CATALYTIC THRESHOLDS
The threshold spaces on site, have the form of enclaved common spaces, stable, well defined and secluded, completely separated from the outsiders. Our intention was to transform the borderline in an extended in-between space that can act as a dynamic porous common, as a catalyzer for social interaction. In order to do so, we propose the re-establishment of common space by the in-habitation of the boundaries on both sides of the streets. Trying to approach the design with respect towards the traditional way of living and percepting the common space, inside the block, we tried to keep the privacy intact, but at the same time spaces that can have a semi- private character are created. Considering accessibility of great importance, we propose structures that allow the residents to either staying in the most private areas or visiting the common spaces. This spaces can be shaped through the practices of an emerging homogeneous community that attempts to enrich its en-changes with intruders as well as those between its members. In order to establish spatial relations that encourage different forms of behavior and safety, the proposal consist of spacial structures that can accommodate informal uses and can act as the meeting ground for the society. As far as the construction is concerned , the machine protocol is based on the creation of space trusses and panel modules placed on. The constructions in some parts can be the scaffold itself. The aim was to create structures that act as ordering mechanism that give meaning to an act of passage and interact with the urban reality.
