What: A Fond Farewell
When: Today, August 3rd
Jeff laid face down on the bare mattress in their nearly empty bedroom. They'd been packing for what felt like weeks, and he was tired and starting to get nervous about leaving. He reached out his arm to where he thought Nick was standing nearby,
Nick looked around, biting his lip. Up until now, he hadn't really paid much attention to how different the room looked. It was... Odd. He felt something touch his leg, and looked down at Jeff on the bed. Laying down beside him, he wrapped his arms around him. "What is it koala?"
Jeff snuggled in close to Nick, "tired... little scared... I'll miss this place and Ohio."
Nick "Me too baby...I remember when I first moved in.. And then you did... There's a lot of memories here..."
Jeff "This was like a real home, not someone else's. Mine and yours, together" he replied, opening his eyes to look at Nick.
Nick nodded in agreement, kissing Jeff's forehead. "I know baby... It's sad..."
Jeff sighed, pressing in for a soft kiss. "Should we finish packing before the moving van gets here?"
Nick kissed Jeff softly. "Probably... It'll make things easier..."
Jeff nodded, getting up off the bed to finish up the packing.
Nick watches Jeff for a moment before getting up and helping, singing softly to himself.
Jeff moved boxes out to the hall near the door. "My arms are gonna be sore for a month, why do we have so much crap?"
Nick "You know, I really don't know. I didn't even know we had this much stuff... But we can always keep some stuff at mom and dad's..."
Jeff "Yeah, we can drop a few boxes off when we leave" he smiled.
Nick "Is that everything? The bunnies are ready to go..."
Jeff "Yeah, and I think I hear the moving truck. I'll go down and tell them all the stuff and bring them up here."
Nick nods, kissing Jeff's cheek. "Okay baby..."
Jeff went out the door and down to talk to the movers. He lead them back up and explained which boxes and furniture was going in the truck.
Nick bit his lip, looking around at their apartment. No, no. He was not going to cry about it. Okay, maybe he was.
Jeff reached out for Nick's hand, "Just think about our New York adventures and looking into our future babies."
Nick nodded, intertwining their fingers. "I know, I know...It's just... Harder than I thought it'd be..."
Jeff leaned in, kissing Nick's neck. "Babies, baby. Little toes and fingers" he murmured.
Nick nodded, wrapping his arms around Jeff's neck, burying his face in it. "I can't wait..."
Jeff rubbed Nick's back, "I know, Bunny."
Nick "Dance with me a little?"
Jeff nodded, moving to lead Nick around the empty apartment.
Nick "I really love you, you know..." Nick said quietly, eyes closed.
Jeff "I do, and I really love you as well."
Nick "And I'm really proud of you."
Jeff "Proud of me?" he asked softly.
Nick nods. "You're following your dreams baby... Not a lot of people have the guts to do that."
Jeff "Well I kinda have this amazing husband who helps me follow them."
Nick "Who is he? I need to thank him."
Jeff chuckled, poking Nick's stomach. "You know I'm also very proud of you, baby."
Nick furrowed his eyebrows. "What? Why?"
Jeff "Nicky... for getting better and going to rehab. Even though it was hard... you never really gave up."
Nick "You're more amazing."
Jeff chuckled, shaking his head a little. "Wanna move stuff down to the car?"
Nick nodded. "Yeah. Will the bunnies be okay or should we have them in one of our laps?@
Jeff "I'll drive and you can hold them until they get used to the ride" he replied.
Nick "You don't have to drive the whole time baby. We can switch out..."
Jeff "Okay, we'll find a half way point along the way."
Nick nodded in agreement. "We should probably get going now..." He replied, picking up some boxes. "We'll, load the car up and drop these off at the house."
Jeff lifted some boxes and started out the door to go down to the car.
Nick made a few trips to the car before the boxes were all in. "This is it..." He said quietly. Their apartment was now empty, aside from them and the rabbits.
Jeff took one last look around, "bye apartment, you were the best first home."
Nick kissed Jeff's cheek before looking around, memories clogging his mind. "Okay... Let's go..."
Jeff nodded, reaching for the cage and heading out the door for the last time.
Nick followed Jeff out, not looking back as he closed the door behind them.
Jeff walked down the stairs. "Want to text your parents and let them know we're coming over?"
Nick nodded. "Good idea." He opened the car for Jeff once they reached it, getting in and quickly texting his parents.
Jeff smiled, getting in and handing the bunnies over to Nick. "I knew we already said our goodbye to them, but it'll be nice for one last hug from your family."
Nick held the cage in his lap. "I agree... I'll miss them..."
Jeff "But we'll come visit and we can invite them up for holidays when we're settled. It'll be nice."
Nick nodded, smiling. "Yeah, you're right."
Jeff leaned over for one more kiss before starting the car and heading to Nick's parents.
Nick hummed happily, petting the bunnies through their cage.
Jeff sighed happily as he drove, pulling up to Nick's old house.
Nick "Will the bunnies be okay in here for a few minutes?"
Jeff "Hmm, maybe bring them in just in case."
Nick "That's probably a good idea... Come on, let's get these boxes in..."
Jeff nodded, jumping out of the car and grabbing a box. He walked in through the side door, "Mom! Dad!" he called out, walking into Nick's old room to leave the boxes.
Nick chuckled, grabbing a few boxes and following Jeff. "I'm gonna miss this room too..."
Jeff "All the cuddling and kisses. And the movies we pretended to watch."
Nick smiled. "We had our first time in this bed, right?"
Jeff flopped down onto it. "Yeah, we did. Nice comfy sexy time bed."
Nick chuckled, laying down beside Jeff. "A lot of things have happened on this bed. We got back together on this bed, I think..."
Jeff "I think so too. It's just where I always knew I could find you" he answered.
Nick "That's kind of depressing. I was always in my bed."
Jeff "No, it's just that I lived at Blaine's then at Kurt's. But you were always here or I could talk to your mom if you were out."
Nick "There are some good memories, and not so good memories. Like when I locked myself in my bathroom..."
Jeff reached out to stroke Nick's cheek, "none of that, you're strong. Let's say goodbye and get on the road."
Nick nods. "Right right." He replied, sitting up.
Jeff got up, reaching out to help Nick to his feet.
Nick led the way to his parents room, knocking before entering. "Hey guys.. Just came to say goodbye..."
Jeff walked after Nick, waving his fingers at the family.
Nick smiled, hugging his dad. "Is Mikey asleep?"
Jeff moved to bear hug Nick's mom, seeing his dad nod at the question.
Nick pouted a bit. "Awe... I want to say bye... "
Jeff "We can give him a kiss while he still sleeps" he suggested.
Nick nodded before going over to his mom, hugging her tightly. "I'll miss you mommy..."
Jeff walked over to hug Nick's dad tightly. He knew the man was quieter but he loved to hug him super tight anyways.
Nick sniffled as he pulled away, wiping his eyes. "We should go now..."
Jeff nodded, moving instantly to Nick's side to take his hand.
Nick "But first we say bye to Mikey..."
Jeff nodded, leading the way to their little brother's nursery.
Nick takes Jeff's hand, looking down at Mikey- Hey little brother...
Jeff stood behind Nick, his chin over his husband's shoulder.
Nick: I'm gonna miss you... But I'll visit, I promise. Just be good for mom and dad, okay?
Jeff brushed his fingers over Mikey's cheeks.
Nick leans down and kisses his forehead. "I love you. See you soon."
Jeff took Nick's hand again to go back to the car and start their drive.
Nick sighed once they reached he car, buckling up. "Time to go to our new home."
Jeff nodded, "it'll be great, love. You'll see."
Nick "I know. I'll have you and it'll all be alright."
Jeff smiled a little as he started the drive.
Jeff "Baby..." he starts, glancing at Nick.
Nick "Yeah?" he asked, looking over at Jeff.
Jeff "We made the right decision? Us both coming to New York?"
Nick nods. "I think we did.... Do you?"
Jeff reached out for Nick's hand. "I really do. And once we finish school we can travel to other places."
Nick smiled, intertwining their fingers. "Very true."
Jeff dropped one of the last boxes onto the bed on the right side of the room. They had to send in a request for a different bed. He turned, "wow, we definitely need to find an apartment for next year."
Nick nodded, looking around. "Yeah... We do..." He replied, his gaze turning to Jeff. "Especially since it might be hard to have quiet sex..."
Jeff chuckled, "I'm sure the other crazy college students will also be having sex. And I can work on the quiet thing." He moved to hug Nick, "we're really in New York and I can see Washington Square Park out our window!"
Nick smiled widely, hugging Jeff back. "Yes baby. We really our. It's beautiful."
Jeff "This is like starting a new chapter in our lives. Sounds cheesy but I feel older, or more mature."
Nick kisses his cheek. "It's not cheesy. But I know why you mean.
Jeff "After we get unpacked we can kidnap McQueen and explore Central Park!"
Nick grins. "Sounds perfect! Gotta make sure to feed the bunnies before we leave though."
Jeff nodded, "I'll write a note on the white board." We walked over to write the small note to feed the bunnies. "Now come here and kiss me for a bit before we have to unpack!"
Nick smiled, walking over and kissing Jeff deeply.
Jeff returned the kiss, feeling everything click into place.
Nick pulled away slowly. "Time to start our new life."
