Uh, hi! Been a while, eh? Yeahhh, work picked up again and this time likeā¦ I dunno it just drained me? Really bad. I didnāt draw for a week and came back sorta okay but couldnāt find the good or joy in reallyā¦ anything?? Trying to get back in a positive art mood and get the juices flowing before I come back here. Iām alive and well and doodling in the meantime, if anyone was worried o/
Also like- it suddenly got really hard for me to talk to people for some reason?? Online and irl. Genuinely just think itās burnout from work spilling over into other aspects of my life, but we ball. Hope all of you have been fairing well <3
Do Kaine and Hathaway have any particular techniques they gravitate towards / rely on in battle? How would they take a loss / win?
Okay yes I love this question so much!!
Kaine is the berserker type. He'll throw himself at his opponent with no regard for his own safety. He favors physical attacks over ranged. He doesn't typically use moves when he fights. Prefers the good old fashioned fists š He also plays dirty when he gets really into it. Like that sucker will bite a chunk outta your arm, he's an animal.
He low-key hates to lose. He'll fight tooth and nail to make sure he doesn't, but if he does you're gonna be running him a rematch before he's even finished recovering XD Winning is the only option and he relishes it.
Hathaway is kind of a coward I won't lie. He has little to no battle experience despite being at lvl 100. He uses ranged attacks mostly. Psychic is his go to. He uses it to increase gravity on his opponent / pin them so they can't move as fast.
Hathaway's a good sport an knows he's not the best at combat so losses don't bother him. If he somehow wins he'll be more shocked than anything.
Happy Munday! I've got to ask about Mister Mans himself-was Kaine always planned as a Zoroark? Or did you have other drafts and concepts that came first? Did any survive in the form of other characters? (on blog or yet to be introduced even)
Yes, he was always planned to be a Zoroark! Though as I've developed him further I've played with the idea of him being different species, like a Grimmsnarl or a Midnight Lycanroc. I don't ever really deviate from a character's beta design, I often just change aspects of their appearance rather than a full on species change. Everything is set in stone from the jump pretty much.
Were there any characters that inspired some of your own? Which piece of media would you say is the most inspirational when it comes to your art style? How long has it taken to develop?
Admittedly desgin wise Kaine's normal appearance and his human form are unintentionally inspired by "Hydrated" Ganondorf as he appears in Zelda TOTK. Specifically his Demon King form!
Hathaway was unintentionally inspired by Ganymede, the geek mythological figure. In most artistic translations I've seen, he's depicted as a young man who's appearance leans towards androgyny but with feminine attributes.
I say "unintentionally" because I didn't realize how similar they were until I had a moment one day like: "Wait... hold on this is eerily familiar to- OHHHHH!" I realize though that quite honestly them being based off those characters was pivotal to their lore, so I decided to own it rather than change them completely.
Artstyle inspos, huh? Hmmm, while I have more than a handful, the most recent I've been viewing are Zenless Zone Zero, Guilty Gear, and Persona. I also like the Disney and western animation style. I'm still developing my style, so I don't really see one particular media shining through. It's a blend of aspects I cherry pick from them and mash together Frankenstein style.
Surprisingly though it's not taken me quite as long to get where I'm at currently with my art. When I have the time and I lock in, I tend to improve pretty fast. Enough that I have jumps every 3-6 months depending on how much I was able to draw. It's been a journey so far, haha. I can't wait to see where I'll be at the end of this year.
my question for you is: what influences you/your characters/your writing? do you try to come up with ideas by yourself only, or do you like taking inspiration from other media? be it music, movies, series, books, anything really! I'm just curious about your process š
I'm often influenced the most by music, shows, movies, and games. I have an entire playlist on Spotify that's this blog's soundtrack. Music especially really helps me develop ideas!
My process for characters usually works off of vibes 95% of the time. I don't use things like moodboards or collages/aesthetic boards because admittedly I'm too lazy to make them XD Characters come pretty naturally to me, like a whole person just pops in my head complete with a back story, quirks, and everything.
Munday: Since there's not many characters introduced here, what known traits (like playing board/card games, fighting, etc.) do they have? You can list 3-5 of them.

Any particular activities you like to do outside of ask blogging?
I like to longboard (still learing) and play games! I'm a pretty simple person in the hobbies arena. Like outside of art I really only do those two things lol XD I wanna get more into writing because I feel I could be better at it, so I suppose I'll be adding that to the list soon!
