Urie waited patiently down by his cave for Claudine. He’d told her about the book he’d found ages ago and was dying to give it to her. It was weirdly comforting that there was at least one other person he could share this language with, even if other people learned sign language for him it was different. From the outside people wouldn’t assume that they were friends, or that they even knew each other considering the ways their parents hid them from the world.
He sat at the edge of the cave, swinging his legs out and glancing over the illustrations of the book, smirking as he copied a couple from memory. He heard footsteps and got ready to retreat back into the cave before calming down and realizing it was Claudine,”Hey! I’m glad to see you, how are you? ”

Sneaking out of the house was one of the easiest things Claudine had ever learn compared to all the other weird religious things her father demanded be drilled into her head. Today was more sign language lessons, Claudine assumed, since Urie was the only one of them with actual books to learn it from, but they always had to sneak off at odd times to do it. Ursula always had him working and Claudine was either at school or at her father’s church.
Claudine jogged up to the mouth of the cave, lifting up the ends of her skirt so as to not get wet. If she came home covered in mud, father would definitely know something was up, “I’m alright. Did we have to meet here? It’s so dark.” she fiddled with her matches and lit the candle she always kept in her pocket, setting it gently on a rock.
Urie apologized and got out his own candles and the one still-good flash light he’d saved from the dump. Using these the cave was illuminated instantly. It was not close to being an ideal place to learn or keep things but it was the best place he could find. With it being hidden and as close to either of them as it got down by the shore.
“I know it’s dark but-” He cut himself off to reach over and grab something,“A while ago I found another book for signing but it was only half a book, I just found the other half though! I figured you would want to see it, or take it, or something. Besides we haven’t talked in a while.”
