ask-the-darkest-wind:
He cocked a brow at her preparedness. It wasn’t a bad thing, but he was still getting used to being fully awake and needing to answer her.
He gave the stranger a slightly crooked smile and mouthed a thank you as he took the bottle from her. He’d have to repay her later somehow, once he could think properly through the pain.
The relief reminded him of a memory. But he couldn’t say if it was fond or something else. He just drank until it felt like his throat was finally something more than a desert. Damned if he ignored his physical predicaments.
It still scratched, and it still rasped, but it felt so much better now. “Thank you, miss…?”
Seeing how lips moved already made the elven lady smile gently, while the male’s voice was raspy still, the thank you made her nod with a gentle smile, before responding.
“You’re welcome, sir. It was the least I could do considering your injuries I. couldn’t leave a person alone in such a state.“ She said with a slight nod to him. “My name’s Mercedes.“ She looked at the place she found him on, before looking back at him. How he was in this situation she wasn’t unsure of, but she would like to know if it’s an issue that can be avoided so she could inform the one who oversees the town’s issues.
“Speaking of which…How did you end up in that state to begin with?“
"Right. Thank you, Miss Mercedes." He gave her a curt nod before leaning back against the bench.
Tapping the lip of the bottle against his own never really did anything to jolt the memory, but it seemed better than just staring at the ground. Which...he was doing now anyway.
But even awake, things were wisps and fleeting. He thought he had some idea, but it was no longer there, no matter how many times the crease between his brows twitched.
He leaned forward, elbow to knee, with his fingers in tense points against his forehead. But...nothing. There was only throbbing and pain at every wall he hit.
He turned his head to look up at her. He shook his head. "I wish I could say. I don't even know what time it is."
