The new Percy Jackson is Nico’s type
Hear me out, I have a crazy theory that whoever selected the cast for Disney’s TV show secretly ships Percico, that or they’re spiting Disney for their lack of LGBT representation.
By the new Percy Jackson, I of course, mean the Percy from Disney’s new TV show. This kid has curly blond hair, blue eyes, and even freckles. He’s practically the spitting image of Will Solace, unless they decide to make Will Solace black for no reason.
This means that Percy is 100% Nico’s type (unless Will Solace was never Nico’s type, but the fandom ain’t gonna take that, not after the meme about how Jason’s also Nico’s type), so Nico literally has no reason to lose interest in Percy anymore, except for maybe the fact that Percy’s straight (is he though?)
‘m not trying to suggest that Percico is gonna be canon or anything, just pointing out something interesting in the otherwise boring show.
Krel totally got the short end of the stick in 3Below
When I say Krel got the short end of the stick, I am of course comparing his part in 3Below to Aja’s, and not Vex’s, since Vex is just a bodyguard and it’s understandable if he has less screen time and character development. Krel on their other hand, is Aja’s brother and it’s kinda a given that they are both protagonists, which makes it really unacceptable and weird that he’s such a less character compared to her.
First, let’s talk screen time. Almost every episode in 3Below begins with a scene with Aja and ends with her talking. There’s even an entire episode, the one where the siblings first meet Jim in the space museum, that’s completely from her point of view and ignores Krel’s. When they are both onscreen, half the time Krel’s just like background noise or movement. However, screen time isn’t even the main problem here. The main problem is Krel’s character development, or lack thereof. His lack of character growth makes him a very bad character, like an afterthought of the creators. Don’t get me wrong, Krel’s my favourite character in the entire Tales of Arcadia Series, but that’s because I like his personality. Just having a good personality doesn’t make a good character though, as a villain or unlikeable character could still be a good character with good development. The most obvious thing here is his lack of a romantic plot, while Aja’s is like a major subplot of the series. Sure, Douxie doesn’t have one either, but that’s understandable because a) viewers might take it badly seeing as he’s a few hundreds years old b) he gets his arc through the death of Merlin and Merlin’s newfound trust in him. Krel however doesn’t get the same kind of development. Did he change after his parents’ death? He might have, but we don’t know, so they never showed it. Did he change after Varvatos’s betrayal? Yes, but like barely. It was more of a change in his relationship with Varvatos, and not his general personality. Need more prof that Krel was made like an afterthought? Just look at his greatest fear in the Deep, people! Like what even was that? His fear was literally getting his home destroyed and losing the people he loved, pretty much just your average fear. There was hardly any personal connection between him and his fear, except maybe trying to transfer the message that Earth is now his home. I get that the creators are trying to portray as someone lonely and not understood, but they failed to do so. For someone who’s clearly not loved as much or at least not viewed as much as his sister by his parents, he seems to have no problem with it at all. At least give him a distant relationship with his parents, or some bad feelings towards them. Now going back to his fear. How to make it personal? It’s very easy actually. Who is Krel? He’s an engineer. What do people keep expecting him to do? Fix things. What does he pride himself on? His genius and his ability to fix things. What does his father ridicule? His passion for engineering. So his fear should be his inability to fix things that could potentially stop Morando, justifying his father’s disrespect towards his hobby, causing everyone to become disappointed in him and leaving him alone. The character’s lack of self-esteem should have been a major topic, and the moment when he realised he couldn’t fix the stasis chambers should have been a big growing moment for him, but no, we just totally ignore the fact that he grew up with no support from his parents and yet when things goes wrong, everyone looks to him. He doesn’t even get the easiest of character arcs: becoming a better engineer.
Besides his own character development, his interactions and his relationship with the people around him is also a huge problem. We see Vex, Zadra, Steve, Buster, the thermal electric bounty hunter(whose name I forgot), and even Kubritz’s relationships with Aja change, but Krel? Sure, he becomes good friends with Eli and Toby, but there’s no touching moment, no words repeated again, no nothing to emphasise their friendship. His father didn’t even bother telling him he was wrong about his creations being “toys”.
Did Krel get the short end of the stick compared to his sister? Definitely. Could Krel have been made a better character? Yes. Did I make this post just so I could suggest giving him Douxie as a love interest? Maybe.
Why Uncle Rick should have made Percico canon?
Disclaimer: I do ship Solangelo, and I have nothing against Percabeth, and I’m not making this to bully people. Just saying why Percico would have made the books better in general.
Firstly, why Percico is better than Solangelo. Solangelo is great! I love the Sun and the Star, but do anyone else feel like we’ve kind of missed out on most of their relationship? When we meet them in TOA, they are already dating. Sure, at the end of HOO, we see them flirting, but it was like half a chapter, tops. Sure, they give us flashbacks and recounts in The Sun and The Star, but that book technically isn’t part of any main series, and a lot of people haven’t read it. In fact, it kinda feels like Uncle Rick is narrowing the gay representation down to only one book which might be because he doesn’t want his books to be banned by homophobic parent associations, but still, that means less LGBT representation, or at least less of a chance of changing the mind of potential homophobes. However, if we had Percico, which would probably happen from the start of The Blood of Olympus to the end, we’d have more insight into their relationship. There are also their interactions from before, which matter a lot since we know it was practically love at first sight for Nico. Unlike Will Solace, who although had appeared at the start of Lost Hero, had hardly any interactions with Nico(or none, I don’t remember whether they talked or not in PJO). I mean, when Will Solace suddenly appeared in The Blood of Olympus, I was like who is this guy?
Secondly, why Percico is better than Percabeth. I actually made a whole post about why I don’t like Percabeth(no offense to people who do)which you can check out by going to my homepage, so I’m just gonna brief it down here. Nico deserves better. He has been in love with Percy forever, and he has suffered so much for Percy’s sake. Not to mention Percabeth is just too cliche and has little chemistry. Having Percy be bisexual or gay would also be pretty phenomenal for the LGBT community.
Thirdly, why Percico would be better for Percy. I’m not saying that Nico is better than Annabeth and treats Percy better, I’m saying Percico is better for Percy’s character growth. Sure, Percy seems to have grown in aspects of strength and intellect, but has he really matured? He’s still making the same juvenile jokes from when he was 12, and never once has he wondered about whether he’s attracted to anyone other than Annabeth, except for maybe Rachel, but that was back when he was 15, and he really wasn’t wondering about it, he just kinda let things take their course, which wasn’t really normal for a horny teen. I get that he’s trying to be loyal to Annabeth, but it’s perfectly normal for people, especially teens, to be attracted to people other than their partners. What I’m saying is, if Percy was to wonder about whether he was attracted to animosity or not, and kind of explore his sexuality this way, not only would it be good character growth for him, it’d be very realistic and relatable for people from the LGBT community.
To sum it up, we’ve seen more of Percico’s development than we have Solangelo’s, Percabeth is not the best ship around, Nico deserves to be with Percy, and Percico would be better for Percy’s own character growth. Most importantly, more LGBT representation, crucial in a time when Trump is getting reelected(although I don’t live in the US and this might be totally irrelevant). And that’s why Rirodan should make Percico canon, or at least why you should ship it! But hey, that’s just a theory it’s your choice. :)
Why I don’t ship Percabeth
Disclaimer: I’m not try to bully or insult people who ship Percabeth, just stating my opinion. I love both Percy and Annabeth individually, just don’t like their ship.
Firstly, it’s what everyone expected, but they have no chemistry. It’s a trope. The smart girl falls in love with the slightly dumber but courageous boy. We’d all known they’d be together from the moment Percy met Annabeth. But at the same time, they have next to no chemistry. Maybe it’s cause they were both 12 when they first met, but there was no butterflies and heart fluttering throughout the whole thing, expect maybe in the last 2 books. But then Annabeth is just like sobbing over Luke and they’re arguing so much that the little chemistry they had was forgotten. Honestly, Rachel and Percy had far more chemistry, with Percy remembering her phone number by heart and stuff. Also his reaction when Rachel kissed him was much better than his reaction when Annabeth did. Why did he even go into a daze when she did? Like he couldn’t have been that surprised, Uncle Rick was just writing to the trope.
Secondly, it’s fake girlboss trope. This is kind of a common thing among the trope mentioned above. Before the relationship happens, the boy thinks the girl is so strong and so smart and just generally too good for him, but as soon as the relationship happens or is implied, he’s saving her all over the place. Like what happened to being strong and capable? The same goes for Percabeth, suddenly Percy is saving Annabeth all over the place, even thought when she was alone, we saw that she was perfectly capable on her own. This isn’t me hating on Percy, I just feel like Annabeth would be a better character on her own when there’s no one there to save her. Thirdly, I feel bad for Nico. I mean, don’t we all? Nico lost the only person he could confine because the love of his life broke his promise, then he had to experience Tartarus all alone, getting saved only to lose the love of his life again, and is then told that he has to go back to that hell again to save said love, all while being only 14, having to constantly deal with the sight of his love kissing other people, and being told by everyone that he’s not as good as his dead sister. Sure, he has Solangelo, but c’mon guys, we all know you never forget the first crush, especially after doing everything you could to keep them safe. After all he’s done for the guy, Nico deserves a least some little reciprocation of his feelings right? I know I might be biased here cause my teenage crush never got reciprocated, but honestly, Nico deserves better.

I’m pretty new here, so feel free to inform me if I’m doing anything wrong :)
So Douxie fell in love with Krel back at Camelot when Krel was a human, then Krel died and got reborn as an Akiridion. When Douxie met Krel again, he just went straight up and hugged Krel, which of course, really creeped him out, because he doesn’t remember Douxie. So Krel now thinks Douxie’s a weirdo. Then Krel gets dragged into the time travel too, and he sees the original/old him with Douxie, and he decides to give Douxie another chance. Bonus if you consider ROtT canon, and have Krel gain his memories before Douxie, and when Douxie hugs him, he actually responds positively.
