if I may be as bold as to say so.

A seahorse..? Can you ride it? What sort of waters? It is so…interesting! Look at it’s curly tail and the colors it has! *fascinated forever*

*Laughs* Nay, you cannot ride it! It rarely grows larger than fourteen inches, so it would be rather difficult to attempt it. As for the sort of waters, I think it varies… usually in more temperate ones, though, but I have not studied them very closely so I do not know much. There used to be a small colony not far from my home, but I do not know what happened to it.

So tiny it is! They live in colonies? I wonder if perhaps there may be some along the shores of the oceans near our homes....I will have to send the little ones on a hunt. Are they all so colorful?

It wasn't unheard of for any number of little ones to be helping him with his flock. It was large and required much tending after all. Having many hands to help feed the birds was more then welcome and he enjoyed passing his craft on. The birds were his children as he had yet to find anyone of his own to be with.

He did not envy his brother though, far from it. He loved being the uncle to so many. Uncle was the perfect relative. Close enough to spoil them but far enough that he rarely got called on to babysit. Not until they were old enough to be far past the diaper stage at any rate. He had done that once. Never again

He could feel his twin calling for him through their bond and smiled faintly, telling those working with him to keep minding the birds. There were broken feathers to pluck, feed dishes to be filled and then the fledglings needed to be checked over for blood feathers. That was all things his current group of helpers could manage.

He could guess what it was about. Imladris. His nephews where there. As well as great-nephews even for he heard tell one of them had twins of his own. Anarin was there as well. Despite the scribes poor choice of lover, he was a sweet gentle soul that seemed to be doing a rather good job taking care of the lost bird.

Along the way, he stopped to speak to many of his brother's brood. Pregnant bellies were stroked, little girls chins were tickled and little boys got their hair ruffled. He soothed a few worried of newly married and new mothers. 

By the time he reached his brother, he was the last to arrive. His family was large, so large. But were they large enough to defend should Imladris fall? Which side...or neither.

"Brother." He greeted softly before he took his customary seat on the window ledge where he could keep an ear out for his birds.

It is....a giant lizard..that is talking to me. .........I am not drunk...so you must be real. Unfortunately. Now why ever would I risk my precious birds on some venture for this Melkor?

Aye, I have been getting them as well. One from the bat woman promising the Noldor wiped out and now one from the oversized Lizard claiming I should join 'the Team Malkor Cause' as my birds could be useful. I am not sure what to do with this. We will have to confer...what side? Or neither and let them wipe themselves out

/bows deeply Lord Elurín, I come wishing to gain your assistance against the Kinslayers who murdered your family so long ago. They are mustering an army to wipe us all out. If you will aid us, I promise that all the Noldor in these lands will fall.

*eyes her warily* hmm...are they now? Can't imagine why. You offer is tempting...however I doubt you are..all too trust-worthy. You will forgive me if I would not be surprised to find you turning on us once the Noldor are gone. What assurances do we have?

One of my newer birds has taken down her first hunt. That is lovely news, of course I come back from said hunt to find all sorts of...things have arisen on the 'tumblr'

The ‘Woman of Secret Shadow’

Sauron’s vampire messenger, bat-winged and iron-clawed, who carried out his errands between Tol-in-Gaurhoth and Angband.

Little is known for sure about Thuringwethil, but all the indications are that she was a lesser Maia, probably one of the many brought into the service of Melkor during the early ages of the World. Though she is associated with Vampires, she is never explicitly said to be one (instead, she merely took on their form to carry her messages).

Whatever her origins, Thuringwethil’s fate is well established. Caught at Tol-in-Gaurhoth, her winged form was taken by the sorceress Lúthien, and in Thuringwethil’s shape she made her way with Beren to Angband. There they achieved the Quest of the Silmaril, and stole one of the Three Jewels from Morgoth’s Iron Crown.

Thuringwethil wasn’t the only one of Morgoth’s servants who could take on Vampire-form: Sauron used the same form to make a desperate escape from Huan the Hound of Valinor. Far later in history, Sauron once again used Winged Messengers to carry out his errands across Middle-earth: Nazgûl whose airborne steeds were perhaps inspired by Sauron’s Vampire servant of the First Age.

1. FA 468 is the approximate date of the destruction of Sauron’s Isle of Tol-in-Gaurhoth, in which Thuringwethil seems to have perished, or at least been robbed of her physical form.

2. There is no detailed information about Thuringwethil’s nature or origins, but it is stated that she was ‘…wont to fly in vampire’s form to Angband’ (Quenta Silmarillion 19, Of Beren and Lúthien). If Thuringwethil could change her shape, as this suggests, then she was very likely a Maia, “dressing” herself with a different fána whenever executing her tasks as an Angband messenger.

A toucan? They are lovely birds. Most of mine are for hunting, or orphans that have been found and brought to me. I train hunting birds and then sell them to neighboring lands. 

I would not mind raising a clutch purely for pets…I have yet to have the time to see about getting a mated pair of…well anything..hmm…

My birds are well known, I do not think they know I am elven or else they may change their minds. But yes, I breed my own birds.

Toucans are lovely, they make very sweet pets. It is a pity I cannot start raising them but I doubt I could find a pair..

Where do toucans even come from? I have only ever seen one, who one day happened to eat some of the fruit and seeds I set out for the other birds. It remained nearby since then. I only recently learned what they were called.

Perhaps I should check again…

Hmm? Oh ah, I have some humans that run interference for me and the odd times I must deal with them, I wear one of those large foolish hats to cover my ears. It is...easier then having to deal with the humans.
