Remembering Buchi Emecheta (July 21st 1944 - January 25th 2017): From back in the day, I used to see her books in my local Library (Ealimg Road, Wembkey). I didn’t read any of her writing until (much) much older. I remember I was reading her book ‘Second Class Citizen’, the story of a young Nigerian woman coming to England, and her parallel journey through marraige and motherhood, and the challenges she encountered. I absent mindedly left the book in a Café in Oval... I went back a week later to retrieve it. I remember the café owner moaning about: how I could expect them to still have kept the book after a week (blah, blah, blah). But then, a behind him a Polish waitress who worked there piped up – “Oh, that was your book? I found it. I am reading it! I hope you don’t mind. It’s a great book.” I told her I’d come back next week after she’d finished reading it.
