i need a frankenstein adaptation where frankenstein is played by an actual nineteen year old. all the adaptations imagine him as this grizzled thirty/forty-something man and he quite simply is not. that is a bedraggled wet cat of a university student with more money than sense, fuelled entirely by coffee and delusion

Just thinking about Guillermo del Torro's Frankenstein again and the fab poetic justice of the circle of abuse with Victor in the ' Give me your leg'sl scene when his abuse of his clnew creature reaches a crescendo.

The way it echos back to the scene with the cane and his own father, and how the generational trauma replicates itself.

How Victor can only be a terrible father because the creature is never just a person, he onlt values it as a reflection of himself and his own genius.

And how you can't help but cackle in the cinema as so soon after the pivotal 'give me your leg' scene Victor loses his own leg in his attempt to kill his creation.

Get rekt.

Victor Frankenstein is such a disgusting monster to me. What do you mean he makes a creature come to life, and then instead of treating his life's work with any respect, he chains him in a cold wet basement beating him when he doesn't do what he wants? What about kindness; nurturing the life HE brought into the world? The creature was raised in a place of violence and hate and still has more kindness in his soul than Victor, who was raised with such love by his mother.

ultimately the truth about frankenstein is that we are all grotesque amalgamations of the best and worst parts of everyone who came before us. and sometimes the people who are supposed to love us because of and in spite of this will not. and we can kill them with hammers for that. and i think that’s beautiful
