The street light outside of Marcie’s window was broken. It flickered on and off rhythmically, filtering through their curtains and driving them crazy, ruining any chance of them getting to sleep any time soon. She groaned in frustration and swung her legs off of the bed, glancing at the clock as she padded back out into the living room. 3am. It wasn’t unheard of for them to be up that late, restlessness their sleep schedule’s sworn enemy, but it didn’t make it any less frustrating whenever it happens.

“ Hey, you wanna go for a drive ?? ” She was so grateful that Omar picked up on the first ring, sounding just as maddeningly awake as she was. His company was invaluable on nights like these, when the city that never sleeps became far too literal. “ How do you feel about vandalism ?? ” They said as they climbed into his passenger seat no more than 20 minutes after hanging up the phone, “ Because that broken light over there is right outside my window and I just don’t think it’s broken enough. ”
