BACKGROUND .
001. born second to their brother to a successful lawyer and a surgeon for parents in chicago, illinois. and in all honesty ? they shouldn’t have had children. they’re sandwiched between two siblings. an older brother and a younger sister. astrid grew up spoiled. for a good couple of years, their parents doted on them until the arrival of their younger sister. despite being the middle child, astrid is anything but forgotten. even with a younger sister who is in a sense perfect, they still remain their father’s favorite, much to the displeasure of their younger sister.
they’re not the most sociable person out there, preferring to hold their cards close. they’re strategic. always thinking. always one step ahead. and that trickles into who they wish to spend their time with. astrid ends up being selective with who they choose to socialize with. it’s nothing personal, they’d prefer not waste their time.
they’re the opposite of her sister. they weren’t the perfect child their parents wished they turned out to be. while their sister is the child that everyone loved from the start, astrid was a little more prickly. they were never the favorite cousin or relative. never the name mentioned by their relatives. however, the one thing she had a leg up on is being their father’s favorite.
002. astrid has had their life laid out for them since birth. something about carrying the family legacy. the seong siblings were enrolled in the best schools money can buy. they’re well-rounded with an air of sophistication surrounding them. astrid becomes one of the more popular kids in school given their level of involvement and how they’re in almost every club at school. student body president. captain of the volleyball team. mock trial. their father earmarked her as someone to take over his company. they’ve got the stomach for it. he would often say.it pays to be the favorite child, they suppose. it’s nice. and they grow up believing they’ll take over the law firm. they’re dead set on becoming a lawyer. it escapes their notice that they’re often pitted against her younger sister. technically, there is a lot that can be compared to. especially when they’re hardly in school together. they see their sister’s need to one up their constantly. that doesn’t go unnoticed.
003. astrid seong is only in their second year of college when all of this happens. one night, she overhears a conversation in their father’s study. she finds out about his more dubious business dealings. they don’t confront him. they keep this to themselves. and it becomes too much when they hear their sister suffered near-fatal injuries. this sends them to switch from the pre-law track to pre-med. they become more standoffish and nearly stop talking to their family for a couple months. they only confide in their older brother about what they knows because god knows that their sister won’t listen to her. that’s on years of being pitted against one another.
004. when asked about the switch, they claims that law didn’t hold their interest as much as they thought it would. going into medicine is the right choice for them. they reject the position within their father’s company. a position they know they would’ve gone straight to her after they pass the bar. gotta love nepotism.
they graduate from yale and jump straight into medical school at stanford. the appeal of that is that it’s 2,000+ miles away from chicago. they don’t talk to their family as much. ( death mention tw ) the last time was at their father’s funeral.
upon finishing med school, they’re accepted into multiple residency programs but ultimately chooses to complete their residency at university of southern california. since then, astrid has finished their residency and is the neurosurgery attending at the hospital.
BACKGROUND TLDR ; reserved and standoffish but for the most part , very career driven . has family issues and tries not to talk about it and move past it . a doctor™ . currently working as a neurosurgeon at usc . honestly could use some more long term friends in their life now that they’re not consumed with a super busy schedule . has lived in LA for the past ten years and moved into wisteria at the tail end of their residency
PERSONALITY .
to others, astrid can come off as reserved. they can be a little sharp and forthright. not exactly the welcoming type. however, they’re independent and determined. the type of person you can rely on to get things done. again, they can be selective with who they spend her time with. and that’s generally not on purpose. they can be a little dismissive of emotions and overly critical. once you get to know them and earn their trust, she is fiercely loyal to you. it’ll take a lot to scare them away.
