Luis Rook was born to Dr. Henley Rook and his wife, Nora Wolfe. At ten years old, Luis lost his mother to Turberculosis.
After Nora's passing, Henley, while not abusive, became emotionally cold towards Luis; Spending days at the London University and nights in his study, leaving Luis in the care of his nanny, Madeleine; who had a bright mind and taught Luis about Chemistry, Botany and Anatomy.
As the years went on, Luis became attached to Madeleine and saw her as both a mother figure and a teacher, and had emotionally detached from his father, who paid no mind to the young boy. Even as an adult, Luis saw Henley as nothing but a stranger. At 21, Luis’s life came crashing down when Madeleine fell ill with Tuberculosis; the same disease that took his mother.
Luis struggled to find something- anything- to save Madeleine from the dreaded illness. But sadly, it was too late. After Madeleine died, Luis suffered a psychotic breakdown and attempted to kill Henley, blaming him for the deaths of Madeleine and his mother. Luis was detained and sent to a mental hospital where he was subjected to electroshock therapy daily.
Upon his release, Luis disappeared to a village on the coast of Iceland and became the primary doctor, pharmacist and mortician of the nameless village. Rumors spread of a miracle worker who could cure deadly diseases and bring the dead back. Once hearing of this, Henley traveled to the village and confronted Luis, demanding to stop the lies and come back.
Luis, who spent a good chunk of his life within white walls and his body constantly poked and prodded by needles and electrodes, had slowly devolved into madness. Driven on by anger and the voices of his mother figures, Luis grabbed a scalpel and stabbed Henley in the neck. In reaction, Henley fell back and slammed into the table of chemicals, causing a reaction that resulted in a slow painful death. Luis stood by and watched, both in fear, happiness and fascination, at the passing of his “father”. He didn’t even noticed the black fog that slowly crept into his home and engulfed him in darkness.
A villager managed to escape and contact the police, but once the authorities arrived, all the villagers were dead. Both Luis and even his house disappeared, never to be seen again. A single note was found in a dead man’s hand.
Scrawled in blood, it read “The Apothecarist murdered us… God save us…”
(Not my best writing but I think I did okay!)
