Assessing social media understanding

When I start writing about the various topics in social media at the beginning I feel confused because of many different platforms and different content that we have to write. It is not easy to deal with each platform separately. There is problem which is the new platforms that we didn’t use before at all but this problem becomes a chance for us to know more about the official platforms that may help us to prepare for our work future.

Keep writing every week helps me to improve my writing skills also my critical thinking. I know the importance of sharing the information to others and the most important is sharing your opinion in what you write in tumblr or even twitter.

New media course built many several ideas and added information to my mind. It gave me a chance to know more about advantages of social media like interactive and sharing same idea with different sides. Moreover I know the disadvantages of social media like hackers, internet crimes and what behind all that what leads me to know how to avoid all that and protect my personal accounts from all disadvantages.

I can say that I have a good experience in social media. What leaves a big impact on me, the hackers issue because it is different than all topics and differ than what I learn and what I knew before. It is interesting to know how these clever thieves are thinking and how they use their genius in doing bad things such as stealing money from the bank online.

I observe that really there is an improvement in my using of social media platforms and I understand the use of each platform. This course allows us to know the strategy of using social media, to read before we write, to make our own view and to protect our accounts from hacking.

Cyber criminals are they genius?

I think that cyber criminals are using their brains smartly to achieve many goals or may their knowledge and curiosity leads him to try accessing to blocked sites or even to private accounts. This ways allows him to gain many things such as:

Personal information about person or company.

Bank accounts number that’s serve them to stole money.

Destroying an institutions reputation.

Win tenders.

I am against cyber criminals, because the technology revolution it is not about hacking others privacy or just taking others money without exerting any effort. It is about use it smartly in a correct way.

Moreover, the world has changed in the age of the Internet. Hackers world were not limited in science and knowledge, technology passion become more than that it has become a weapon used in a hidden war between the states and companies on the one hand and between the hackers groups on the other hand. This conflict is exacerbated day by day and users are the cyber-criminal victims.

I see also that the power of cyber criminals consider it as a weapon that can destroy privacy and just repeal privacy in social networking sites at all. Yes they have smart minds and they are clever but the right way of using knowledge is not to infringe the privacy of others and destroyed it.

Actually they are genius and they can use technology against us.

How male are using social media

The old saying “Men are from Mars, women are from Venus” holds water when it comes to how men and women use social media. Of course male use social media for their own purpose, that is differ than why female use them. Most of males don’t have strategies in choosing who to follow and who accept to follow them. They choose their social media friends randomly.

I will explain the answers by charts below.

I have noticed that 37% of men are using social media for getting knowledge by searching for the information and passed it to others. 31% of them use it for entertainment & 7% for communication. I see communication is a part of entertainment because they are spending time to enjoy and build relationships in same time. And the 25% are using it for knowing the latest news.

Males interact with social media every day and every hour at a day. They interact with social media to express their own vision by posting pictures, videos, audio or writing depend on their interests and depend on the program. All of them like to share their daily life to others and they like to interact with others posts. They all like to comment and like their follower’s posts. Males are more with chats and direct messages they like to be closer from their virtual world friends.

They consider social media as one of their daily essential uses because it serves them in many different aspects such as gaining information, having fun in the free time and looking for relationships from different cultures and different majors. So about what people look for in social media the answers are same so I was able to collect the answers in the chart below:

Finally, from the study I have done, I am not convinced of the answers. First of all through my experience in social media in many years I didn’t saw that male are looking for information more than fun or relations, specially who are in my age. I didn’t feel that there is credibility in writing answers because everyone wants to be perfect and no one is. Second thing I realized that males didn’t care about the privacy they add any one and share them everything and interact with any one.

Keep contact with your people through social media

Social media is not only for public people it is also for world leaders. I think world leaders have to keep up with technology and stay close from their citizens’ opinions. By this way they send indirect message to the audience that means we are care of your view and we are following the current issues and discussions that happened in the virtual world.

The presence of leaders in the social media reduces the number of parties that have formed there by minority who didn’t find who listen to them. Also according to Albayan newspaper, digital policy council analyse revealed that 83% of the countries in the world that are politically stable, it has leaders in the social networking site, which in turn reflects the confidence of their leadership.

People nowadays are most comfortable with social networking sites. They can follow the decisions and the issues that leaders talk about. Moreover they be aware of the local, regional and international developments and projects, actions and initiatives that done by the country.

One of the leaders in the Arabian Gulf is His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President. He is one of the global leaders who use the social networking «Twitter» site. He earned a sixth place after many international leaders.

Social media created new opportunities, and removed all the obstacles, and made the people part of the development plans. In addition he aims to create more innovative governments in the world, H.H said.

I am following H.H Mohammed Bin Rashid on twitter and I realize that he is closer to his people and their needs, and always puts the people into consecration and keep them with the recent developments in economic and cultural field in the country as he is interested in the cultural aspect greatly. To preserve the stability of the state H.H is doing visits tours around the institutions, ministries and schools. He kept on his meeting with his people constantly.

She is not tweeting too much but when she tweet she told us something important, which is good. Me as follower I don’t need my time line to be full of tweets without aim I need to read what benefit me even if it is once a day. We can said that she is active in social media especially in Twitter. Her account is all about PR and things that related to PR filed.

Her content on twitter is very simple, interesting, with short & clear message, she focus in the point also she interact with people and reply to their comments. Her account is interesting because she is using simple words and short tweets with less than 160 letter. She supported her tweets by links, photos retweeting good tweets and quote tweets. What is serving followers is the links that make him able to know more about the topic. Moreover using links is adding credibility to the content and the account owner.

Important information about Deirdre Breakenridge;

1. She uses public relations strategies dramatically over the tweets.

2. She is interacting and clearly with the audience and she is answer their questions.

3. Practicing public relations work through the Twitter platform.

4. She has a good effect on the audience.

Breakenridge with her indirect communication opened my eyes to see deeply and to look for good things to post and publish. I benefit from her experience in the social media world and how she keep communicate with people that are from his major.

Oman and the UN Millennium Development goals

Oman participated to achieve millennium development goals and which can be summarized in: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; achieve universal primary education; promote gender equality and empower women; reduce child mortality; improve maternal health; combat HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases; ensure environmental sustainability; and develop a global partnership for development.

The Sultanate of Oman is always participated in international summits and meetings. Moreover , it encourages all efforts that aimed to increase the performance level of the. This thing requires a political will and strong corporation by all states members.

In addition, Sultanate has been able to achieve most of the goals that relating to equality and women empowerment by promote gender equality and empower women. As well as the goal which consider to the environment, by protect it from pollution beside reducing carbon .

To achieve the UN MDGs, all parents in Oman should enrol their sons and daughters in school and ensure they remain in education to secondary and tertiary levels. While Oman vaccinates 99% of the new generation, we have still not quite fully reached the maternal care targets. Let us celebrate the success story of Oman, but not be complacent. Let us be determined to exceed the MDGs under the wise and visionary leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said on this 40th year of the Renaissance of Oman.

Popular Visual Culture in Oman

Visual culture in Oman is varied between symbols, drawings and writings on the walls and mountains and carving on the rocks. All these things are carrying a meaning. It expresses messages that are readable by the shape. This kind of art reflects people’s concerns ,their satisfaction, their complaints, traditions and achievements .

One of the visual culture in Oman is drawing in the rocks. The previous picture is painted by Abdulaziz Al-shehhi Omani artist. It is His Majesty Sultan Qaboos picture that takes 7 days until finished it. He drew it in a mountain that highest about 100 m in Khasab/ Musandam. It express loyalty to home and His Majesty . Moreover it is as a banner of peace, freedom, and safe. Omani citizen chooses this way at 45th National day to thank their king about what he did and achieve to keep this country safe and more develop.

The reaction of people and media was very positive toward it. If we take media side they supported him by helping him to send his message around Sultanate by covering what he has done in newspapers and social media. He didn’t had only media support, also people supported him by publishing the picture in social media that captured attention and have a big interaction from Omanis and even from Arabian Gulf people.

This visual culture makes Abdulaziz famous because he express his feeling and all Omanis feelings toward Oman and His Majesty. This rock will remain a witness to his accomplished during years. Everyone will pass that way will receive a message and will be proud of who send it.

From my point of view the visual culture is telling citizens and foreign people about what distinguish a place from other. It also reflects for tourist the relationship between people and their home and how they can let their talents talk in something that stay in memories forever.

I see it is indirect communication. It can touch people’s feelings by colours, location, its meaning and even its shape.

Road maintenance in Birkat-Almouz_Izki street

There are orders from His Majesty that contain Dr. Ahmed Al Futaisi, minister of transport and communication said: “that the high command processing stipulates a number of road projects in the interior province and central in order to achieve security and safety of citizen”

This road is dangerous for a lot of people who passed there because it is between mountains, it has many cracks and holes and there is no lights, moreover it extend about 13 KM and it is danger to passers-by at night.

The importance of this road is, it is a way to many educational institutions like Nizwa University and Collages of sciences so the competent authorities should consider about this road and fixed as fast as they can.

There are so many bad impacts that affects people’s lives like car accidents and animals run over the way. So people have to take care while driving on that road.

Because governments and ORP are seeks to reduce the number of accidents and human losses, Minister of Transport and Communication have to consider in this problem and try to apply His Majesty’s Orders as soon as possible.

The role of civil society in the development of Omani women in the interior of the country

There is a great social transformations appeared in our world today, which gives women their rights and enable them to achieve what they wish. Women today, unlike women in the past . now they are educated ,conscious leaders and decision makers. Women’s emancipation is related to social and economic transformation.

In the Arabian Gulf, especially in Oman women have their right. The civil society encourages them to engage in the renaissance of the community since His Majesty rules the Sultanate. The first participate of women in the civil society was on 2000 in AlShura council, there were 83 male candidate and two women.

Nowadays, Omani women have positions in the country in all fields even political. They aren’t housewives only . Oman gives them opportunities to participate in AlShura council and State council. Moreover they have their own associations like Omani Women's Association in each Welayat.

Omani women have great role which His Majesty specialized a day to pay tribute to Omani women achievements in recognition of their role. It is Omani Women’s Day in 17th October each year.

From my point of view, civil society allowed women to study abroad and work everywhere and every job. She is men partner in change. She have voice and role in society development. Omani women now is not only teacher or doctor, she is also , minister, ambassador, pilot, policewomen, sailor, championship in sports and so many occupations. She is standing side by side with men in the development of the country locally and internationally.

I see it is important to have a balance in our societies and this will comes by cooperation from society members they have to accept the ideas of women empowerment because civil society is the only one is capable of women advancement and helps them to achieve their goals.

Everything has two sides, one is positive and the other one is negative. We have to distinguish between them to understand how to choose the best from many choices.

We know that we are living in the Internet era. The use of Internet has entered to all fields of life, also it captured the attention of all segments of society at different ages.

The advantages of using internet are a lot, on the other hand we will find a lot of disadvantages and I will mention some of each side.

First of all, Internet is an easy way to get information but not all of the information are accurate, so when we miss accuracy we miss the information.

Moreover, Internet allows getting the information as fast as we want, but confirm the information takes a long time. We cannot depend on information without know its source because sources gives the information credibility.

Social networking sites help students do better because of the information variety that it has. It develops self-learning skills where the Internet has drafted a new form of teaching and learning but some people use this advantage negatively by learning hacking accounts and stealing banks or companies.

It also develops interactive skills and sharing information and experience to all but this information may not serve people in good way it can instilled the concepts of racism and call for strange ideas contrary to the values of society or even the religion.

Social media allows you to have a big family in the virtual world but in the real life it dismantled one family . Actually social media has transformed the world into a small village.

The speed driven journalism

5th October2016- Wednesday In the national seminar about the development of training curricula for media in Oman, Dr.Sonia participates by such a useful presentation which is about #new_media & journalism reporting. One of the points that Dr.Sonia presented is #Net_Generation. She mentions Youth Arab Survey that published in2016. This survey showed that 41% of them are using Facebook to share news articles with friends & family and %75 read news online. I agreed that we are net generation and we rely in new media in getting information or to contact with each other. No one can dispense with his smart phone because the world is between out hands by just a button we know every thing about any thing. Official decisions between people and governments

There are a lot of official decisions that canceled. We don’t know what is behind these decisions and even sometimes we don’t know what is behind denial.

I see that sometimes undo decisions is for the benefit of people. Denial serve people but not all the time, sometimes it is negativity.From my point of view, society is a factor that contribute on decision making. It can accept the decision or just refuse it and forced officials to denial it if it is disproportionate to their interests.

One of the decisions that faced opposition by the people is “Raise the gasoline price in Kuwait” that angered people. That was evident in the social media. The highest increase of gasoline reached to 80% that constitute a burden to people as well as the rest of the expenses. On the other hand, Kuwait productivity and reserves is less compared with other countries according to Statistics.

People opposed to the situation continued until the state has denied the decision to raise the price of gasoline. They keep tweeting and mentioning the authorities and those responsible. They started complained all the time in the different plate forms. It has become a matter of public opinion. That means is people have their voice to change some decision in the country, also means that not all decisions are right.

Kuwait have to follow the world especially in the decisions that concerning gasoline rise, but people strongly opposed. Where The municipal council member, Ahmad Albgala warned government to move forward in making random decisions that will affect negatively on citizens.

After less than a month the Kuwait administrative Court ruled Wednesday, September 28 / September 2016, the abolition of the government's decision on raising the price of gasoline.

Harassment definition Social media harassment: Is words, pictures, and rumors that people says to each other’s and exchange it between them in unethically way , and it involves unwanted and unwelcome words, deeds, actions, gestures, symbols, or behaviors. Famous people and harassment A Lot of people are suffered from social media harassment, especially famous people. They are vulnerable to harassment more than any one , because they have a lot of fans and viewer. On the other hand they have unfit users. These unfelt users aims to frustrate people, they don’t want these celebrities to be successful. Reasons of social media harassment. the liberty that available in the social media makes people free to express and write what they want without any censorship. The new challenge of social media I see that the main reason of social media harassment is the huge increase in the number of social media users. It's not only for a specific category in the society it is for all ,that’s the challenge that the owners and outlets cannot control the publishing things on the big websites. Moreover people with their different minds, thought, and education level. Also I see that these websites have to protect the users from harassers by filtering each tweet and post from bad words. Also they have to apply laws prevents harassers and punish them by collaborating with the relevant.
