JACK.
it was exciting to have access to an endless amount of entertainment at his fingertips, but it was also a bit overwhelming. the options were seemingly limitless, and the mention of programs being recorded definitely caught jack’s attention. he pressed the menu button and watched with amazement as it pulled up a screen he’d never seen before. “ whooooa. so i can pick anything i want to watch ? “ he was too fascinated with the device to notice if the girl beside him was looking at him curiously, but it wouldn’t have surprised him if she was. he had no idea how he ended up where he was, but it was a far more exciting city now than it had been a century earlier. “ uh … no. “ jack had never been the best liar, so it didn’t take long for him to give a defeated sigh and shrug defensively. “ okay, fine. maybe i have. but i’m not really that interested in leaving our flat when everything out there confuses the hell outta me. “
sydney couldn’t help but smile as the fascination swept over his face. perhaps others might find it irksome to explain so many parts of the world, parts they’d been used to their whole lives, but if she was being honest with herself sydney found the whole thing rather fascinating. “ anything at all. ” she thought about launching into a tirade explanation how streaming services had altered things a bit, but recognized that the amusement gracing jack’s features could quickly shift into something a bit more fear-based as the sheer amount of information sydney could provide on, well, most subjects. readjusting your entire worldview took a lot of effort and patience - not that she knew what that was like firsthand. still, it all felt a bit familiar in a way sydney couldn’t quite place . . . it was no matter, she reassured herself with another swig of her latte. she’d focus on mysteries and problems she could solve for the time being, such as jack’s obvious lie. she only has to raise an eyebrow before jack is admitting the truth, but getting the real answer doesn’t seem to make her feel any better about the subject. “ i understand that, ” sydney conceded to jack’s admission, a bit more warmth gracing her features, “ and i’m not saying you need to go explore the entire city on your own. but even a few minutes on the porch every day will help things feel a little less confusing, if you feel like you’re up for it. ”
