Mom always says to never stay too far without a bite to eat, and to always be prepared. So I would have the essentials. As for the bonus question; I can't see myself actually saving anyone head on. But I do see myself dying and becoming so much as a distraction for him that everyone else has a chance to run away. This was easier than just choosing one friend.
