Hello. This is… why is our name Team Kira? You couldn't have come up with anything better?
Whatever. Ask us anything. This "afterlife" is incredibly boring and the only connection we have left to the human realm is a half-sentient Tumblr blog, because why not, I guess.
Oh. Right. I'm Light Yagami. That's right, I'm Kira, not much point in hiding it now that I'm dead and the stupid blog title has given it away. Bet you regret killing me now that crime rates have shot back up. Misa's here too, and Takada and Mikami, in case you want to ask them questions for some reason.
…Tell us how the world's going, alright? We'll tell you about what's happening here, in exchange. Once is once, or whatever it is he used to say.
— Light
Yagami has gotten much worse at being charming. …Probably for the better.
— Kiyomi

OOC: It's yet another Death Note roleplay blog! This one is set after the manga finale, so they're all dead. Mu is other people. As a result, their dynamics might not be what you expect :)

Please send us asks! You can direct them to specific people (Light, Misa, Mikami, or Takada) if you want, though you don't have to. Also, Light hasn't mentioned them, but Higuchi and C-Kira are also around here… somewhere. They'd probably appreciate some human interaction.
This account isn't affiliated with any other roleplay blogs and probably won't engage, just because of timeline issues. Sorry! Feel free to send in asks if you find a way to make it work, though. (And if you're out there, Near: a Tumblr blog won't hold up as evidence in court and you know it.)
Bigots (including transphobes and Zionists) not welcome. Shockingly, denying people the right to self-determination is bad. Fix your hearts. Thank you.
Finally: this ask blog has a tiny bit of truth-compulsion power because none of these bastards would say anything useful otherwise.
how do we have to picture you all in the afterlife? are you wearing the clothes you have died in? light, are yours bloodstained?
LIGHT: …Did I ever actually mention I was shot?
MISA: I mean, one of them talked about Near and Mello, sooo.
LIGHT: So we can assume they already know everything. Some of them, at least. (sighs) Damn.
MISA: Yep. Are you gonna answer the question?
LIGHT: Yeah… Give it to me, I’ll type.
Yes and no, respectively. As far as I can tell, we’re all wearing our clothes from the morning of the day we were sent here. My suit doesn’t have bullet holes in it yet, and Takada actually has clothes, so that’s the best explanation I can come up with.
The wounds are all gone. All of them. Like time rewinded to before I got shot, or something. So there’s no blood, which is good, because I like this suit.
I still experience phantom pains sometimes, though. Mostly in my wrist.
MISA: Oh, I never thought about that! Good thing I dressed up. And put in contacts.
LIGHT: Don’t they hurt from being in your eyes for so long…?
I mean, uh, I guess it depends on your definition of missing someone. Like, she was a great friend and all. Talking to her was fun. But she had to die, so that’s all there is to it. Like with Ryuzaki. If I wasted time on missing people I wouldn’t be able to do anything!
How can we pick up the mantle of Kira? Can you see us? Can you choose one of us to receive the power?
MISA: Ooh, I’ll take this one! So there’s this notebook—
LIGHT: No.
MISA: Huh?
LIGHT: We shouldn’t explain how it works. They could use the power for evil.
MISA: But won’t their Shinigami tell them anyway?
LIGHT: Not all of them are as helpful as Rem was for you. Ryuk just wrote down the basic rules. He didn’t even show up until five days later. I thought the thing was a prank.
MISA: Yeah, but…
[A short silence]
LIGHT: (sighs) No, it’s better to explain. Someone might use it as their diary and get a real shock later…
Alright. No, we can’t see you. No, we can’t just choose any of you to receive the power — not anymore, at least.
Kira’s power comes from a notebook called the Death Note. These fall from the sky, or rather, they’re dropped by “gods of death” called Shinigami. They look like regular lined notebooks with black covers and a white gothic font for the title. There might be rules written on the inside cover, but that’s not a given.
When you write someone’s name into the Death Note and picture their face, that person will die of a heart attack in forty seconds. The Shinigami will probably appear to you some time after that, or even as soon as you pick up the notebook. Do not trust the Shinigami. Their job is to kill you once your time is up, and they’ll do it.
MISA: Not always.
LIGHT: Well, you can’t go wrong if you assume it.
The notebook works just as well if you tear off pieces of it, and it doesn’t run out of pages. If you can’t take the stress, give it back to the Shinigami and they’ll erase all your memory of it. That’s all.
[Audio glitch]
MISA: What? What about—
LIGHT: That’s all.
[Audio glitch]
LIGHT: I don’t expect you to believe me, obviously. But just be careful if you see any notebooks matching my description, alright? Think it over, and think well.
[Footsteps leave]
MISA: (under her breath) He stole my line…
Oh! Light forgot to say, there’s no good way to get the Shinigami to give you a notebook. You’ve just… gotta be charming. Like me!
Joining you guys just for our goddess Misa Amane 🙏
MISA: Oh wow, a fan! Hi! I'm so glad you like my work!
(dropping the press-interview voice) And yeah, everyone else here is so boring. You're only the second ask I've gotten! It doesn't make sense! Do you know how many scandalous industry secrets I could tell people?
mikami, takada said that when she asked you out for dinner you answered that you had not interest in "this particular societal convention" -- did you mean dating in general, dating with women or what else? have you ever wanted a life with someone before receiving the death note or were you planning to dedicate all your life to your work?
TERU: The latter. I don't see the point of dating. It seems like far too much effort for too little reward, and besides, I don't imagine most people would want a partner with such a rigid schedule.
Though to answer your actual question, yes, I am homosexual. It doesn't have much practical effect on my life, however.
Thank you both for giving honest answers. It was nice seeing your perspectives on the situation, and it's helped me understand yall a little more.
Maybe others(more than likely me)will be motivated one day to try and bring the movement back, even if Kira himself can't be there. You two would definitely be good motivation
Oh… Thank you. This is very encouraging to see. As long as it's for a kinder, more peaceful world, you may use my image however you wish.
If this were real, we’d hear about Detective L investigating ‘Kira from the afterlife.’ Grow up and stop trying to make a spectacle of a horrible time that’s /over/.
Ha. Yeah, go ahead and believe that, it’s probably for the better. Though if your mission is to eradicate all Kira imitators, I hardly think a Tumblr blog is the place to start.
Also, L only appeared on public TV once. And he’s dead. He’s not your fucking superhero. He didn’t save anyone.

Why things have been hectic in the afterlife?? I feel like Light should answer to this one
LIGHT: (vaguely sulky) I don't have to answer any of your questions. I have free will.
TERU: He broke the computer.
LIGHT: (sighs) Shut up.
TERU: (with a very controlled kind of deranged glee) Yagami-san tried to find a way into the wider Internet, which resulted in him damaging half the keyboard.
LIGHT: You would too if it was trying to kill you —
TERU: Need I remind you that we are all already dead? And you could have stopped at any time.
LIGHT: The pain meant that I was getting somewhere! You understand that, don't you?!
TERU: ………
[Pause. Light takes a calming breath.]
LIGHT: I was almost there when Misa interrupted me. I'm sure.
TERU: By all means, then, keep trying.
LIGHT: You're an asshole. Anyway, for whoever's asking, I'm pretty sure this computer, whatever it is, has some supernatural effect. It doesn't let us write down anything we believe is false, and it doesn't take too kindly to attempts to take its software or hardware apart. But since it's our only way to contact the outside, I'm not going to antagonize it further.
[The audio is now much clearer, even clearer than it was originally]
MISA: —stop it! Stop it! Light, y-you're bleeding, let me—
LIGHT: Don't touch me!
MISA: O-Okay! Okay, okay, I'm sorry!
LIGHT: It's fine. (a little shaky) I'm not injured.
[Audio glitch]
LIGHT: (calmer) Let's all just not use the keyboard for now. It won't take long for it to grow back. We can still answer questions through the microphone.
MISA: Yeah, like with the tapes. I'm an actress, remember? I've got this.
Takada, Mikami, could you tell us a bit more about the circumstances under which you two came to know each other? We know that you met during a show and that you had at least one dinner together after, but is this all or did you actually become friends after this occasion? Or were you just acquaintances? Or maybe you have dated each other...? I hope I am not too intrusive with my curiosity...
[Kiyomi clears her throat]
[The audio quality seems a bit off — distorted?]
KIYOMI: This is Kiyomi Takada speaking. Apologies for the delay, things have been… somewhat hectic around here.
You're correct, I first met Mikami-san on a discussion panel. He was the only one there who had actual well-thought-out opinions on the rapid development of technology in today's society, and I was surprised at how much his views on Kira aligned with mine. While I disagreed with some of the finer points, it was refreshing to meet a Kira supporter who wasn't just a fanatic — someone who truly understood why Kira was carrying out his actions. Someone who hated crime as much as I did.
I introduced myself to him during the recess. I'm afraid I was rather forward. He was a little taken aback at first, but we had a fairly pleasant conversation and that was that. I didn't think I would see him again.
The next time we met was for a high-profile murder trial. I actually wasn't meant to be the person reporting live on that one, but Sato-san ended up falling ill that week. Very unfortunate.
[Audio glitch]
Mikami-san was set to be prosecution, so I interviewed him the day before about the trial. He was… nice to talk to. Professional, respectful. It's — (she sighs) — the bare minimum, of course, but all too rare in this field.
The third time we met was during another discussion panel I was hosting. (half a laugh) He showed up to a lot of those. This one was on the educational reforms set to take place in 2011. The subject of Kira came up again, as it always does… He made his points well. So many people don't realize that children have no inherent innocence, that attempting to shelter them from knowledge of criminals isn't protecting them, all it's doing is —
[Kiyomi inhales, then exhales.]
I caught him afterwards and asked him to dinner.
He turned me down at first. He said, er, that I was very nice but he wasn't interested in "this particular societal convention," that's a direct quote. I had to reassure him that I wasn't trying to ask him out and that nothing would happen, I just wanted someone to talk to.
— About Kira, that is. Which was… mostly true.
He accepted, in any case, and we had — well, I had an excellent time. (quieter:) I should stop assuming.
We had dinner together a few more times before both of us coincidentally became busier with work, and then… well.
(suddenly abrupt) So no, I don't believe we were friends. Acquaintances at most. Does that answer your question?
KIYOMI: (to herself) So this is the ask he was talking about… Oh. T-That's… actually sort of sweet.
[Footsteps approaching]
MISA: Wow, this anon is wrong about everythiiiing.
KIYOMI: You would think that.
MISA: Your personality is not more attractive than mine. I'm cute! I'm charming! You're so… so uppity all the time!
KIYOMI: I am not — (catches herself) So you think I'm more attractive in the aesthetic sense.
MISA: Ugh! No!
[Audio glitch]
MISA: That's not what I meant and you know it — see, there you go being smug again!
KIYOMI: (smug) I'm sure I don't know what you mean.
[Audio glitch]
KIYOMI: Now please go away, I want to answer the question.
MISA: Ughhhh. Fine. This isn't over, Kiyomi Takada!
[Misa skips off]
KIYOMI: (to herself) All right, um… Oh. It recorded all of that. Er, I'm sorry for that, anonymous source. There isn't any way to remove audio that I know of, so… Apologies. Let me just get to your question.
[Typing noises]
Thank you so much for the kind message. There's no need to call me Takada-sama, but I do appreciate it.
In regards to Light… he appeared quite charming at the time, so there was no reason for me to suspect anything was wrong, but knowing what I do now… perhaps I should have written his name. I had the means. It's a little insulting that he never considered the possibility.
He burned me alive. I think I am well within my rights to be furious.
But I don't like to think about such things, really. We're here now. I don't know if I would have done any better in his place.
[Kiyomi sighs]
In regards to your other questions, yes, I have thought extensively about what I would do if Kira's power were in my hands.
My ideal world is one filled with only kind-hearted people, of course, but I have to disagree with Mikami-san in thinking that it is possible to divide the world into good and evil so cleanly. It's more a matter of practicality. The police force and armies, for instance, commit violence every day, but society accepts it because the violence is done on acceptable subjects, to prevent acts of more violence. It's a matter of mitigation, of harm reduction.
If I were the first Kira, I would have harnessed that power immediately by sending messages through the media, much like the second Kira did. I would have used the notebook's power as a threat to convince chiefs of police to work with me directly. This would have made power transfer to myself much more efficient, and I'd eventually work my way into implementing laws in a top-down fashion, through the arm of the state, as well as through the bottom-up approach of the notebook.
I also have opinions on educational reform in this ideal world, as well as securing the Statistics Bureau as quickly as possible to ensure that everyone's face and name is available in their census data if necessary, but I won't bore you with the details. Dreaming of a world that doesn't exist doesn't do wonders for my health…
Thank you again for the question, and have a wonderful day.
I won't lie. I prefer you two over Light and Misa any day. You two seem to understand Kiras ideals/moral more , and your maturity is more appealing when it comes to who people would want to represent such a controversial situation. (Plus I think you both are more attractive aestheticly and personality wise.)
Have you two ever thought about overthrowing Light (considering he's asshole outside of being Kira , so Id think thats more than a valid reason itself.) . And if you did, would you do differently? What would your ideal world look like?
[Footsteps. It sounds like someone is carrying the computer over a distance.]
TERU: Takada-san.
[Silence]
[Teru clears his throat]
TERU: Takada-san?
KIYOMI: What.
TERU: There is an anonymous message asking both of us on our views for an ideal world.
KIYOMI: (very professionally) I see. Please, go ahead and compose your answer first. I will come and take the computer from you when you are finished.
TERU: …I thought you might want to collaborate with me on an answer. It is addressed to both of us together.
KIYOMI: I'm sorry, Mikami-san, but I am very busy.
[Audio glitch]
KIYOMI: Please don't feel like you have to wait on my part.
TERU: ………… I understand.
[He walks back to where he was and begins typing]
Dear anonymous,
Thank you for your message. It is very flattering.
I never thought of "overthrowing" Light Yagami when I was alive. Even if I knew his name and face before the confrontation, even if he hadn't threatened me with death for not following his orders — God was absolute and my role was to help him. Not to question.
At any rate, I was sure that his and my goals aligned, so there was no need to do so at the time. If I had had the notebook at the start, however… I believe I could have eliminated evil much more efficiently. I never understood why Kira didn't delete those with criminal records, for instance. They might not present a danger at the moment, but their pasts proved that the seed of evil had already sprouted in their hearts, and they would only end up as impedances to society in the end. Recidivism rates are evidence for that. I also believe there was no need to keep people like Demegawa around for so long; surely Kira could have found someone less self-interested to spread his message over the course of five years?
Many things don't add up, in retrospect. I should have realized faster. I agree with you, anonymous messenger: despite acting as the first Kira, Yagami does not understand God's mission at all.
In any case, my ideal world looks much like anyone's, I believe: a world with only good people. A world where every child can laugh and play games without being mocked or abused. A world where families never feel the need to lock their doors.
[He sighs]
It will happen, one day. God will ensure it.
I only wish I could be his right hand again.
Im not sure how to ask this. I'm not use to being open to others.
Ive secretly been a Kira supporter for a few years now. I felt ashamed to tell the one person i was close to, cause there's a lot of personal issues we've been through together and I'm scared I'd loose her.
Said friend has been very distant lately, and I've been going through some emotional things that I can't fully understand. I've tried contacting her , but to no avail. She approached me tonight , saying that she's gotten her first big case at work. I can't seem to feel any joy or excitement for her. And now she's upset with me. We've never gotten this agitated with eachother. I dont like it.
The last thing she told me was "If you weren't so worried about others , or letting that Kira sh*t get to you, you wouldn't be so depressed. I hate what you've become"
I dont know what to do anymore. Please help.
-Tenshi
(Anyone can answer this, or all of you if you want)
oh… that sounds like a lot. im sorry…
um the others r all asleep right now so youre stuck with me for an answer i guess… i dont rly have friends so idk if i can judge but your friend doesnt sound very nice. she doesnt talk to you abt your emotions, only abt her case thing. being depressed isnt your fault. its an illness.
if you still want to be friends though, its ok if you dont feel happy for her. being happy is hard. its important to pretend though. think abt something that makes you smile and say its because of her. say youve gotten better even if you havent. thats the only way people will like you.
i think its good that youre worried abt other people though. that means you still feel things.
um. i guess my advice is, find some way to help people. put the worrying into doing something. like kira. it doesnt have to be big. i used to edit the firelight magical girl wikipedia page a lot since i was the only one collecting the rare figurines and some people thanked me and that was nice. find some reason to keep staying in the world a little longer. just one day at a time.
and then when youre feeling less depressed maybe you can talk to your friend. if shes a good friend she will def miss you.
thank you for supporting kira :) that makes me super happy.
