November 1st, 2018: Naomai (尚舞) of Nakasato (中里) in Kamishichiken has officially begun her minarai period! Her name is very unique as the Mai (舞) kanji isn’t used often in Kyoto. Her misedashi is expected on November 27th, right near the end of the month. Like Gion Kobu, Kamishichiken has shown a venerable bumper crop of new maiko this year, which is always great news for such a small district. With the three big okiya all debuting at last one girl this year it shows a great amount of growth for a district that has seen many retirements. Image courtesy of Hirohiro3776.
