Theory: Peridot's Body Is Not Her Own
This is just something that’s been stewing in my head for a while regarding Peridot. Many similarities have been drawn in between Pearl and Peridot in terms of their tactical abilities and slim builds as “manufactured technical class gems”. However one thing’s that’s stood out to me about Peridot’s build is her similarity to the tech around her. She’s more robotic looking and mechanical rather than the more “organic” look of her peers. And this makes me think, is that her real body/form? In the conclusion to the 3rd Stevenbomb, she detaches her foot in order to escape. While we won’t know untill she is encountered again if she is able to reform her extremedies, I have a theory that she can’t. While, yes Garnet was shown to shoot her fists and then regrow them almost instantly in the Slinker episode, Peridot’s delay in repairing herself (or retreating into her gem) makes me beg to wonder if her gem was placed into a shell and that powers and controls her body. If the theory of Pearls being an outdated technical class with the Peridots as the newest models is true, it may be possible that in order to better interface with their tech they actually became one with it. It has been confirmed that gems cannot form a body if put into an object or bubbled. However would it not be reasonable to assume that an apparatus may have been formed to allow them to control it, much like Lapis’ control of the mirror before she was released? Or looking at the user interface on Peridot’s ship which had no physical controls? This may also coenside with the ideas of Pearls being “built”/manufactured with a similarity following into the Peridot generation. Having their gem made then placed in a false body. This could also be a tool for the Homeworld to better control the Peridots, making them more obedient and vulnerable to attacks if they cannot form a body leaving their gem exposed? Just an idea
