Hi, I am still fairly new to the Wiccan craft. I have two books on the subject; Scott Cunningham's Living Wicca and Grimoire For the Green Witch: A Complete Book of Shadows by Ann Moura. Since I currently don't have the money to buy more books, I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of some really good Wiccan sites that have a lot of information or even some good rituals/spells/chants. Do you have any good thrifty ideas for an altar/altar materials since I don't have one yet? )O(

How do I go about finding a Wiccan coven for myself? I've been a Solitary ever since I began studying and applying what I've learned, but I feel like there's so much I'm missing out on because I'm not involved in group rituals and getting information from High Priests/Priestesses.

My friend bought a pendulum and she got it a few days ago. She's been trying to get the courage to use it. She's been sleeping with it at night, and it's been on her person since she's got it. But whenever she tries to use it, she gets this really weird shaking in both her arms and her chest and it makes it so that she can't hold the pendulum still.. She's cleansed it and everything. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

Some items have very strong connections with their past owners. Especially if these items were personally made or has been in the family for many years. In either case, it's best to not use it. Instead, burry the item or keep it locked up somewhere. Its energy clearly doesn't want to "work with" the new owner, so it's best to not mess with it.

Dear askpagan, a friend of mine is soon going to celebrate ostara, and since being vegan she has a few issues using eggs and breaking them. What would you recommend for her to use rather than eggs? Cheers! Wolf

Plastic eggs. Like the ones people use for Easter. That's what I use. But really, it's the symbolism behind it, so you can really use anything and "crack" or "break" it as long as you know what it represents.

I've always known that doing a love spell with a name on it ("make [name] fall in love with me") is totally unethical. Is it also unethical to do a working to "become the kind of person that [name] could fall in love with"? I thought about how I would feel if someone else did that using my name, and I really don't think it would be problematic. But I'm not positive. Any thoughts?

It's a little problematic, because though your intention might be to not directly affect that person, the spell and energies could backfire and things could go wrong. So instead of saying "someone like [name]," just list a list of atributes and characteristics that person has. That way you avoid using them as an example and potentially affect them, and instead you use their qualities and characteristics as an example.

Although since I know no one who is familiar with Wicca, I was wondering if you have any suggestions on where to begin. Like books and that kind of stuff. How can i do a year and a day initiation without a coven? I see a lot of individuals doing so.

Yes. You can do any and every ritual solo. The book Self-Initiation for the Solitary Witch is a great read for self-initiation. And the book Sabbats by McCoy is a beautiful and must-have book in your library for solo Sabbat rituals.

I've just gotten into Wicca/witchcraft. I wish to try a simple healing spell tonight because the moon is full. However, I don't have an altar or any supplies. I was going to sit in a quiet space outside and attempt this. My question is, do I need to cast a circle for such a simple spell? Primarily because I don't have the tools necessary to cast a circle. Thanks!

The only tool you need to cast a circle is yourself. The energy of raising a circle comes from you, not the tools. Tools simply help you focus and hold energy, but they don't necessarily create the energy. So, really all you need is yourself. Walk in a circle with your hand out to trace it three times; you can say a little chant or something as you walk - I often like to say "Thrice around the circle bound, sink all evil into the ground." This chant does two things: first, it banishes any negativity or harm around you; second, it creates the circle. And that's all you need!

Hello there! Well, I was hoping you could tell me something about protection symbols and how to "charge" them? I did a little bit of research but I'm still not sure in what I know. Thanks in advance!

Any symbol can be a protection symbol. Though common symbols like pentagrams, circles, etc. are known for protection, but they can also be for anything else. So you can even create/design your own symbol and simply charge it with the energy to protect/heal/luck, etc. A basic charging technique can be found in this post.
