i was reading through the blog and im confused about the pyre eyes. are they exclusive to pyres?
It’s exclusive in that it’s my and Tinny’s headcanon for ninetales/vulpix as a whole. But within the headcanon, no, they’re not exclusive to just the Pyres.
Basically their eyes are an indicator of how strong their psychic abilities are. Since they’re a proud clan, they’ll usually show the extent of their abilities (meaning they won’t lie about it. see below).
White rings are considered the strongest/most potent psychic abilities, and are least common. Full colored eyes without the ring come second. Regular eyes come last, and are most common.
HOWEVER, the eyes “design” isn’t what a vulpix is born with - it’s the psychic ability. Those that have the psychic capacity to access the white ring can easily just settle with a lower tier, but it’ll lower the amount of psychic power they can use. Consider it like, a cap on their actual abilities. Again, strong Pyres normally won’t cap themselves bc why should they?
On the flipside, someone with normal eyes COULD in theory reach white ring tier, but that would put a LOT of strain on them (and could potentially make them go blind, worst case scenario). This means they extended their ability cap far past its limit.
