Bugs are just so fascinating. The diversity is insane, there are over one million species and they make up about 80% of all the world's known species and that's just the ones scientists have studied and described so far

And they're so... So. Info dump under the cut. It's long.

Take ants. Those tiny little fuckers have a whole system where if one finds food, it'll release pheromones to communicate to the others to follow (Bees also do something similar, just with the "waggle dance" instead of the pheromones.) and the fact there are different groups of ants who have a specific role (castes) and that each of those have physiological differences dictating which ant does what job.

And beetles. Beetles are ridiculous. They're by far the largest order of insects, as they make up to 40% of all species described. They're just fucking cool. There's the Hercules beetle, which is ridiculously big, I probably couldn't hold one in my hand. Its horn makes it the longest beetle in the world (male Hercules beetles can reach up to 19 cm long). And it's super strong. They can carry over 850 times its weight. That's like a man holding a car with one hand. Tiger beetles can run so fast they basically go momentarily blind because their nervous system can't handle the speed.

Fireflies are technically beetles and not flies. They've evolved the ability to produce bioluminescence and they use it to attract mates and lure in preys. They flash their light and then tiny insects see it, go check it out and get straight up eaten. And different fireflies species also have different flashing patterns which is wonderful!

Dragonflies have been around for 300 million years and they've barely changed at all because they're just so effective at what they do. And they feed on mosquitoes which is nice. Cicadas are just weird. They live 17 years under the ground and feed on tree roots just to come out all at once and mate and die. I kind of wish I could do that.
