*Seeing the man stumble lessened L’s conviction of it being staged by four percent. Someone who had suffered a head injury (or any kind of injury, for that matter) was not going to feel or be peachy; a toddler could know that, though the pain was undoubtably real, and Light’s denial for outside assistance was quite in character for him.*
“Stop whining, I’ll take you."
*He replied with an unimpressed sigh, although his mental state had shook away those previous doubts that momentarily exposed him to a few minutes of vulnerability, it was not for the better; Kira had been a lasting fixation for the detective, and though he felt annoyed at the current scenario, the notion that he could have been playing with the serial killer, thrilled him a little, and he would not dare to admit it.*
*Planned or not, L had partially regained his working spirit, with his brain up and running. As he analyzed his own words, he gave away the implication that the office would be left unattended; the both of them would leave in search for the butler, but it was foolish not to consider that Light may have other means to access it without his physical presence; Misa, for example, the girl had been put to cleaning duty recently, which meant she could have memorized every nook and cranny by herself, with the instructions of Light.*
*Everything in there was (mostly) information that they had learned together, it could be tampered with, for a new trail to pop up when the two of them were absent would publicly announce Light’s innocence, or at least serve as a backing argument for it. If the detective called an officer to guard the place in their absence, the brunette would catch onto his distrust and double his defenses; whichever way he went, L kept meeting dead ends.*
*Such a thoughtless occurrence could burn Kira’s criminal profile or — no, he was getting ahead of himself, he needed to over the events with a clear head, stay calm, disorder is what he wants, he’d faced worse.*
*Offering to help him was not at all unusual, but it might have hidden ulterior motives; if he were Kira, he would want to get as close as possible to his most dangerous pursuer, in a manner which would appear entirely natural.*
“His office isn’t that far."
*There was no other way but to wait, he needed nonverbal that Kira knew what he was doing, and wasn’t a disoriented person who refused help only out of a deep pride.*
