But I suppose sometimes our Fathers’ shadows—they’re larger than we’d like.
So this is my favourite Batman story of all time, and it isn’t even the main Batman. Yes, this is one of the stories in the relatively brief time where Dick Grayson, Nightwing and the first Robin, took over the cowl. Honestly, I would have been more than fine with them permanently killing Bruce off and having Dick take over forever but hey, that’s comics.
This story’s main villain is, of course, James Gordon Jr., son to Commissioner Gordon, and he makes for a compelling psychopathic antagonist.
As you can also see, the art for this book is incredible with it having both Jock and Francesco Francavilla as artists on it. And with Scott Snyder on the writing you know it’s in safe hands.
It’s a story about children living in the shadows of their fathers but also about humanity and its capacity for goodness. And it’s just a good detective story really. Which is what you’d expect from the story that got Scott Snyder the gig of writing the main Batman book when the New 52 launched.
