Synopsis: Jaidanâs unsure about riding in the first ever airship, but hey, he got a free ticket! As did most of the passengers. Itâs not until he finds some strange bean-like creatures and they claim to be âhumanâ, that he start to suspect something else is going on behind the scenes.
âHold still!â Pepa slaps Julietaâs shoulder, fortunately not with the hand holding a needle.
Out of the triplets, Julieta isnât the one to be squeamish about blood and pain, yet here she is. 20 years old and piercing her ears in solidarity with her sister and brother.
Happy birthday to me. Then again, after enough liquor, everything sounds like a good idea.
âYou gottaâŠhold still, Juli, you keep squirming away.â Pepa gestures at Bruno, whoâs tentatively patting his earring. He leaves off and comes over to grab Julietaâs shoulders.
âIs that still clean?â she tries.
Pepa looks at her, then the needle. âI already disinfected your skin and stuck the needle in the candle flame.â
âMaybe you can disinfect the needle, too?â
âYouâre stalling.â Still, Pepa follows her suggestion. âThis is silly, your magic would heal any problems.â
She winces, despite the truth. âBut itâs going to hurt!â
Pepa waves it away. âA few seconds of pain for a lifetime of earrings!â She puts the stopper in place behind Julietaâs ear. âNow hold stillââ
Julieta faints, slumping in Brunoâs grasp.
When she comes to, her ears sting. âOwââ food is shoved in her mouth and she automatically chews. The pain vanishes. âWhat happened?â
Pepa and Bruno sit on the floor next to her. Bruno looks suspiciously like heâs holding back laughter.
âYou,â Pepa starts, âour gifted healer, who deals with injuries and blood every day, fainted before I even pierced your ears.â
Grimacing, Julieta raises a hand to her ears, feeling small hoops that werenât there before. âYou did it while I was out?â She turns a betrayed look on the two.
Bruno shrugs. âYou held still like that and didnât have to deal with the pain. See? Itâs all over now.â
Itâs true, her magic took away the pain before it could really sink in. She looks at her two siblings; Pepaâs got matching hoops and Bruno has a single one. âWhatâs MamĂĄ going to say?â
Pepa passes her a bottle of liquor. âWho cares what she says! Itâs our birthday! Let loose a little.â
Julieta never lets loose. As Bruno falls out of favor with MamĂĄ, Julieta is being slid into his place and expected to be the responsible one. She touches her earrings one more time. âYou're right! Weâre young. Now give me that bottle.â
All three of them adjust their hairstyle the next day to show off the new additions. Pepa pulls her hair back in a braid and Julieta piles hers into a bun. Brunoâs hair is long enough to pull back into a ponytail, curls brushing the back of his neck. His earring flashes in the light, matching his sly grin.Â
âJust wait till MamĂĄ sees,â he hisses at Pepa.Â
She elbows him and sticks her nose in the air. âJust go to breakfast, Brunito.â
Julieta follows them, sliding quietly into her chair at the table.Â
MamĂĄ glances up, then back at her plate, then up again. âHmm,â she says.
Bruno and Julieta share a look.
âPepa, you have earrings.â
She nods, glaring at the small cloud that pops in over her head.
MamĂĄâs gaze slides down the table. âJulieta, you have earrings as well.â
âYes, MamĂĄ.â She rubs her spoon, uncomfortable with the attention.
âCare to explain?â
Pepa kicks her under the table, which Julieta takes as say something. âWe decided to pierce our ears for our birthday. I made sure everything was clean, though, and my food of course healed them right away.
âJulieta fainted!â Bruno could never keep his mouth shut when he should. He grunts, likely because Pepa stomped on his foot.
MamĂĄâs frown is growing deeper adding wrinkles across her face. She turns her attention to Bruno. âAnd you didnât stopâwait.â Squinting, she leans forward. âAre you wearing an earringâŠtoo?â
âWellâŠwe were drinking andâŠâ Brunoâs glee is rapidly draining.
âAll three of you pierced your ears, on your own, under the influence of liquor?â MamĂĄ stands, hands planted firmly on the table.
Bruno sinks into his seat and Julieta starts planning escape routes. âAhââ he throws one more frantic look at his siblings. âPepa made me do it?â
âBruno!â
Pepaâs thunder accentuates the yell. Bruno bolts with Pepa in pursuit. MamĂĄ watches them go and sighs, shaking her head. âJulieta, I expected better of you.â
âYes, MamĂĄ,â she whispers, ducking her head. She hates disappointing her. Still, the slight weight and sway of her new earrings lights a warm glow in her chest. Itâs a small change, but stillâitâs rebellion enough for her.
To the lovely people who reblogged, I have been struggling with Tumblr being inconsistent with tags searches and image links not working. Please if you are inclined, could reblog the current pinned post which should be fixed?
Saw @sketchnwhatevr newest Bruno and Dolores art, fell into a trance, and woke up to this:
****************************
"Again! Again!"Â
Bruno sighs but the smile belies any grievances he might have had with his overactive little niece.Â
"Dolores, honey. I promised your Tia to help with dinner."Â
Julieta chooses that moment to walk by the door. "No, it's okay, Brunito. I'll manage."Â
He turns just in time to see her disappear around the corner, shooting him a wink and a wide smirk. Oh, she is so gonna get that back one day!
"Yay!" Dolores shouts, turns the old radio back on and grabs his hands. "Again!"Â
Bruno looks down at his poor abused toes and flexes them a little. Can he really go again? They are starting to tingle a tiny bit.Â
But then he looks into Dolores expectant, big eyes and sees her little pout and⊠well, who is he kidding? Resistance had been a fruitless endeavor from the start.Â
"Okay!" he concedes and lifts her a tiny bit by her hands so he can place her feet on his feet. It amazes him how small hers are compared to his own. It once again reminds him that he really should cherish these moments while he still can. She is not gonna stay this small forever and she won't want to dance with her weird uncle forever either. He grins and starts to twirl her around and around. She squeals and laughs and her tiny feet stay firmly planted on his toes which don't even hurt anymore. "One more time!"Â
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
"Come on, Tio! One more time!"Â
"Again?" Bruno groans, but lets the bride grab his hand and pull him towards the dance floor. You never say no to the bride on her wedding day. Especially not this bride if you don't want your sister to fry you with some of her lightning right where you stand.Â
Dolores laughs and twirls him with gusto. She wobbles a little and Bruno can't help but smirk. She pouts at him. "Don't laugh at me! The last aguardente was of bad quality!"Â
"Yeah sure. That's what it is." He puts his arms around his tipsy niece's shoulders and tries to keep her steady. They move to the music for a while and Bruno thinks he might be able to steer her back to her husband soon when she suddenly steps on his toes.Â
He can't help the little yelp. It's more out of surprise than pain, to be honest. Thank God his mother had insisted on "real" shoes for today and he'd left the sandals at home.Â
Dolores jumps back a little. She looks stricken. "Oh! Lo siento! Everything okay?"Â
"Yeah yeah. Didn't really hurt. You need to eat more, you are light as a feather." He chuckles and smiles. It's a sappy smile. His last aguardente must have been of bad quality as well. "That reminds me of when you were little. You would always stand on my toes when we danced."Â
"I remember.", she says and there are tears in her eyes. Happy tears. "I loved that."Â
She doesn't say what she really means. 'I missed that when you were gone.' He is so thankful.Â
Maybe it's the alcohol - it probably is the alcohol - but he holds out his hand and pointedly looks at his own feet. "One last time?"Â
Dolores hesitates, but - probably also due to the alcohol - not for long. She toes off her shoes and carefully places her feet on his, all the time watching his face for any sign of discomfort.Â
But he wasn't lying. She is light as a feather and as he twirls her around and around his feet don't hurt one bit.Â
Xxxxxxxx
The next morning is another matter, but no one but his bruised toes and Julieta's healing food needs to know about that.

(I'm not sure if that's a thing elsewhere, but in Germany, when you try to excuse why you are drunk, you say "Der letzte war wohl schlecht" which basically means, "The last one must have been bad quality")
I decided to make a small masterpost because I felt a need from some ppl who were looking for some posts. So I gathered most of the # that will be, I hope, useful for you !
I would like to note on some of tags though a little clarification as Tumblr, despite the presence of these ones on the concerned posts, decided not to make them appear in the search :)))))) At least that's what I've noticed on my side, let me know if you encounter this type of problem too !
