African Americans weren’t allowed to patent, we weren’t allowed to trademark. We’ve contributed so much to history, but there’s no proof
Fawn Weaver
Once a little boy went to school. One morning The teacher said: “Today we are going to make a picture.” “Good!” thought the little boy. He liked to make all kinds; Lions and tigers, Chickens and cows, Trains and boats; And he took out his box of crayons And began to draw.
But the teacher said, “Wait!” “It is not time to begin!” And she waited until everyone looked ready. “Now,” said the teacher, “We are going to make flowers.” “Good!” thought the little boy, He liked to make beautiful ones With his pink and orange and blue crayons. But the teacher said “Wait!” “And I will show you how.” And it was red, with a green stem. “There,” said the teacher, “Now you may begin.”
The little boy looked at his teacher’s flower Then he looked at his own flower. He liked his flower better than the teacher’s But he did not say this. He just turned his paper over, And made a flower like the teacher’s. It was red, with a green stem.
On another day The teacher said: “Today we are going to make something with clay.” “Good!” thought the little boy; He liked clay. He could make all kinds of things with clay: Snakes and snowmen, Elephants and mice, Cars and trucks And he began to pull and pinch His ball of clay.
But the teacher said, “Wait!” “It is not time to begin!” And she waited until everyone looked ready. “Now,” said the teacher, “We are going to make a dish.” “Good!” thought the little boy, He liked to make dishes. And he began to make some That were all shapes and sizes.
But the teacher said “Wait!” “And I will show you how.” And she showed everyone how to make One deep dish. “There,” said the teacher, “Now you may begin.”
The little boy looked at the teacher’s dish; Then he looked at his own. He liked his better than the teacher’s But he did not say this. He just rolled his clay into a big ball again And made a dish like the teacher’s. It was a deep dish.
And pretty soon The little boy learned to wait, And to watch And to make things just like the teacher. And pretty soon He didn’t make things of his own anymore.
Then it happened That the little boy and his family Moved to another house, In another city, And the little boy Had to go to another school.
The teacher said: “Today we are going to make a picture.” “Good!” thought the little boy. And he waited for the teacher To tell what to do. But the teacher didn’t say anything. She just walked around the room.
When she came to the little boy She asked, “Don’t you want to make a picture?” “Yes,” said the little boy. “What are we going to make?” “I don’t know until you make it,” said the teacher. “How shall I make it?” asked the little boy. “Why, anyway you like,” said the teacher. “And any color?” asked the little boy. “Any color,” said the teacher. And he began to make a red flower with a green stem.

Cosmodrome “Vostochny”
this morning NASA abandoned their mars rover Opportunity (aka Oppy) because it (she) got hit by a storm on Mars and it knocked her camera and wheels out and her last words to the team were “my battery is low and it is getting dark”. I know she’s a machine but I’m devastated. Oppy is the one who discovered water on Mars. RIP oppy ily space baby
So, about Yellows and Blues “flaws”(light and color)
When White was talking about the impurity of Yellow and Blue and started talking about absorbing colors etc. something in me remembered that I actually learned something like that in school in chemics, so let’s see if this knowledge still is somehow usable (and if I can translate it properly into english too):
So first of all, how is light and color related?
Light are waves which have different lengths and we as human beings are able to see some of these lengths. If a light would shine for example with a wavelength of 380-440nm directly in our eye, we would see the color purple, a wavelength of 560-580nm would appear to us as light green. You can even “mix” wavelengths and see color, for example 480-490nm and 500-560nm would appear green-blue, 380-750nm(these are all the lengths we are able to see and indentify as colors) would appear white. But that is only how we see colored light, and not things that have this color, because a table can’t just shine light at you. That is where reflection comes in.
There you got a color circle (sorry for the bad quality). A thing can only appear colored when light shines on it (let’s take white light because it is the easiest and most common). White light consists of every wavelength, therefore “has every color in it”. When for example a table appears white that means that white light shines on it and this table reflects all of this light/all wavelengths, so that this still white light can get into our eyes and we see the table as a white table.
Let’s say now that this table has an other molecule structure and doesn’t reflect all wavelengths, but absorbs a bit. Let’s say this table absorbs the wavelength 440-480nm(blue), but reflects all of the other lengths/colors. Now a light with a wavelenght of 380-440nm and 480-750nm(every color except blue) shines into our eyes, and these wavelengths/colors conveniently mix into the complementary color(the color opposite of blue : yellow) of the color the table has absorbed. So for the table to appear yellow it has to absorb blue from the white light and reflect every other color. For a chair to appear red it has to absorb dark green, for a gem to appear pink it has to absorb green(or yellow and blue), and for a diamond to appear white it has to absorb nothing and reflect everything.
Still with me? I hope so, because now I get into my original topic:
So what does all of this has to do with Steven Universe?
I wanna talk about the things White Diamond said about Yellow , Blue, Pink and herself.
“Poor Yellow. Her impurity has absorbed all the blue in her light. She’s so strong, but so weak when it comes to blue”
Something can only appear yellow when it absorbs blue. Blue Diamond is the only thing that can get under Yellow Diamonds skin (stones?), this is her weakness, if Yellow wouldn’t let Blue in, she would be perfect, just like White is.
“Oh and Blue. Her impurity has soaked up all of the warmth of her spectrum. She thinks she needs you Pink”
Blue is a cold color, most of the warm colors(yellow, orange, red) are on the opposite of blue, so these are the colors BD absorbs. and even though she got Yellow Diamond, she wants a warm color she can’t absorb, and that is the color pink(or magenta). When you look at the color circle you see that the color pink doesn’t have a wavelenght. That is because we can’t see the color pink when the wavelenght for this color shines into our eyes - we can only see it when something - let’s say a diamond - absorbs the color green(which is more or less a “mix” of yellow and blue). So she needs pink to feel warm again, she’s a color she literally can’t absorb(in the spectrum of light that we see), PD throws her off guard, makes her laugh etc.
“As for me, I’m certain I don’t need you. After all I’m every color of the light. But you’re a part of me, a part I always have to repress”
She’s technically right. She doesn’t need Pink to appear White (she just needs the wavelenghts 380-750nm, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, but not pink), she just has to reflect everything. She doesn’t let any color in, she doesn’t listen to any other opinion and becomes more or less apathetic. But then she becomes “off color”. She understands something, she let’s something in, she absorbs a color she shouldn’t and gets a pink hue (absorbs green(blue and yellow) and gets pink). She gets “imperfect” in her eyes, but that is the only way you can see the errors of your way, when you listen to somebody, when you let someone in.
(That’s why WD hated off colors. Even if nobody was as perfect as her, nobody reflected everything perfectly like her, at least everyone had a “pre-programmed” flaw (YD absorbs blue, BD absorbs warm colors etc.), but off colors were even more flawed, because they absorb colors they shouldn’t.)
(sorry for my crappy english)

Hello this is Nina, your local depressed college girl that’s decided to work on turning her life around and starting the new year with a more positive and happy attitude.
I know there a hundreds of similar lists and tips out there but I just thought I’d get all my favourites in one place and that way maybe motivate myself to actually follow them for once. I know my wording isn’t the best but I tried.
Here’s the few tips I’ve picked up so far and I hope they might help some of you if you are struggling a bit also:
Physical:
Space - your personal/work/study space plays a big role in making you feel productive and motivated. Doesn’t matter if its your dorm room, bedroom, office…you should make it your own as much as you can. Put a plant on your desk, get a nice picture for the wall, hang some fairy lights, get a fluffy blanket for your bed, repaint your walls in your favourite color if you can, just make it cozy and comfy and nice to look at and I guarantee you’ll start to feel better. Try to keep it clean and neat, I know it’s hard sometimes, but working in a clean space makes you ten times more productive.
Self care - start with physical things, drink those 8 glasses of water and keep a tab on it until you get used to it, use handcream everytime you wash your hands, put on moisturizer every morning and sunscreen when you go out, go for a walk around the park at least every other day, and for fucks sake go to sleep at a reasonable hour, you’ll be so grateful in the morning if you do. Show your body some appreciation.
Mental:
Take some ‘me’ time - we might we don’t have time for this, but it’s so important we make some time. First thing in the morning, during the day or before bed, just take a few minutes and relax. Put on your favourite song, burn a scented candle, drink a hot cup of tea, sit down and just breathe.
Be proud of yourself regardless - take that ‘me’ time and reflect on your day, pat yourself on the back for everything you did even if it was just getting out of bed. Life is a bitch sometimes and you should be just as proud of yourself for the little things. It’s okay to sometimes be lazy, to procrastinate, to not do anything. You aren’t a machine, you’ll burn out if all you do is work.
Appreciate the little things - on those lazy days it’s sometimes hard to not feel miserable about it. That’s when you should appreciate the little things in life. Get yourself that coffee you love so much and enjoy it, go to a roof, watch the sunset and appreciate the colors, take a photo of anything you find pretty and look back at them when you feel down…make yourself believe those moments made your whole day and suddenly it’ll feel like your life’s meaning isn’t just getting up and working/studying all the time, but enjoying everything you get to do and see in between too.
Other:
Find your interests - and stick to them!! We all like to give up on things if we aren’t immediately good at them. But no one was born an expert. And as cliché as it sounds practise does make perfect. Join a drawing class, a dance club, a writing class, get a course book on your target language, download editing softwear and play around with it, watch documentaries about your favourite subject. If you fall out of your hobby in the end it’s no big deal, but you’ll know you gave it a try and didn’t miss an opportunity to learn something new.
Journaling - this might not be for everybody, but I found it helps me clear my mind a lot to put my thoughts on paper and have everything organized in written form. I just love having all my things in one place where I can just look and see where I’m at, whether it’s plans for the day, my thoughts, my playlists, pretty pictures, anything really. It’s also a great way to be creative.
Start now - this is the most important one! Kick yourself in the ass and start taking care of yourself today! Get that glass of water right now, light a scented candle, read that book you’ve been putting off, watch that documentary about your favourite thing. Start enjoying your life right now, even if it’s only for a second, tommorow it’ll be two and three the day after and hopefully soon it’ll be a whole day.
dude seeing these Mega high quality images of the surface of mars that we now have has me fucked up. Like. Mars is a place. mars is a real actual place where one could hypothetically stand. It is a physical place in the universe. ITS JUST OUT THERE LOOKING LIKE UH IDK A REGULAR OLD DESERT WITH LOTS OF ROCKS BUT ITS A WHOLE OTHER PLANET?
LIKE THIS JUST LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE A PERSON’S BACKYARD. LIKE YEA A LITTLE DUSTY MAYBE THERE WAS A SANDSTORM BUT THAT’S COOL I’M JUST GONNA WALK DOWN TO THE STORE P S Y C H YOU’RE ON MARS BICH!
We have a new robot on Mars!
Say hi to InSight!
When I find myself particularly obsessed with someone’s words, that usually means i need to pay attention and self reflect.
Things Disaster Movies Always Get Wrong
We all love disaster movies! The cool special effects, the underdog stories, the underlying themes of hope. As cool as they are, they do tend to use misconceptions about natural disasters. This normally wouldn’t be an issue since Hollywood will always embellish but it’s important to know the true science behind these phenomena should you ever encounter them.
1) Pyroclastic flows will kill you almost instantly, you cannot survive a direct hit
Movies guilty of this: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Dante’s Peak
Pyroclastic flows exceed 100km/h and reach temperatures over 1,000°C. You definitely cannot outrun it in either car or on foot. The boiling hot toxic gas, ash, and lava in the flow will kill you instantly and pummel your smoking corpse into oblivion. Sorry, Chris Pratt.
2) Tsunamis do not crest, they are more like a sudden flood than a wave
Movies guilty of this: Literally any movie with a tsunami ever
Tsunamis are massive and sudden floods caused by the displacement of ocean water due to earthquakes or massive landslides. They’re not tidal waves and thus do not crest. It’s poetic, but inaccurate.
3) Hail is always spherical and doesn’t fall in big cinder blocks of ice
Movies guilty of this: The Day After Tomorrow
Hail can get quite large and can definitely be fatal, but they are exclusively spherical. Hail is formed by water droplets cycling through the updrafts of a thunderstorm and the rotational movements make the resulting hail a ball.
Looks more like a stage hand is throwing the remains of an ice swan than a hail storm
4) You cannot freeze instantaneously. Not even in space.
Movies guilty of this: The Day After Tomorrow, Geostorm, The Cloverfield Paradox, Sunshine
Space, and certain places on Earth, can get exceedingly cold. The coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth was −89.2 °C. That’s damn cold. But you still wouldn’t flash freeze into a peoplesicle within mere seconds. Intense cold can kill you quickly if you’re completely exposed but it would still take time before your body would be a thoroughly frozen chunk of meat. As for space, it can get quite cold, but it’s also an empty vacuum. There’s nothing around you but empty void, which means there’s also nothing to transfer your body heat away from you. Without convection, your body heat would be lost via radiation and that can take a long time.
5) Earthquakes over 10 on the Richter scale are physically impossible on Earth.
Movies guilty of this: 10.5
You would need a massive fault line to carry that sort of energy. Something on the scale of going through the earth’s core. Which does not exist . Even then, if such an earthquake would occur, the planet would literally explode.A 15 magnitude earthquake would release energy on the magnitude of 1x10^32 joules. That, coincidentally, is the same amount of energy contained in the gravitational binding of the Earth. Simply put, anything greater than 9.9 on the Richter scale is impossible and would cause the Earth to explode.
6) California will and can not sink into the Pacific like a big slab, and it can’t break away from the rest of the US.
Movies guilty of this: 2012, 10.5
Most movies cite the San Andreas fault as the reason for the cleavage, but even this isn’t enough. The San Andreas fault is a transform fault, meaning the North American plate and the Pacific Plate are slowly horizontally grinding past each other, not pushing away. As California is a part of the greater Pacific plate, it literally could not snap free from it to “sink into the sea”. Because if the entire tectonic plate underneath California where to flip over and sink then the entire ocean would drain away into the mantle.
7) You can’t sink in lava. You also can’t stand near it without being burned.
Movies guilty of this: Volcano, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Lava is molten rock, and is incredibly dense. In fact, it’s three times as dense as humans, who are mostly water. If you were to cannonball into a lava pit, you would dip in a bit before bouncing to the top and floating. You would also burn up and die super quickly. Because fresh lava can exceed 1,200°C! Even standing a couple feet away from a lava flow, you would feel the intense heat radiation. You would lose your eyebrows and probably the top layer of your skin if you stood too close. There’s a reason why volcanologists wear protective suits. Sam and Frodo would have been roasted.
