( maya hawke, female, she/her ) it’s everyone’s fav, ASTRID PARKER ! they are TWENTY TWO and major in COMPUTER SCIENCE, and the group knows they're WITTY and INTREPID, but also IRRESPONSIBLE and RECKLESS. they’ve got a big personality for the mix, so watch out in the close quarters this summer!
astrid parker has never taken a single thing seriously in her entire life.
despite a predisposition for math and engineering, and only one more year before she has a bachelor's degree in computer science, she has not a single plan for the future ahead of her.
she grew up fairly normal, in a very normal neighborhood in a very small town in virginia.
her parents lived in a loveless, though not unhappy, marriage. they married fresh out of high school, before both attending a college in richmond then moving out of the city and to a smaller town to raise their family. her father, gregory parker, was a physics teacher at the local high school. her mother, melody parker, became a paralegal at a law firm. they gave their children a comfortable life, and a loving home.
astrid was the youngest of three. both of her siblings attended college, both highly motivated individuals with their entire lives planned out. astrid was the opposite. where her siblings were highly motivated, she was highly intelligent but lacked the drive to do anything with it.
high school came easily to her, she was in some advanced classes but none challenged her. high expectations followed her wherever she went, but she became incredibly good at lowering them. a frustration to her teachers, she spent most of high school avoiding work where possible and leaving as little of a mark as possible.
there was one thing astrid enjoyed about high school, the freedom that came with being a teenager. she spent weekends driving too fast down empty roads in her friend’s beat up junk car, laughter caught by the wind and lost to the road behind them. nights that were meant to be spent on homework or studying were spent at the local skate park – which was just a flat expanse of concrete where the cops didn’t care if they loitered.
when it was time to apply for college, her only goal was out. she was easily accepted to most places, standardized testing came easily to her and her grades were good enough without too much effort.
astrid ended up at dumont because it gave her a hefty scholarship and the campus seemed nice enough. she became a compsci major because she was really fucking good at it, but it didn’t really mean anything to her. she knew she could do well in it, and that's all she needed.
the three years she’s spent so far at dumont have gone the same way as high school. she skates by in her classes with good enough and not much else. she spends each weekend doing shots in frat houses and ignoring all responsibilities.
but now she has one year left before she has to decide what she actually wants to do with her life. she stands on the precipice of the consequences for her years of not taking anything seriously. it’s the last summer she can live in denial and avoid responsibilities, and she intends to do just that.
when the road trip is brought up, astrid is immediately on board. logistics be damned, this is exactly what she needs during her last summer ever. her parents were disappointed when they found out astrid would not be returning home for the summer, but she was insistent this is where she needed to be.
uh since this is wayy too long the tl;dr is she’s smart as hell but also dumb as fuck
