❤️— The princess of fishman island was, for lack of a better word, stuck. Her pale legs dangled below her, the bark of the tree was rough under the wispy material of her skirt. The cool air felt good on her bare soles, bruised and battered as they were, but that didn’t change the state of her situation. She was eight feet off the ground, and for the life of her she couldn’t figure out how to get back down. Climbing the tree, when she’d initially seen the towering growth of wood and leaves, had seemed like a fantastic idea at the time. From what her mother had told her, human children climbed trees all the time. It was supposed to be “fun”. A nice way to play with others their age. And it had seemed fun, at first. It had hurt, too, Shirahoshi’s delicate hands soft and unused to any sort roughness, her feet already amassed with cuts and bruises, but it was also deeply satisfying. It had taken her almost an hour to scramble up onto the branch she now sat on, but it had seemed worth it at the time. The view across the park was beautiful, and she felt incredibly accomplished.
At least until she’d realized there was no way down, and the mermaid had started to panic a little. No one had come by so far, as the tree she’d chosen was far from the path, and Shirahoshi had begun to despair of ever getting out of this tree. She wouldn’t have minded all that much if she wasn’t hungry, but her stomach growled, and every hunger pang reminded her she had no way down.
❝ Is anyone theeeeere? Can someone help meeeee?❞ Her voice sounded thin and desperate and not princess-like at all, but what did Shirahoshi care at this point?
It was true that some areas were pretty, a lot of it was amazing, on a technological level... But he enjoyed the outdoors much more than anything else. The nature made him feel most at home. Especially trees. He loved climbing trees. Sometimes he would keep an eye out for stray cats. They really did like getting themselves stuck in high places. He understood though, he had often followed them up trees and up buildings as a kid, without really thinking of how to get down. Eventually he would just jump when he got scared enough, watching the cats doing the same, was inspiring. They really were his mentors.
The assassin was tempted to jump into one and laze around doing nothing, when he heard the voice calling for help. "Nya?" The man peered through the thick bangs up at the trees around him. Finally he spotted the woman stuck in the tree. He wanted to laugh. What was she doing up there? Eyes glanced at the state of her feet, and he frowned slightly. She looked like a well off lady, so why wasn't she wearing shoes? He didn't spot any on the ground either. The man let out a sigh and jumped up to a branch, catching it with his hands before pulling himself up to crouch on it.
"Nyahaha, you look like you're stuck." The man couldn't suppress his amusement at her panicking state. She was pretty. And there were two main things that drove him to act, beautiful women, and money. Putting the best grin on his face, despite the ragged appearance he watched her carefully. "Why would someone so pretty, be climbing up trees and cutting up her hands and feet~?"
